Nexon America today revealed details for Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex – First Assault Online (First Assault). In this tactical team-based shooter, players take on the role of an augmented soldier fighting terrorists on the streets of a future cyberpunk world.
The online first-person shooter (FPS) game is being developed by Neople and will be available to PC gamers in 2016. Fans can sign up now for the chance to be part of the upcoming closed beta tests beginning Thursday, Oct. 1, 2015.
First Assault is based on Shirow Masamune’s acclaimed manga the Ghost in the Shell, one of the core originators of the Cyberpunk genre. First Assault references the anime source material while advancing the dark near-future universe and bringing it to a frenetic but tactical first-person shooter game environment.
“As an elite, augmented soldier, players will advance and master their character with upgrades and unlocks as they succeed in combat. Each character has exclusive attributes that reflect features of the original franchise, such as Motoko Kusanagi’s ‘Therm-optic Camouflage’ cloaking technology or Saito’s ability to enhance his vision and highlight enemy soldiers.”
Players will carry out battle strategies and formations as they choose from among eight initial characters. Adding a unique layer to the experience, each of these can be customized with specialized body augmentations, weapon attachments and enhanced abilities.
First Assault also features “SkillSync,” which allows players to leverage shared cyber-abilities with nearby teammates in combat modes to augment and increase their skills. By using SkillSync in smart and tactical ways, teammates can work together in devastating combinations in battle.
Nexon will host beta events to stress test the servers before the next phase of development. The initial challenge runs from Oct. 1-4, with the second challenge following shortly after.
Enjoy!

Could be good, I mean i LOVE Ghost in the Shell, but putting a GitS skin on COD might not be a good idea.
True the universe is awesome, they could make a really good game if they tried. But instead we are given anime knock-off’s. This might be decent.
Gameplay wise its more like the Blacklight series rather than CoD.
“Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex – First Assault Online (First Assault)”
wtf is this ? lol.
nvm nexon is the publisher
After looking up about Nexon, I finally understood your comment.
The two ghost in the shell movies are utterly brilliant. But honestly I don’t like stand alone complex, but this looks kinda good. Except the voice actress, doesn’t suit motoko.
But what I would really love is a game set in the ghost in shell universe which doesn’t use characters from the anime, preferably an rpg. Ghost in the shell is the reason why watch dogs first e3 reveal got me excited (then disappointed) and it is the reason Cyberpunk 2077 is my most anticipated game ever since 2012.
Honestly, this looks horrible, Ghost in The Shell movies are true cyberpunk masterpieces. No one asked for this f2p. Actually an RPG would be more appropriate but it already exist, Deus Ex Mankind Divided and Human Revolution XD btw I wished Human Revolution’s story was as deep and interesting as Ghost in the Shell’s.

Subjectivity: refers to how someone’s judgment is shaped by personal opinions and feelings instead of outside influences. Subjectivity is partially responsible for why one person loves an abstract painting while another person hates it..
🙂
Instead of being smug you could have written a proper reply.
GitS has helped shape Sci-Fi as it is today. I’m bummed out too that it’s almost entirely absent in gaming, and that the first new game in ten years is going to be a Nexon-published free2play shooter.
Being smug wasn’t my intention, I’m sorry if it came that way.
But then again, saying that is almost entirely absent in gaming is a big understatement.
Well, quoting a dictionary definition of a word that, I’m sure, most of us here know did come across as smug to me. But if I just misunderstood it’s no biggie.
Anyways, there really isn’t much going on in terms of GitS games. It’s been almost exactly a decade since the last one came out. And the ones that did come out are all Playstation-only – that doesn’t exactly give them a wide reach. “Almost entirely absent” might be a bit too drastic, but it died an early death.
Imo The GitS universe would make a pretty good RPG setting. But it’s probably too much of a risk investment for any big publisher to take on.
Oh I’ve thought that you were saying the absence thing about the Sci-Fi genre.
Well, it’s a niche inside another niche. Making a GitS game will inevitably lean towards people familiar with the series and the Japanese culture add the Sci-Fi to the mix and you can kind of see why there isn’t much of that. Influential or not is been already taken for granted over the years so I think it’s kinda hard to break through the “mainstream” with a big release.
That’s how he usually is. You’ll get used to him lol
Oh the irony.
I know right? You are unbearable.
You know what mate, how about we make a gentleman deal?
We don’t like each other so from now on, we don’t mention, reply or even acknowledge each other presence ok?
Cheers, be happy.
A gentleman is a patient wolf, I’m just waiting for you to f’ up again.
lol subjectively. taste is not the only factor for giving an opinion, an opinion is also shaped by the person’s experience and knowledge as well. i am sure there are those that disagree but whether they like it or not, Objectively HR is not as deep as Ghost in the Shell IP. does that make HR bad? no. but it didn’t have as much time to develop or advance it’s story or it’s characters.
let’s not forget, HR had Mass Effect 3 style ending before it was a thing…Subjectively i am fine with that type of ending though cause i am all about the journey not the ending…objectively, it’s not right. when professionals want to review an story, they always consider the beginning, the middle and the ending. all 3 are important.
Disagree. Deus Ex and GitS share a similar setting but have different approaches and/or subjects, that’s why I think that saying that GitS is objectively deep than Deus Ex is somewhat “off”.
Yeah, the ending was unsatisfying, but if we stick to games, Deus Ex is objectively better than GitS. ;P
it’s Nexon. i only heard negative things about them. it baffles me that companies like Square Enix don’t try something big with ips like Ghost in the Shell or Berserk specially since there is a good reason for using both IPs. the first IP inspired Matrix so it can become a big hit in west too and the second one is a goddamn Medieval Fantasy it’s probably the most popular theme among gamers what more reason do they want…
True, and the berserk games are solid.
What did you watch, the 2015 cash-in Prequel thing, or the Arise Movies re-cut into the Alternative Architecture Series? Because yeah, those were ridiculously bad. the Movies themselves were mediocre, but the TV Edits really just tanked them completely.
Watch the original 1994 Ghost in the Shell Movie (rather than the 2.0 “Remaster” which is just censoring some sh*t & replacing some animations with CGI, because….. ), Shell 2: Innocence, & the Standalone Complex TV Show, Seasons 1, 2, & the Special.
Big fan so I’ll be in the beta test for sure.
ugh video is down 🙁
