Warner Bros revealed today the first gameplay footage of Middle-earth: Shadow of War. This gameplay walkthrough introduces viewers to the next generation of the innovative Nemesis System with the addition of Nemesis Fortresses, where players must utilise different strategies to conquer dynamic strongholds and forge their personalised Orc army.
In this video, Talion and Celebrimbor, who return as the Bright Lord, must lead a fortress assault on the mountain valley of Seregost and take it from one of Sauron’s Overlords. To succeed, they will use the power of the New Ring to recruit Followers during enemy encounters—a new mechanic allowing gamers to establish entirely new stories of loyalty, betrayal and revenge.
Middle-earth: Shadow of War is currently planned for an August 25th release.
Enjoy!

It’s up to you, but please don’t.
there will be no shortage of digital supply, theres no reason to preorder
but i need muh preorder digital items and stuff :c
You think you do, but you really don’t.
yea you really dont. most preorder items get replaced an hour or two into the game by way better equipment
Omg yes, this is true for everygame now’a days.
also see it this way. If you wait and dont preorder and the game comes out like crap you get to laugh at the ones who got burnt. If you preorder and get burnt, we laugh at you. Now if reviews come out and the game runs well and plays well you can always pick it up from steam in a matter of seconds. Its not going anywhere
deep discounts is enough reason for a lot of us.
It’s a WB game.
Will that be a good enough reason to not pre-order?
Nu e nevoie.
I dont see why you are so excited. When the first game was revealed everyone thought this will replace assasin creed who went to crap, this game doesnt look all that amazing to me, because now nearly every game has this kind of capturing camps and fortresses and using various units. I prefer modern setting and sci fi over this, so maybe that has to do with it. To me the cool moments in the video looked utterly scripted, so excuse me if i choose to ignore this game till its out and we know for a fact that what we saw is in the game and it was not a scipted demo or the release of this game wont turn into a dishonored 2/mandkind divided….or worse arkham knight
i remember the first time when i saw the part where you stood with the orks versus the other orks in the field near the end of the game, and i thought, man, i wish they expanded on that, and they did!
It’s funny that The Hobbit and Lord of The Ring is filled with emotional drama between the characters that nearly jeopardized their own survival while this one ranger single-handedly united whole regions of various factions and kept Sauron at bay for decades.
Two names: fan fiction.
this! this game ruins lotr ffs… shame on you if you like the game…
this is not canon
It may not be canon or fan fiction but the implication is still there. This game shows that with steel determination and avoiding drama one man(+ one elf ghost) can achieve much more than what a fellowship of bickering people could.
They actually even had the audacity to make a New Ring.
Like, seriously, have they even seen the opening scenes of the Jackson Trilogy, nevermind read the books? It specifically states what Sauron had to do, in order to create his Ring, but nope! This guy just made one too, so, yeah.
Yeah, nice job there, Warner Tards. No wonder you put Zack the Moron in charge of the DCEU, after Man of Steel.
Like, the gameplay looks solid, sure, & its an interesting concept, but f*ck me, from a lore standpoint, this is absurd.
I don’t see any graphic improvements .. and is that For Honor tactic?
i think its bc its in alpha honestly. I hope the finished product looks better than this. also it was running on an xbox so its already going to look like crap
May have even been the Scorpio.
You know better than that mate, finished products look like alphas, unfortunately.
Oh it’ll look better in this case, I believe.
It just won’t look much better than this, unfortunately.
it’s just a sequel, no improvements.
Minor improvements are a guarantee, as even pixel count automatically goes up every year, regardless of hardware. In regards to the rest, yeah, it’s not like we’re going to see Battlefield 4 vs. Battlefield 1 differences, here.
I wonder if it will require 16gb of vram like how shadow of mordor required a ton of vram at the time for ultra textures.
shadow of mordor was great and ran well on pc…
still this is WB i dont trust them until release
Except for a broken V-sync which never got fixed.
True but using V-sync from you GPU control panel is easy and fixes everything.
plz. be epic.
Wait, so the game enables you to assemble an army of orcs against Sauron? Preposterous, Tolkien must be rolling in his grave!
Wow that was incredible truly impressive stuff. I loved the first game but this looks to be on another level.
Looks good, I enjoyed first game and this one can only be better as first one is really basic, but still I would like something more serious and bigger. Like modern version of Lord of the Rings Online, with the same consistency and seriousness with the world and story, not some Orc army building nonsense, singleplayer, open world, rpg, just Witcher 3 LOTR edition. It can even be developed in 15 parts across 5 years, I don’t care, just do it 😛 Why Middle-earth still didn’t get something like that is just beyond me.
This game looks great, I wonder if the Steam version will support DX12 or if only the windows store version supports it..
That game was the closest I’ve felt to being so involved in the world. Well this and mainly the The Two Towers. So many rental nights with those games… That being said this new game doesn’t look all that bad, seems less empty compared to the first game, which was why I never got around to playing it.
the new $hit isn’t very.. lore friendly with Tolkien’s vision
it’s mostly more edgy crap to sell to teenagers
to me what defined lord of the rings was the following:
-two towers (ps2 exclusive)
-return of the king (PC available aswell as ps2)
-War of the ring (a WC3 like RTS with more elements from the books like Huorons and Beorn, how minas morgul came to be, a lot of elements before the movie)
-the battle for middle earth (wasn’t as good as WotR but still delivered that AAA fun)
-lord of the rings the third age (lord of the rings and final fantasy combat, pretty neat, gave us a few extra scenes before the extended edition came out)
and then… warner bros bought the rights and brought an endless torrents of $hite upon the lord of the rings name
from that crappy MMO to that Arkham/ass-creed ripoff lord of the rings was in decline
the only somewhat decent game they published was war in the north
which was really fun to play with friends but the story felt… uncannon…
Two Towers and Return of the King were both multiplatform, I played them on my Gamecube. And that was around the point when I stopped playing any LotR games, so I never really catched up with the changes that were happening. The online mmo one looks interesting though. True it’s always best to remain true to the original lore but everywhere I look I only ever hear about how Shadow of Mordor is one of the best games in the series.
I don’t think it’s fair to call it a game that’s targeted towards teenagers when clearly a lot of adults love it too, both who are fans of the books and newcomers. The upcoming game certaintly has more depth it seems than the one before it. Just hoping all that scripted events go away in the final product. Star Wars has so many non-canon plotlines which many prefer over the movies in some ways. Making something non-canon doesn’t mean it becomes childish, but I get the feeling there’s plenty of stories maybe from the books which have yet to be covered or expanded on.
The first game was ok, also nice port/pc version. but the design was horrible, nemesis system is good and all but if you have to do the exact same mission 100 times in different locations then fight the end game boss with QTE it’s not worth it. Also some indoor areas please, first game have none, 2 empty maps (one flat, the other one was the first one with more foliage) and that was all.
