Max Payne fans, here is something special for you today. Modder ‘Slasks Psykbunker’ has just released a demo of Max Payne Remixed. Max Payne Remixed is one of the best examples of RTX Remix Mods, adding Path Tracing to this classic title.
This RTX Remix Mod features detailed PBR textures and custom light sources. Additionally, it comes with remastered models and assets. As such, it’s miles better than the COD4 RTX Remix Mod we shared yesterday.
It’s also worth noting that this RTX Remix Mod supports NVIDIA’s DLSS. Thus, owners of an RTX GPU will be able to improve overall performance by enabling it.
As said, this is the best RTX Remix Mod we’ve seen to date. This is exactly what a remastered version of Max Payne should look like. So, go ahead and download the demo from this link. Below you can also find some screenshots from it. And, as you can see, even in this early development state, it looks incredible.
Earlier today, we also shared some screenshots from an RTX Remix Path Tracing Mod for Tomb Raider. And, to be honest, you should be expecting a lot more RTX Remix news these coming months. Modders will go into overdrive once NVIDIA releases RTX Remix in Open Beta. And we can’t wait to see our favorite PC classic games with full ray tracing/path tracing.
There is currently no ETA on when the final version of this mod will come out. As always, though, we’ll be sure to keep you posted.
Speaking of Path Tracing, you can download such mods for some other PC classics. Earlier this month, we shared one for Doom 2. There are also Ray Tracing/Path Tracing Mods for Quake, Half-Life and Serious Sam. These mods are NOT based on the RTX Remix. In short, they are more polished than every RTX Remix we’ve shared so far. Therefore, we highly recommend downloading them as they look stunning.
Have fun!

Looks like a game from 2005 when everyone was overusing normal maps.
Yup like total Sh*t. But atleast it gets Johnys pants to grow – anything Not impressive, seems to be his thing ..LOL!
Its pretty telling when only wccftech is hyping it.
When RTX Remix open Beta releases in a week, it will be possible to add proper PBR material support.
All these Remix attempts so far, aside from official releases, were done with a very limited cut down release of the tool that’s mainly meant for compatibility testing, it’s not made to create the full remasters.
It looks ugly
are we going to see lots of path traced old games soon?with this new rtx remix version?do u guys have any hope?rtx remix has been dissapointing until now
i really think this new version is going to be revolutionary
RTX Remix has not been released publicly, that’s only happening in a week.
Mods like this one were done with a limited cut down version of the tool used to troubleshoot compatibility.
horrible everything is shiny
Every surface shines like metal, it needs a lot of PBL tweaking to get that right but sure Max Payne is a perfect candidate for an RTX Remix treatment
I think I’m going to need to wear sunglasses to play with this mod.
Meanwhile back at mainstream gamer headquarters:

make sure they’re the yellow tinted type you wear while driving in the night time to reduce eye stress from oncoming traffic.
Well i think all you people who put this mod down are a bunch of morons it uses diffent textures and i think the way the light is spread over the surfaces look great so you think the original game simulates how light bounce and rays travel over surfaces are reflect many times over each surface well you should of gone to speck savers free eye tests in the uk.
That free visit to Speck Savers would cost me around $1,000 for a round trip ticket. Can you recommend a good Optometrist here in ‘Murica?
:p
People are harsh when it comes to raytracing overhauls since it tends to look bad and takes away character from the original.
That doesn’t mean people don’t love mods though, plenty of mods improve games, but graphical mods rarely do.
Do MAX PAYNE 3 tho.
Looks really bad. Raytracing is gay.
Delete your mod and never touch a game again.
RT is not gay….it can look amazing if people know what they doin!
This mod does look bad but your comment is gay. Raytracing is great when done correctly. I bet you’re on a sh**ty PC and you’re coping hard.
This is just bad. All materials are specular without any consideration for anything.
The guy who made this does not know how PBR works or the RTX tools are limited at this moment.
The tools are limited, the full RTX Remix toolkit is releasing in open Beta in exactly one week.
Until now there was only a limited runtime that just let you test some basic capability of the tool, which is what was used here.
i hope that works on RTX 2070 Super
I finally got this working after watching some random youtube video that linked to a modified rlmfc.dll file that fixed all the corupt JPEG errors I was getting. Issue now is the pathtracing is working but none of the updated textures are showing and I see an error in the bottom corner from Remix saying “Status: layer data missing”. Anyone know how to fix this?
Sweet summer child… you came to the wrong place if you’re asking for help on DSOGaming. We only come with a side order of sarcasm and low rent vowel and consonant swaps to make us sound edgy.
They should’ve kept the textures intact
I do believe all the ideas youve presented for your post They are really convincing and will certainly work Nonetheless the posts are too short for novices May just you please lengthen them a little from subsequent time Thanks for the post
looks like something Chronicles of Riddick.
If I walked into a subway or train station that had walls like that – definitely wouldnt want to touch them. Looks like sprayed greasy film on the walls.
As you can see a real station has no shine….

pfft i can do that in my room right now, watch as i put oil on every wall and turn off the lights.
Hello my loved one I want to say that this post is amazing great written and include almost all significant infos I would like to look extra posts like this
If anything, the awesome atmosphere is completely gone.
Now all you can see are flat textures and parts that should never get too bright, all shining and reflecting like a mirror.
John, pls.
How to ruin a masterpiece…
With Rockstar suing Remedy and jeopardizing their relation … this might become the best shot at getting a max payne remake/remaster/remix
