      1. no fck your dark souls you got 4 of these games already if not 5. How many time will the same game be goty?

        1. If AC and cod were good, they wouldn’t be as much criticized. And sure it’s recycled, but it still has a ton of new content.

        2. keep your panties on. I don’t know about the whole community but personally i don’t like it mainly for the difficulty, just the addictive combat.

        3. It’s not that Creed and COD sucks. COD has some of the most refined shooting mechanics out there. Creed has some hits and misses. Syndicate was fun. I enjoyed the gameplay dynamic of the two protagonists. It’s just that those games don’t really innovate upon each other. Dark Souls, with every iteration they add some new innovations. You won’t really understand much by just watching vids, you need to play and spend time with them. DkS3 for example, already plays so different mechanically to DkS1 and DkS2. You simply can’t play the game the same way you’d go in with DkS1 but you’d have to play it to understand. P.S you can fck off, if you so dumb to see my comment was meant to be comedic, then you are just pathetic.

      2. Nothing against the game or the people who love it but I really fail to see what is so appealing from those games. The world is fantastic, yes, and the combat is cool (too much reliance on rolls though) but beyond that I don’t see much, and that’s without mentioning that I can’t really see if there is a difference between the games besides the number of enemies and speed you have in 3. This, on the other hand, has that and more.

        1. “(too much reliance on rolls though”

Oh not even that, most of the l33t players i have seen are baiting enemies away from the pack and make them stick behind a object and hit them through the wall or the object they get stuck, note that the ai tries to shoot you through walls. The game does not have a good story, this one does, the game does not have varied ways to play, this one does, no your weapons and armor are not a different way to play, the upgrade system is a horrible grindfest. Nothing has changed since the first game. Also unpolished and unoptimized with horrible hit detection.

          1. Whew! I thought I was the only one! But yeah, I noticed that some of the tougher bosses can be off-ed through exploits. Personally, I didn’t find that game to be fun (nor rewarding) at all. I certainly would love to play a spinoff game/read a book based on that world because its mythology is quite interesting but the main games… not really.

          2. I mean in terms of what dark souls does well, there really isn’t much competition in terms of action rpgs. People love it for numerous different reasons, the world, combat, level design, atmosphere, different weapons, music, etc. And some people don’t even care for the pve and just play it for the pvp.

          3. Fair enough, and that’s cool. But is it really deserving of so much praise? I mean, I hear a lot of people complaining that games like Call of Duty, Assassins Creed and other annualized franchises are basically re-skins of previous games. I know that Dark Souls is not annualized but aside from the plot and graphics there’s really no difference in gameplay between each other. “If it’s not broken, don’t fix it”. Yes, but why do we keep asking for other franchises to change between outings but not Dark Souls? Hell, even people who love these games recon that it’s more of the same but why is it good for this one but not in others! As I said, it’s ok people like this one but my point is: is it really a pinnacle in gaming as it is made out to be? Maybe I’m just a weirdo but, to be honest, I don’t think it is.

          4. Dark Souls 1 is my favorite game of all time, but I think certain games like thief 2, deus ex, or silent hill 2 are better. Although I really don’t think there are many games out there that can compete with it in terms of level design. And in weapon diversity there is no match.

I mean when people ask for different gameplay with a souls game, I really don’t know what you can expect, it’s an action rpg, there’s only so much you can do. The fact that it spawned a certain number of clones is a testament to how people like the ideas behind it. And the number of new weapons, bosses, enemies, and levels take a lot of work and is a lot more than what you get in ac or cod. Not to mention that one could argue that each version has gotten significantly worse, and with souls although one can argue the same, it’s not that much worse than the original.

Granted you shouldn’t expect a sequel any time soon, FromSoftware’s five year contract with bandai namco is up, and the newly hired president and auteur of the series Miyazaki has stated he’ll want to do new things.

IDK dark souls 3 is like a 7/10, but I could be overly harsh on it since I rushed through the pve to get to the pvp.

          5. Yeah, I mean you can’t deny Souls’ virtues. For gameplay I certainly would think of making it less obscure for new players. Certainly not handholding but not leaving you in the dark either. I, for one, am not against a challenging game (I love Alien Isolation, although it’s a very different genre) but this leaves you in the dark for everything! But I’m digressing. My point, I think, is this game is definitely not the be all, end all of videogames many sites make it look like. And I’m certainly disappointed at PC gaming sites that don’t call it out for its shoddy KB+M support (although this one seems to be the best in that sense, how hard is it to include the proper prompts?) and giving it a pass just because “it plays better with a controller”. No, it doesn’t if you always played with KB+M, and no, no game for PC should force you to play with X controling scheme. But I’m digressing again, sorry. I think my point was clear enough LOL.

          6. Lol, bruh but we’re talking about video games, the most important thing in the world! Anyway, yeah I can see how most pc gamer’s aren’t a fan of the series.

        2. Yeah I know it’s not everyone’s cup of tea. I honestly just randomly picked it up (first game) one day and ever since I’ve been hooked. Is it perfect? Of course not but to me it’s still one of the best gaming series of recent memory.

        3. Okay this might be a long post but this is why I PERSONALLY feel the series is amazing:

          Gameplay:

It has one of the best swordplay systems out there. It’s not overly complex, not at all but everything feels really well designed. The amount of weapons, daggers, swords, greatswords, axes, bows etc. I really enjoy the vast amount of weapons not to mention the added options such as spells, miracles and pyromancies. Although, I must say, the Souls series always had an issue of really making a full mage build worthwhile. It always felt as an “enhancer” to the swordplay if you know what I mean. And then there’s of course the enemy variety, the EPIC boss fights {DkS2 not included 😉 }, the fact that the game has a great challenge and doesn’t hold your hand. There aren’t much puzzles and the game overall is basically a simple dungeon crawler but done in a complex way. Knowing when to attack, when to be defensive, offensive, timing, the pacing etc. Knowing if you should take the risk to parry, choosing whether or not to trek onward and risk losing your souls etc. There’s a great sense of tension and the nice atmosphere as well. Also, if you decide to be a noob and get an 80+ stability shield, you can do that sure but rolling is a skill learnt and a pretty useful one at that.

          Story:
Most people and honestly I don’t blame them for this, have this idea that the Souls series has no story. This couldn’t be far from the truth. The story is deeply compelling and quite complex with excellently written characters. What I really love about the story is how it’s all so tragic. I mean, look at Artorias The Abyss Walker. He went to fight the abyss and failed, becoming corrupted while protecting his loyal companion (wolf), Sif. There’s this beauty in the fact that when you fight Sif, he’s not really an “enemy”. All he does is he protects his fallen master’s grave. But as the chosen undead, to you there’s no “good” or “bad”. You just basically have to kill almost everyone in order to link the fire and let the process continue. And that’s just artorias. There’s so many lore and story behind this game and once you take the time to understand it all, you’ll realize it’s really well written. It’s just highly abstract and most games follow the “in your face” narrative which obviously isn’t a bad thing but the way I see it human beings are just damn lazy. Take Metal Gear Solid for example, many people who play the game STILL don’t know the difference between Big Boss, Solid Snake, Naked Snake and Liquid Snake. It’s so sad and pathetic. That’s a convoluted game but still has a narrative but people are so lazy to use their brains to attempt and understand what’s going on. It’s as if we live in this world where everyone’s a dumb gamer who just wants a “SAVE THE WORLD” rpg or “STOP THEM FROM USING NUKES” shooter.

That’s basically why love the series but there’s honestly so much more. The level design, artstyle etc. The nuances in the areas for example in DkS3, farron keep is this disgusting, depressing looking place and all of a sudden, you see this beautiful white tree in the middle of the swamps. Then there’s also the OSTs as well. That’s not to say the series has zero problems though but I feel that’s reserved for another post.

          1. Well, the problem I have is not that I have to pay attention to understand the story, my problem is that, in my opinion, hiding it deliberately is not really a good choice, especially in a game. Perhaps this is me looking for a more organized way of showing it (was a Codex so hard to implement?) but with a story as dense (and frankly fascinating) as people who invested in unraveling it has shown, I think it’s a waste. As for the role of the player in it, a little motivation would have been nice (perhaps you wanting rekindle the fire in order to save your family or something like that) because, otherwise, it’s the shallowest “chosen-one” story for a game. But again, it’s just my opinion and I respect people who like it this way. On the other respects, I agree, it has some of the greatest design and art choices there is.

    1. The lip sync seems to be no better, I give you that, but the faces? They are a huge improvement.

      1. No idea, but I doubt it. One guy said that it was because the lip sync for english wasn’t done yet, just in french. It could simply be that the final animation is actually not finished though.

  1. At least on the tech side looks not that promising, we’ll see about the story, but i’m not that confident with that either.

  2. Getting some serious Matrix vibes from the music in the second half of the trailer, really cool!

The graphics have also come together nicely, the game looks consistent and well rounded now.

Which leaves the issues with the XP system (one playstyle being rewarded over another in a game about free choices) and the question whether these new augs/weapons aren’t so powerful the game becomes trivial. Ammo for taking down four people silently at the same time (TESLA) better be tightly limited, along with energy for cloak etc.

      1. You don’t simplify a sphere shape that takes up that much screenspace as an octagon. That’s either an aesthetic choice (unlikely because it looks terrible) or simply a mistake. I’m guessing the latter, with the explanation being that some dev messed up the LOD distance on those sperical objects. Could also be a bug where everything was set up right but there’s an error in the code, leading to close things using a far away LOD.

    1. By the way, that quote… “Faced with two terrible choices, I chose the lesser evil”. It sounds funny in this context. They chose terrible graphics over terrible framerate :).

    2. The lighting in the original shot made no sense (sun at the horizon, light from above) and everything was blurred and hidden behind the reflective glass. They seem to have given up on the reflection entirely which is a downgrade, but everything else looks on par or better than before, it’s just sharp now when it was hidden by blur before.

        1. Learn a thing or two about computer graphics.

          Aesthetic appeal != technical fidelity

The old pics look more appealing but the only technical downgrade are the reflection and those spheres (which are obviously an oversight, not intenionally f*cking octagons). The DOF focussing on the background and only blurring the character in the foreground is an aesthetic change, not a technical one. Before, basically everything was blurred and using a lot of bloom as well. There are several parts that were technically inferior before, a lot of aliasing going on but not obvious at first glance because of how blurred it all is. They gained some and they lost some. The scene is clearly not polished even now, that’s the only takeaway really.

    1. Right! It sucked hard because it punished you for playing in harder, more clever ways.
The overpowered tranquilizer, on the other hand, gave you the most XP.

  3. i want this game to be good and better than HR…. But i feel loke they will cater to casuals and SJW even more than they did in the last Deus EX game….Sad as HR was the last good to decent fps/rpg…

  4. >So, what did happen to David Sarif officially?

What do you think? It’s really self-explanatory (below).

As for the “why he didn’t ask”, maybe he did, but it’s just a plot device to introduce new augs.

    1. Well, I figured this was the ending chosen for the sequel (with a few edits maybe), so you have a possible explanation why Sarif isn’t in the second game.

      >why would Sarif

You know why Adam is special. Actually it makes sense to pack him with so many high-tech gadgets, cuz why not?

  5. Looks kinda meh.

All this talks about “I’m gonna uncover the truth and stop them”, well, spoiler alert: Bob Page & Co will win anyway.

    1. That character model looked terrible. The first game he was more normal in proportion (arms vs torso). This one looks like a human with t-rex arms.

  6. Hope they finish Adam Jensen’s story with this or another game. I prefer new characters or custom character otherwise the series will write itself into a hole like every other game which followed 1 character forever.

  7. I love how some of the aug powers look like they actuate and flow like move you might see in an action game (though some appear to still be canned animations). The plot themes at play, the visuals holding it together, the range of choice (which I hope feels organic in practice) — it all looks great.

  8. That “E3” pic was in no way representative of the graphics quality at any point, that’s the bullest bullshot I’ve ever seen.

The comparison below looks like two shots from compressed videos, they likely used the same exact footage but compressed it differently the second time.
