Voxel Duke Nukem 3D Has Been Released and It’s Retro-Cool

Last month, we informed you about a Voxel 3D Mod for 3D Realm’s classic FPS, Duke Nukem 3D. And today, I’m happy to report that Voxel Duke Nukem 3D has been released, and you can download it. So, abandon anything you’re doing and get it.

Created by modder Cheello, Voxel Duke 3D offers one of the most faithful remastered experiences. The new 3D models retain the art style of the original sprites. They look so good that you might have trouble distinguishing them. The only way to fully admire them is by circle-strafing your opponents. When you do that, you won’t see rotating 2D sprites. Instead, you’ll enjoy the enemies in all their 3D voxel glory.

This is one of the best mods for Duke Nukem 3D. Ideally, I’d love to see Voxel 3D Mods for pretty much all the classic FPS games. For instance, Shadow Warrior and Blood would greatly benefit from such mods.

If you haven’t downloaded the Voxel Mods for Doom and Doom 2, I highly recommend doing so. They are among the best mods you’ll ever get for id Software’s classic shooters. The good news is that the Voxel Mod for Doom 2 is compatible with its Path Tracing mod. So, if you own a high-end RTX GPU, I highly recommend playing it. You can download the path-traced version here. Moreover, Voxel Mod is compatible with the Brutal Mod. So, if you are a fan of it, I suggest giving it a go.

Fans of DN3D should also check out Duke Nukem 3D: Savior of Babes. This is another must-have mod for the classic shooter. Then we have Duke Nukem 3D Legacy Edition. Duke Nukem 3D Legacy Edition is a gameplay mod that brings some balance changes, remixes a number of things, and makes the game harder.

Then we have Duke Nukem: Horror Castle. Duke Nukem: Horror Castle features 8 levels, 24 new enemies (including a new Boss), and 4 new enemies. Players can also expect shrinkable DN3D mini bosses, so that they can shrink them and stomp them. There are also new health and ammo items, as well as new effects.

You can go ahead and download the mod from this link.

Let’s now hope that someone will work on a Path Tracing Mod for DN3D. Now THAT would be the perfect way to replay it. Imagine Duke Nukem 3D with real-time Path Tracing and these Voxel 3D models. This is what I’d consider a proper modern-day remaster of this classic FPS.

Have fun!

  1. I managed to get Duke3d to path trace in remix using a very old build of Eduke32 as it used to use OpenGL 1.4. But it's very glitched in motion and the remix menu won't open so can't get any captures to mod the textures and fix the lighting.

Someone would need to code a OpenGL 2.0+ to DX9 wrapper to make remix work on newer versions of Eduke or do more reverse engineering work on the current 1.4 wrapper.. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/cf62790e574e0beaca75e54d25189b1b8a8d8acea7ceebd96379fc6eac414874.jpg

  2. DN3d is cool and all, but LOL, who cares about Duke at this point? Duke Nukem Forever is Garbage, and St. John is a lousy POS! The series has no future and has been long since dead, not even mods can fix what was ruined.
