Dead Space is a game that a lot of gamers loved. The original series was powered by the Visceral Engine but have you ever wondered what an updated version in Unreal Engine 4 would look like? Well, time to find out. 3D Environment Artist, Douglas Davis, has recreated Dead Space’s ‘Main Atrium’ level from Chapter 4 in Unreal Engine 4.
As Douglas claimed:
“All models, textures and effects were created by myself using Unreal Engine 4, Maya, Photoshop, and Crazybump with the exception of a few default Unreal assets and the in-game posters, which are from the original game.”
Douglas has also provided some comparison screenshots between the original Dead Space and his recreation in order to showcase the changes. Unreal Engine 4 screenshots are on the left whereas the original screenshots are on the right.

While he is a die-hard PC gamer, his gaming roots can be found on consoles. John loved – and still does – the 16-bit consoles, and considers SNES to be one of the best consoles. Still, the PC platform won him over consoles. That was mainly due to 3DFX and its iconic dedicated 3D accelerator graphics card, Voodoo 2. just give me a good sequel please
The game never needed a sequel to begin with. The ending of the 1st one was perfect and should have been left alone, but of course EA had to do their thing.
Most games don’t “need” a sequel but Dead Space 2 was one of the best sequels in history, for sure.
Nah, it was an EA cash grab.
Frostbyte remaster?
“Too costly, f*ck that.”
It depends. I would buy it but I’d need to see it first. Frostbite doesn’t really do graphics well, period, especially not lighting – which is the absolute most important part of Dead Space other than sound.
The remade environments look a bit too pristine for my liking. They lack the “stained” feel from the original.
Not seeing a marked improvement in those remade shots, except the geometry in certain places.
OMG yes.
Dead Space isn’t much of a dark game to begin with, and they make it brighter? :v
Do not like.
