The open beta phase of Forza Motorsport 6: APEX has just been begun, and below you can find some 4K screenshots from this new DX12-only racer. Turn 10 did an incredible work with the PC version of Forza Motorsport 6: APEX. This new racing game looks incredible on the PC, and performs amazingly well.

It actually runs pretty great too. I’m using an 8320 with a R9 390 8gb and 16gb of ram, and it runs at 60 fps at ultra settings perfectly. DX12 is really showing through here. Potential indeed.

On a PC with Xeon 1230v3, GTX770, 16GB of RAM, and with all settings set to Ultra but AA cut down to 2x, anisotropic filtering 2x, shadows on low and resolution 1280×800 it still looks good but is stuttering.
Nonetheless, the game is addictive even if you belong to potato race.
GTX 770 doesn’t have real support of DirectX 12. This old GPU have only DX12 feature level 11.0. Its not real DirectX 12. For example GeForce 9×0 have DirectX 12 feature level 12.1 If you want play new games think about new GPU. Today is premiere of new Nvidia Pascall. First Nvidia GPU designed for DirectX 12

As for the game, is there a possibility to run it in full screen? Every resolution settings makes the game run in some kind of a window fit to the screen but never real FS.

I get the occasional stutter too, so I don’t think it’s a video card issue. I’m pretty sure it’s something in the code. Hopefully they’ll patch it out as this is a Beta, and I’m sure most of the “beta” aspect is working on performance.
So first race was locked at 30, this is the cold open race that starts the game the first time you play.
After that went into options, removed the stupid force res. Changed ingame res to my monitors native at 1440p, and changed default render setting from medium to high.
Then went did a race, 74 fps! on average never dropping below 70 with tons of cars on the screen. The game looks really good, and it worked with my gsync monitor without a hitch. Also as bonus the impulse triggers of my xbox1 pad worked, allowing to feel the vibrations from braking and slides. Really weird feeling at first but I like it, grants a more tactile feel with the triggers themselves getting differing levels of vibration depending on the action.
Overall I am surpsied to say for me they finally nailed a launch, the game looks and plays great, and just feels better than many of the other racers I’ve played including project cars.

I can run it at max settings and 4k/60fps with a single 980 Ti and i7-4790k. This is what DX12 is all about when done right. Amazing job. The future of Forza on PC looks very bright indeed.

I use Dxtory for all Win Store games to measure fps. Also if you have nvidia you could try shadowplay and turn on fps overlay. The shadowplay one only works w. some win store game, it worked in ki and GoW UE but not in QB, didn’t try it on Forza yet. But dxtory works on all Win store games

For some that’s the best they got, or maybe their card doesn’t really have the oomph to push more. I play at 1440p and love it, but there’s nothing wrong with someone playing at 1080|60 its still better than 99% of the current console gen games.
I had 1080p years ago as well, and I had no trouble acknowledging then that it was an outdated standard and that there was much better out there.

That what i do. As GTX 970 G1 GAMING i prefer to play a game at 4K DSR 30 fps(unless it is a shooter) than 1080p 60 fps. I played mad max and metal gear 5 at 4K DSR at 30+ fps and they looked so much better than 1080p 60 fps. But on fps and third person shooters like Just cause 3 Doom, e.t.c i prefer 1080p 60 fps becaus in shooters 60 fps is very important. Stilll amazing that 980 ti can run it 4k 60 fps but i dont care abour racers.
I thought it was pretty much universally accepted among PC games that 60fps was not just something required for first person shooters, but racing games as well due to their fast paced gameplay? From my experience, i’d much rather play a racing or FPS game @ 1200p/60 (my display is 1920×1200 Dell Ultrasharp IPS) downsampled from 1600p or 1800p than from 2400p if i only get 30fps.
It wouldn’t run with 8 x MSAA at 60 in 4k max settings though as that would kill a 980ti. It will run 8xMSAA in 1440p though. I noticed a few frame hiccups so dropping it to 4xmsaa i get a smooth game on all but one track in 1440p max settings anyhow.
The rio track has caused my PC to reset as well and on my machine it has odd stuttering at times.

I have Xbox One , Ps4 and PC though. Nothing is really all that expensive these days unless you go completely over the top.. I bought an old gaming PC off a mate , gutted it and installed a 980ti , twin SSD’s a 3TB main drive and got a 1440p screen and it runs most games at over 100 fps with no trouble at all. Even though the processor is actually from 2010/2011. I7 930 with 12GB Ram .
Thinking of upgrading the processor this year sometime or next. No real hurry.I am also looking forward to playing Uncharted 4 next week. It looks amazing even if it is going to be stuck at 30 fps which is a bummer.

Sometimes i think i may have gone too far, i have 5 x 360’s , 2 x PS3’s , a PS4, and 2 x XboxOne’s as well as 2 desktops and two laptops.

Yes since i have GTX 970 G1 GAMINGi play most games on 1440p DSR instead native monitor resolution 1080p. Games look so much better at 1440p DSR than 1080p and even better at 4k DSR
Yeah i have been very happy with 4k DSR on my 1440p screen too.
Haven’t jumped to a 4k native screen as yet due to that 60hz limitation of current tech. So many games are great to play in 1440p at 144hz so i don’t want to lose that to game at 4k.
I don’t think Forza currently supports DSR though.
i HAVE 21,5” 1080P 60 HZ IPS monitor. It is the LG22MP55 and yes 4k DSR looks great. Since i dont have space in my desk for a 4k monitor due to how big they are 4K DSR is the best solution since it gives 4k image without the need to buy a 4k monitor and then have to worry about how and where to put the pc and it.
It doesn’t actually display a 4k image though it just downsamples from 4k to your screen but it has the benefit of the higher resolution internally so things such as anti aliasing and crawlies can be reduced significantly. Things like blades of grass can be more defined using DSR.
Yes but the issue with 4k monitor is that they are too big to fit on my dek since they are 27”+ Unless they make small 4k monitors i will keep this and use 4k DSR. Yes i knwo it dosent make the graphics so good like real 4k but it comes close to it. And if i i buy a 4k tv for the living room then there is another issue since i also dont have enough space to fit the pc in the living room near the tv too. So my only option will be for 21,5′ 4k monitors to happen sonner or later but possibly sooner…

Playing in 2k and downscaling to 1080p on a 1080p monitor looks worse than 1080p, and the next step up is 4k which is very expensive performance-wise and not much better than MSAA
i’ve used 5k DSR on my 1440p screen and it looks amazing.

EVGA Precision supports DX12 FPS overlay now, just not Windows store games.

DigitalFoundry uses video analysing software to do it. PrecisionX has an OSD now compatible with DX12
i am having issues on the 5th section in the race just after the Lambo and Ferrari . The next sessioon with the supercars is really choppy. The rest of the game runs perfectly on my 980ti in 1440p max settings but this track just inconsistently has a really choppy framerate even in a tunnel when not much is going on. Maybe just a beta glitch?
The game is a fair amount of fun though, i was so disappointed with Driveclub on PS4 being only 30 fps and not having a good driving model. Forza nails the driving model and apart from this one track it runs perfectly from what i have seen so far.
Such a spectacularly colourful game too. Probably the best looking racer i have ever seen overall.

I don’t know, would like to see a face off or something similar by digi found or someone. Drive club also runs at 30fps which sucks. Not being a console owner I can’t give an honest comparison so you may be right, but I will say I like the look of this more than Project Cars, and more importantly I like the feel of it better
Driveeclub run on 900p on ps4 while Forza on pc is 1080p-4k(depending on your pc) so it willl look much better than Driveculb to the higher resolution of pc.
driveclub is native 1080p but its running at 30 fps which is how they pushed such visuals on ps4

Wow, amazing screens :), thanks for these. I need to say track details are much better in forza compared to the project cars, not so empty and flat. BTW- that PC version supports impuls triggers? I have played forza 5 on xbox one for brief time, and these impuls triggers were awesome (and whole thumbstick sensitivity), I could almost forget that I was using gamepad.
Gears of War UE is actually really good after they patched it.
Arkham Knight was unplayable at launch, Quantum break was playable especially after the first patch
im sorry but i can run arkham knight on 2560×1440 all settings maxed even gameworks stuff on i get 55-90 fps but im locking it at 60 because of the fps fluctuation

How does this game compare to racing sims on PC like Assetto Corsa, iRacing in terms of physics?
Fixed lighting, no progress of time, no dynamic next gen clouds, baked in shadows, basic (last gen Forza, PS2 Gran Turismo) fixed rain effects, static weather either turned on or off before circuit loads……………….. but its possible to get to 4k so who cares.

Gear of War UE is actually a good port after they patched it, currently averaging 100 fps at 1440p. It came out rough but the devs took the time and made major improvements. Now Quantum Break that’s just a tragedy.
Everything else is gorgeous except for the grass. They’re still using that horrible way of putting grass on the ground. Just random very long lines of polygons.
Looks great, but I still think Driveclub looks better. I’m sure things like resolution, framerate, AA, etc are better, but in terms of shaders/models/lighting, I think Driveclub has the edge.
I Play the game..but start only in windowed full screen…. no in fullscreen….impossible use a dsr. ;(
