STALKER 2 fans, here is something really cool for you today. Modder ‘Greshnyy’ has just released a mod that aims to deliver the ultimate freeplay experience.
So, what does this mod do? Well, it basically removes the main quest and keeps every side quest intact. Players will now start with basic gear and a single goal: survive. There is no story to follow here. Players will start in the zone, and they will forge their own path.
Now, while there is no main quest, every side quest, every faction, and every A-Life system is still active. The Zone is alive and dynamic, but it no longer revolves around you. This also means that you can explore the entire Heart of Chornobyl at your own pace.
This basically means you can live the life you want. You can become a skilled artifact hunter, risking your life in dangerous areas for treasure. Or, you can join a faction, earn their trust, and fight for land and beliefs. You could also become a mutant hunter, tracking deadly creatures. Or, you can just explore the world on your own, visiting every dark place and forgotten ruin to see what you find.
All in all, this is a mod that a lot of STALKER fans will appreciate. So, be sure to download it from this link.
Speaking of STALKER 2, you may also want to try these mods for it. In theory, they should be compatible with this latest version. A really cool mod is this one, which adds a Parkour-like climbing system to the game. Then we have this mod that allows you to fast-travel anywhere on the map.
In December 2024, we shared a mod that let you loot all mutants in STALKER 2. This was a feature from the older STALKER games that was missing at launch. Luckily, GSC GameWorld added it later through an update. So now, you don’t need the mod anymore. Still, it shows how modders were able to bring back features that fans missed.
Another great mod you should try is this one that turns Achievements back on. Normally, the game blocks Achievements if you’re using mods. But with this mod, Achievements will work even when mods are active. So you can still unlock them while enjoying your favorite mods.
You can also download a mod that will remove the inventory carry/weight limit. I’m not a fan of this last mod, but hey, some of you may like it. There is also this mod that adds realistic death animations. Finally, we have a mod that can further improve the game’s graphics. Among other things, it can also enable GTAO. So, if you want to improve STALKER 2’s graphics, you should give it a go.
Finally, there is a mod that adds a crafting system to the game. By using it, you will be able to craft a lot of different items. This mod offers a fresh take on collecting and using items in the game. This is something that the devs should implement via a new update. At least in my opinion.
Have fun!

Noice!
Haven't played this since launch, did they fix the performance and bugs or not?
Would love to know that as well.
And while I'm here, let me ask you… Storywise, is this thing worth it?
Yours is a pov that I can trust.
The story is not bad, if only it wasn't very poorly told and made little sense at each step.
Nice, thank you for the reply!
Guess I’ll download it then.
Cheers!
I wouldn’t say it’s worth it for the story alone, it’s not terrible but it’s nothing special either
Either buy it on sale or just pirate it from a safe source like fitgirl
Thanks for the reply!
Don’t know what the word “buy” means, but I assume is something bad.
Performance is basically the same, you'll have to wait for the UE 5.5 upgrade possibly in Q1. Bugs… Not bad, but enemies spawning is still sh*tty, many times they spawn close to you mid shootout. So, I'd wait.
Still can't believe they didn't add a freeplay mode after you finish the main quest.
Free play, more like free larp. Never got the appeal of it, i mean i do side activities but only side activities is lame.
