Silent Hill 2 Remake Mirror Scene

This Silent Hill 2 mod removes the 30fps lock from the cutscenes

One of my biggest gripes with Silent Hill 2 Remake was the 30fps locked cutscenes. So, what did the modders do first? Well, they’ve managed to remove that 30fps lock so that all PC gamers can enjoy them at high framerates.

I’ve tested the mod and it works like a charm. At least in the first couple of cutscenes. I did not spot any framepacing or speed issues. So, again, I don’t know why Bloober Team locked them at 30fps on PC. From what I can see, they run fine at high framerates.

Do note that the mod will unlock the cutscenes, meaning that they will run with an unlocked framerate. So, if your GPU cannot handle the game with 60fps, you may also get choppy cutscenes.

In my opinion, Bloober Team should have offered “30fps”, “60fps” and “Unlocked” settings for the cut-scenes. It shouldn’t be that hard if modders were able to unlock them in less than a day. Right? RIGHT?

Anyway, you can go ahead and download the mod from this link. To install it, you’ll simply have to unpack the file to \SHProto\Binaries\Win64\ . And that’s it.

Make also sure to read our PC Performance Analysis for this title. You can also find a separate article that focuses on its Ray Tracing, NVIDIA DLSS 3, AMD FSR 3.0 and Intel XeSS.

I’ve also seen a first-person mod for the game. However, this appears to be in a very early stage right now. So, I’d suggest waiting for a more polished version. Still, if you want to play SH2 Remake in first-person, you can go ahead and download the mod from this link. At the end of the article, you can also find a video from it. That video should give you an idea of what you can expect from it.

  1. >like a charm
If you blinded. All animation recorded at 30fps, so it's still looking like 30fps lock with smooth camera transitions

    1. This. And on top of that the hair on the characters starts bugging out and dancing around in some cutscenes, too. This mod is still very much a WIP.

Having said that, unlike some games that attempt to transition between gameplay and cutscene SH2 has PS2-style hard fades/cuts so switching to 30 FPS is less jarring (also helps that the camera is largely static) than it would be in other games.

      1. dude, i know that it's realtime cutscenes, but AGAIN, animations recorded at 30fps, just install and check it yourself

        1. If you can't tell the difference between 30fps and non-30fps animations, you really need to check your eyes. Go to a doctor ASAP.

PS: You can immediately see, even in the very first scene when James touches his hands, that there is no 30fps cap for animations. But you do you.

          1. They're right, the FPS will be unlocked but you'll notice the characters are still moving at 30 fps while the scene is running at an unlocked fps, causing the whole thing to still look stuttery and unsmooth.
