Epic Games has released some new screenshots from the Chill DM Map that was recently added in Unreal Tournament. Unreal Tournament is powered by Unreal Engine 4, is available for free and can be downloaded via its official website. Enjoy!

Yet games choose to rather use outdated engines or engines that don’t scale well with cores
Maybe because they started developing them when UE4 wasn’t a choice?
Also before CryEngine/Unreal 3 were licensable, as well?
Damn, must be some giant-ass MMO project they’re working on……
So why do you think they chose UE3 instead of UE4? For trolling?
I’m confused. who chose Unreal 3 over Unreal 4?
UT “2015” up there is Unreal 4, if that’s what you mean.
I mean other devs. For example: Life is Strange, Might and Magic: Heroes VII, Batman: Arkham Knight, Killing Floor 2, Rising Storm 2: Vietnam. All those games use UE3 instead of UE4, despite of the fact that they are new.
Rocksteady’s Arkham series uses a modified version of Unreal 3, I’m not sure how much they’ve tweaked it by now since it seems to have aged well over the years (visually comparing Asylum to City, to Knight), but moving all that over to Unreal 4 just for one, single game?
Not worth it. Rocksteady’s next project on the other hand, almost definitely going to be Unreal 4 if they don’t go for an in-house Engine. Not to mention, Arkham Knight was deep into development as of long before Unreal 4.0 even premiere’d. Moving it to Unreal 4 & then keeping up with Unreal 4’s constant updates would have unnecessarily delayed Arkham Knight even further.
Tripwire (Red Orchestra/Rising Storm/Killing Floor) I don’t know, really. They’ve never focused on shiny visuals with RO/RS, so maybe they just don’t care about the new tech, whereas Killing Floor is by the same devs, so…. “why learn to use two completely different Engines”? Idk. Maybe Production started before Unreal 4, or they just didn’t want to move to a brand-new potentially troublesome Engine, I really don’t know.
Dotnot (Life is Strange) also did Remember Me on Unreal 3, maybe they felt it was easier to make a move with their next Game, rather than with Life.
I admit, I really don’t know, I’m just guessing that production likely started on most of these before Unreal 4 came out, so Studios didn’t feel like switching, considering none of these are going to be the next Crysis (visually) anyway. Assuming I’m right though, not wanting to slow down production proper by having people spend a considerable amount of time getting used to a new Engine is arguably likely a big factor here, IMO.
But yeah, grain of salt etc.
It’s beautiful, especially the first screenshot looks like an artwork.
Despite of that, I don’t dig this type of gameplay, it seems too weightless, plastic and exaggerated to me.
I’m not gonna lie, I already installed this game three times, only to admire its graphics.
looking good. hell, how i miss the days of great arena shooters. mapping for the old unreal and unreal tournament games was as great as playing.
this game cant come fast enough
Superb.
Very noice. I admit, even without SVOGI, it looks a little bit better than UT3.
Oi! Only a “little bit”? Come on! 😛
Looks awesome. They’ve come a long way since the glorious UT3 days.
i actually tried setting it to max settings, and it actually doesn’t look like this, still good tho.
My guess is that it’s a hi-rez picture like 4k shrunk down.
ye i thought the same
What’s with the lighting? These pics are similar to how it looked before. Then they showed it again and the direct light was intensely yellow / orange. Did they change it back or are these actually old screenshots?
This level would be far better suited for a Rune sequel.
Love Rune.
HAHAHHAHHAHHA!! My 970 G1 GAMING and 21,5” 1080P IPS LED 60 HZ will make the game look 100 times better than that crap console!!!! Cant wait for release! Day one buy!
Clearly they were showing it on the PC version because it never looked this bad.
Omg this blurry thing ? wtf… I feel bad for console owners getting crap performances in many games.
The new map is great fun. A nice addition to the game.
Come back when you’re not posting lossy pictures of a compressed youtube video.
You could have posted direct links to the lossless screenshots Digital Foundry has on their article but nah you got to mislead people to circlejerk
