Tom Clancy’s The Division Beta Has Already Been Hacked

It appears that the beta build for The Division has already been hacked. This information surfaced yesterday and we got more details about it via Reddit. Basically, the game’s PC beta does not have any anti-cheat system at all, and almost everything can be hacked on a client’s side.

As Reddit’s member ‘division_throwaway’ wrote:

“However, without stating anything specific on how to ‘cheat’ in this beta. It’s scarily simple.

Everything from ammo count, level XP, Dark Zone currency, player speed are all CLIENT trusted, and take time to sync via server time.

For example. Infinite ammo is possible by removing the instruction that’s responsible for adding/subtracting ammo into your player structure.

Speedhacking is possible by modifying the delta time used in the game’s update.”

In order to back up his claims, the user has provided a video showing speedhacking/desyncing via Clientside.

The Division BETA Hacking POC - Speedhacking/Desyncing via Clientside

Earlier yesterday, the following video surfaced, showing a hacker killing someone without being visible. Division_throwaway had this to say about this situation.

“And the speedhacking is possible for said ‘invisible people’. If a player that is speedhacking runs ahead of the position stated on the server, because the client trusts the position of the players, you can very well quickly take out an enemy without them seeing you and reclaim the reward/loot.”

Do note that this may have been done on purpose, so that hackers do not get the chance to experiment with the game’s anti-cheat system. We’re simply raising awareness. Don’t assume that the final version will not feature any anti-cheat system.

All in all, here is hoping that Ubisoft and Massive Entertainment will be able to protect the game from hackers!

  1. “Basically, the game’s PC version does not have any anti-cheat system at all(…)”

Erm… what? Wtf, why? Just because it’s a beta?
Although both beta & alpha became buzzwords nowadays.

    1. This may have been done on purpose, so that hackers do not get the chance to experiment with the game’s anti-cheat system. We’re simply raising awareness. Don’t assume that the final version will not feature any anti-cheat system.

      1. Good point, although I didn’t assumed that it wasn’t going to be an anti cheat in the final version, I just found weird.

        1. It’s also possible they are monitoring everything being done and want to counter it when the game goes Gold. Right now hacking matters very little in terms of gameplay.

    2. I’ve heard that too, however I saw people saying that perhaps it is more due to a “glitchy” nature (because it’s a beta) than an exploit (which I don’t know if it’s true or not).

  2. “this may have been done on purpose, so that hackers do not get the chance to experiment with the game’s anti-cheat system”

    >Let’s beta-test our game
    >Without the anti-cheat measures though, those are already perfect

LOL You’re gonna get half of Ubisoft’s staff layed off if you do their job of coming up with implausible damage control for them.

  3. The invisible players are getting god mode at the same time. The good news is that its only a bug and prettymuch random for what i read today on the division forums.
The downgraded was real, but the game looks very good. What bothered me is that we are not far away from a console level. I mean not everyone is using a 4k monitor. I do, and the game looks amazingat 4k maxed out.
What i mean is… i bet my balls that we can run the e3 2013 demo without problem at 1080p on not THAT high end hard.
Watch this video that i posted. Almost maxed out. 4k video. Remember to select 2160p on YouTube

Really good ai on the second video. The enemies take cover and use in a good way nades and some powers like that guy deploying the automated torret and repairing it when was low on hp.
I love the fact that after some heavy fire you can suppress enemies.

        1. Yeah ikr
That is why the only way to play was with a controller. And believe it or not i got used to it. Mainly cuz its a very slow game. I mean its not cs go. But 30 fps is never good. Lol
But the most important here is to have the option to choose. That is pc gaming.
          What a want… 30 fps 4k or 60 1440p.
Can’t wait for next gen video cards

  4. They’ve already announced the final game will have an anti-cheat (through anti-file modification, which is the issue with every single PC mp shooter since it makes hacking so easy). The problem at this point is so many groups have popped up making a fortune selling paid PC fps hacks and subs to hacks that it’s a huge business. So there’s a ton of incentive for them to come up with hacks to sell. So regardless of whatever system is implemented I’m sure it will be hacked within days if not hours even with the anti-cheat.

It’s so bad I usually play fps on the new consoles to avoid most of the hacks and at least play on an even field, even if it means a step down in controls and gfx over a good gaming PC and keyboard.

    1. the game was meant for consoles pc gamers had to get a petition for it to come to pc.also this is a 6 month old beta and there is no anti cheat in it like there will be on live.

  5. You can cheat this game… It seriously needs a anti cheat system. I got into the game with cheat engine… WTF it’s a online game… Not good they better fix that quick or nobody is gonna wanna play it on PC.

And the point is if I can get into the game with a simple program like cheat engine then anybody can… And that’s f’ked up.

        1. “Even consoles are hacked now” Huh? Consoles have always been hackable, people have been cheating on consoles since the very first ones. Cheaters were rampant on last gen on PS3, Xbox 360, and Wii. Nothings changed.

          1. well yeah but it’s more then ever before… just like when nes had game genie… to gameshark being able to be used online with dreamcast…

And I know about trainers on 360/ps3… only now it’s a lot more easy on xbox1/ps4.

          2. no you cant run programs to hack ona console like pc.the only thing i can see is xiim for mouse and keyboard cheating.you cant hook any thing up to run programs on the consoles like a pc.

        2. nope consoles dont get hacked.its only pc that does.consoles cant run the hacking programs .you cant hook up any device to a console and run the hacking programs.its only the pc thats hacked.

you may have herd about the invisible guy on console which is just a bugged mob not a person hacking.

you cant hack or cheat on console like pc.

          1. show me proof other wise i odnt belive you.proof that the xbox one online game has been hacked.i dont care what you just say.back it up.

          2. wow you really are new if you don’t know consoles can use trainer style apps. And don’t worry I will back it up XD

          3. wow look between the time from my previous reply till now… only took me seconds to find it… www .xpgamesaves. com/page/homepage.html/_/latest-mods/battlefield-4-xbox-360-cheat-trainer-2-r875

  6. yep.its why im getting it for xbox one .no hacking or cheating and exclusive timed dlc.the hackers and cheaters will kill this game on pc.while it will compete with destiny on console.

  7. I don’t give a f*** about hacks in this game because I have no intentions of playing it online. I hope Ubi realizes there are people who will not be buying this if they cannot play it single player.

    1. It’s all online, so you’ll struggle playing it offline. It basically got a single player mode mode tho, which you can opt in to play coop. Dark Zone is just one aspect of the game.

      1. Is the single player mode one in which you have to go to the Dark Zone and complete missions with other players, against other players? If so, I have trouble calling that a “single player” campaign, and thus would likely have no interest.

And yes, when I said offline, I meant single player as opposed to multiplayer with others online. I realize you have to be online to play. I don’t live in a cabin with no internet lol.

        1. No, you won’t be forced into the dark zone. It’s just another optional side activity for players like me. The dark zone will be roaming with PvP. It’s the smallest area in the game. You should try it out tho, just to see what it is about.

  8. At the same time, the masses will go out and buy it at launch. Ubisoft games always drop in price quick. Although, I know a few people who’ll be buying this, so I’ll play it for free. I salute the guys who buy games at launch, get rid, then I pick them up cheap from Computer Exchange.

  9. It’s not possible to hack currency, it’s server side, if you change it all it does is alter the display value, if you try to buy items they will not go to your inventory.
    XP is probably the same.

  10. I’m chalking it up to the beta. I can’t imagine a release this big and so dependent upon online play would forgo anti-cheat measures.

  11. Came here thinking someone had hacked into their servers and stole sensitive information or something serious, people should really stop using the work HACK for anything related to cheating in a video game.

  12. This is why PC can’t have nice things. And why i hate this ALWAYS ONLINE garbage the industry is pushing towards. Because any and every online game on the PC is overwhelmed with HACKING. But this is your future, you fools keep buying the cods and battlefield arena garbage and companies think that’s all WE WANT. SO in turn, we will forever be plagued by this none sense. A good example is evolved. I once saw a guy solo’d me as a human vs me as a monster and knew where i was every step of the way and killed me without his team present with basically 3 shots. I’m so glad that game has offline mode, because that’s all i play and that’s good enough for me.

Because any game that has a hint of PVP, there is bound to be hackers and for all you idiots talking about Anti-cheating, that’s a joke. Speed, wall and aim hacking are amateur stuff, real hackers tweak Bin files, and that’s usually undetectable. The problem with cheating in games is that the consequence doesn’t mean a damn thing. You see, if they’d get tougher like say a criminal record or potentially being banned form ever touching a computer again, like they do to those fools that hack into the pentagon, then just maybe we’ll see that garbage stop. but as it is right now its a joke and it will get worse and worse as this always online garbage persists.
