Dark Souls III – New Reshade Mod Recreates a “1980s VHS” Atmosphere

YouTube’s ‘MrKingx11’ has shared with us a new video, showing a retro Reshade mod for Dark Souls III in action. This Reshade recreates the atmosphere of a 1980’s VHS, and looks pretty cool. To be honest, I find it really hard to actually play the game this way. Nevertheless, it looks really cool, so be sure to check out the video after the jump!

  1. Ha! I was yelling out “fix the tracking!!”. Brings back memories of severly worn VHS or Beta tapes that had been passed around 10 too many times… My dad owned a few Video Stores from the early 80’s to the mid 90’s and i worked there from 11 years old. Like i said, it brings back memories….

  2. that’s not exactly 1980’s VHS… the vignetting is not even a thing with VHS. It looks more akin to an older, 1970’s colour TV look, and feel rather than 80’s VHS.

  3. Kudos for the accomplishment I guess, but gonna file this under no thanks. I don’t even like the film grain filter effect some games use. Whats the point of running a game at 1440p only to destroy the fidelity

  4. guessing creator didnt live through the VHS age and is a new age kiddo? tapes didnt always have tracking lines unless you where to stupid to hit the button to fix as the movie started…. sure it would rarely pop up if you dint have a bargain bin player but cmon, the whole time? mod creator is a 16 year old kid trying to seem cool or a idiot who worked a below min wage job and had to deal with such 1st world problems. vhs is still a viable format for watching film, kino or classic anime that hasn’t received a proper dvd and or bluray release.
