FINAL FANTASY XVI feature-2

This Final Fantasy 16 Mod removes the 30fps lock from cut-scenes

Earlier this week, Square Enix released a PC demo for Final Fantasy 16. However, a lot of PC gamers were disappointed when they found out that its in-engine cut-scenes were locked at 30fps. Well, thanks to a new mod, PC gamers can now enjoy the cut-scenes with an unlocked framerate.

All you have to do is download the mod from this link. Once downloaded, you’ll have to unzip it in the game’s folder. And that will be enough.

I went ahead and tried it, and I can confirm that the mod works. With the mod, all the in-engine cut-scenes are unlocked and run smoothly. Well, that is if you have a high-end GPU.

What’s also interesting is what happens with the pre-rendered cut-scenes. These cut-scenes are at 30fps but they run in a 70-80fps container. What this means is that they no longer stutter. Without the mod, the cut-scenes had stutters and they were painful to watch. Well, not anymore.

And that’s not all. This mod adds an option to adjust gameplay FOV. By using it, you will be able to get a wider FOV. Moreover, the mod fixes some HUD scaling issues, and removes pillarboxing/letterboxing.

In short, this is a must-have mod for FF XVI. Right now, the mod only works with the demo version. However, I’m certain that its creator will add support to the final game once it comes out.

Here is hoping that SE will learn something from this modder. An in-game FOV will be a pleasant welcome. And yes, they should immediately remove the 30fps cap. It’s ridiculous we have to rely on mods for such things. Still, I’m glad we at least have one.

Final Fantasy 16 will hit the PC on September 17th.

Enjoy and stay tuned for more!

  1. At least I heard the HDR was good because oh boy… How much work was put into this really?

Not enough to ask for €50 and not damn near enough to ask for €80 for your games, Square.

  2. I played the demo a bit, dont want to spoil the game, skipped every cut scene.
And the game looks fun, the combat feels dynamic and fun, the story is finally mature, got tired of all the persona kiddie trash and "opty-do lets save the world with happiness" games.
Dark, Mature and you play as ADULT
The 30fps cut scenes were annoying AF especially when i had 4K/120 so sudden drops to 30fps is like slow motion

      1. Im not, I like select few games up until 12.
I HATE the job system games, automatic skip for me.
I played 6 on SNES was ok, i think it had no job system.

I liked OG 7, 9, 10 is the best gameplay-wise and 12 was last OK FF. FF10-2 had the job system, i tried the game but hated it.

FF13 i finished on PS3, was waiting for it, but i hated the combat system and i never played 13-2 and 13-3.
then 15 that gay-boy band game was automatic skip, i dont play LGBTLOL games.
Remake of 7 i own it on PC, i hate the combat system, its not turn based and not fully action.
Played the demo of 7 re part 2, combat system and open world kills it.
FF7 suposed to be linear and turn based

I tried FF3 3D remake, job system killed it for me, i hate it, i like established characters.

  3. Now if only it ran well on Steam Deck, 19-27fps currently. I’ll be banking on the community to help make this run on this potato as I can’t see a specific preset like Cyberpunk.

    1. Why would you torture yourself with sub low quality, its worse than just playing on PS5.
If you love handhelds, get something more powerful, or play on PS5

      1. Money is my limitation. I’m trying to make-do with what I have. If it’s that bad of an experience I’ll have to wait for a new steam deck to be released, as it will likely be fast enough to manage it and be a decent price also.

    2. Note that the current stable SteamOS 3.5 has a graphics driver which is more than a year old at this point, combined with a Linux kernel from the end of 2022 (not a typo).

Unfortunately, Valve moves about as fast as our Savior Gaben does during a marathon run ("Valve-Time" et al.)

Still, SteamOS 3.6 should be released by the time this game is launched fully, and will bring a year's worth of GPU driver improvements, plus finally enabling a Linux kernel feature that will help with RAM-heavy games such as this one.

SteamOS 3.7 will bring much more significant improvements, however that's a long ways off.

Nevertheless, keep looking forward to it, because there's a lot of life left within the Steam Deck…

    1. Probably because the cutscenes in real-time are too demanding. Ever looked at your GPU usage and FPS during those cutscenes? You need a top tier card if you want to reasonably go past 30 FPS, or to lower the settings.

  4. I find it very regrettable that this "article" does not even mentioned the author of the MOD even once or all the effort that was put into creating this in such a timely manner.
Lyall is an asset to the community and has created numerous MODS that helped the life of thousands of player ! It would be nice to see them get some recognition instead of a link directly to the download page, not even to the mod page so they can see the readme section. . .
