ReeveMods has released a new graphics overhaul mod for Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, called ImmersiveVC. This mod rebuilds the sky, the lighting, the shadows, the reflections, the water and the weather, and runs the whole game on a modern DX11 renderer instead of the DX8 it shipped with in 2002.
ImmersiveVC adds a procedural sky, volumetric clouds, and sun rays to the game. It also adds cascaded shadow maps and headlight shadow maps for night scenes. The mod also adds per-pixel lights from street lamps, vehicles, and police bars. It features world-anchored rain, reflective wet roads, and refractive lens drops. Finally, it adds live water surfaces for both the sea and swimming pools.
From the looks of it, this is a must-have mod for GTA Vice City. The only downside is that the early version is locked behind a Patreon wall. So, you’ll have to pay to play it. My guess is that the full version will be released for free once it’s complete.
At the end of the article, you can find the latest trailer for ImmersiveVC. This trailer will give you a pretty good idea of its visual enhancements. So, make sure to watch it.
Speaking of GTA Vice City, I also recommend trying the NextGen Edition Project.
Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Nextgen Edition is a free remaster that Take-Two tried to shut down. This project brought all the missions, the whole map, and content from the original game to the RAGE Engine. And, ironically, this felt better in every way than the sloppy official remaster that Take-Two released in 2023.
GTA Vice City Nextgen Edition has an improved version of the city – and weapons – from the Definitive Edition. All the cars from the Xbox version of the original game will be present here. Additionally, all the models of all characters and peds will be from the Xbox version. So, the game should look better than the original PC version. And that’s without using any mods for it.
Those interested can download version 1.3 from here. There is also an HD Texture Pack you can download for it.
Now, if you own a high-end PC system, you can try this RTX Remix Path Tracing Mod. This mod is based on the GTA 4 RTX Remix Mod, and it requires Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Nextgen Edition. It takes a bit to configure it properly, but it can greatly improve the game’s graphics. As with most RTX Remix Mods, though, it requires a high-end GPU. Still, this is a unique experience that most Vice City fans will appreciate. And it’s free.
Another cool mod for Grand Theft Auto: Vice City NextGen Edition is this first-person mod. As its name suggests, it lets you experience Vice City via a first-person perspective. And then we have this mod, which aims to improve the handling of all cars and bikes.
Finally, we have the Grand Theft Auto: Vice City New Legacy Mod. This mod expands the original game with 25 brand-new story missions. Built using Sanny Builder and CLEO, this project delivers fresh gameplay while staying true to the classic Vice City experience.
Enjoy and stay tuned for more!
