Quake Champions – Open beta phase begins on May 12th

Bethesda has announced that Quake Champions will receive an open beta on May 12th. According to the publisher, this will be a large scale tech test, during which the game will be available to everyone, and will be kept online 24/7 until May 21st.

Bethesda will also lift the NDA for Quake Champions’ beta phase on May 12th. This basically means that players will be able to capture and share videos and screenshots.

The tech test will feature all the modes that are currently available in the game’s closed beta phase (Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch and Duel), as well as the new 4v4 Sacrifice mode.

  1. Very disappointed by the closed beta

The pace is very slow compared to Quake 3 and even dare I say Unreal Tournament. Movement is too floaty and not precise, rocket launcher has very small splash damage and seems under-powered.

Having the classes that have various buffs at the start of the match versus a level playing field is also a turn off.

And if you do get just the F2P version you won’t be able to do duel mode either…

      1. They have another feature now which is joining on-going matches. So now you can wait 5 minutes to get into the 2 remaining minutes of a match, then get booted back to menu and wait another 5 minutes.

They looked at server browser and match-making and picked the worst from both. It’s really quite hard to believe some of the decisions they’re making and now this.

    1. It’s the variable armour, health & speed that they want all the Champions to have, it’s f*cking up their balancing, & the gameplay in general.

That, & the ridiculous amount of LG spawns per-map.

Also, isn’t it still under NDA?

      1. NDA only matters if your Bethesda account or ingame nicknames are the same you use to post here 🙂

  2. The game is hardly better than when they started the beta. Most of the big complaints have not been addressed and I doubt they will be fixed this weekend.

    This is a mistake.

      1. Ha! I’ll gladly try out the open beta while being fully prepared for disappointment. Just like the multiplayer beta for Doom (2016) but without a campaign mode to save the day.

  3. As a Quake Veteran, I absolutely enjoyed playing QC.
Those Closed Betas were awesome, yes there are some issues that need to be fixed, but overall this will be day one purchase for me.
