There are a lot of players that currently hate Ubisoft. I mean, who can blame PC gamers for Assassin’s Creed: Unity and Watch_Dogs? And let’s not forget the latest controversy surrounding The Division’s visuals. However, it appears that this whole criticism has actually improved things. Or at least that’s what we get as Ubisoft’s CEO told TheGuardian that its approach to showing off pre-release games has changed.
As Yves Guillemot told TheGuardian:
“With E3 2015 we said, OK, let’s make sure the games are playable, that they’re running on the target machines. When we show something, we ask the team, make sure it’s playable, make sure gamers can immediately see exactly what it is. That’s what we learned from the Watch Dogs experience – if it can’t be played on the target machine, it can be a risk.”
Another really interesting thing is that Ubisoft gives completely freedom to its studios when it comes to developing low cost games. As Guillemot claimed, Ubisoft’s studios that develop low cost games – games that cost around 200K-300K euros – can skip the pitching process.
Yves Guillemot added:
“[Managing director] Pauline Jacquey said ‘we’re going to do a game that’s so cheap we don’t need your approval – we have something that’s already good enough’. When I saw it for the first time it was 60% done. I like that approach. When a project costs more than $5m we need to look at it because it can go wrong. But when it’s €200,000 to €300,000, they can make all the decisions they need to to make it happen.”

Still, the PC platform won him over consoles. That was mainly due to 3DFX and its iconic dedicated 3D accelerator graphics card, Voodoo 2. Finally a good news
You cannot write ubisoft and good in the same sentence where PC is concerned.
you made my day!
yes you can, ubisoft is awesome, ubisoft is awesome, ubisoft is awesome, ubisoft is awesome
I don’t see the term “PC” in your post. See, it’s impossible.
ubisoft is awesome on PC,
I hate Ubisoft 1% less now.
April fools is long gone Ubisoft, quit it.
Seriously, this could be great if other publishers make the same move.
ubisoft isnt lying
Bugger off.
nope, f*ck you then ahahahahaha, ubisoft is better than everyone else except DICE, ubisoft is good, heil ubisoft
lol ok
How does this guy afford such a system with an attitude of a 12 year old?
Maybe the parents spoiled him? Or maybe he’s lying.
Could be both, could be none, for me it’s rather sad that someone is using his time to try and get attention and/or taking the piss out of others on the internet, or even thinking that this is entertaining or funny.
Mind you, I’ve had the day off and spend it doing bugger all but even then, I think it was more productive than this poor guy.
Yeah I’ve got someone doing that on youtube, voting down all my videos because he didn’t like my comment about consoles. He’s even subscribed to my channel so he can vote down my videos LOL.
Internet today is quite the most depressing place, and that’s coming from someone that has a depressive personality lol.
What’s your YT channel btw? I may even the odds with the “dislike dude” by giving some likes there 😉
On a unrelated note, that’s some gorgeous themes there on your Deviantart, I was thinking about moving to KDE and those are definitely a push towards it! 😀
Yes was going to make it a theme, art guide channel but started putting gameplay tests on there now, I haven’t done any artwork in a long time, just got out of it for gaming instead. 🙂

hitler did nothing wrong, the jews killed themselves XDDDDDDDDDDD
“With E3 2015 we said, OK, let’s make sure the games are playable, that they’re running on the target machines.” hm.
Really? It took them that damn long to learn that? That’s so stupid, I thought they were in house beta testers and freelance ones hired for this particular job. My god, it’ smells incompetence all over again.
That’s a grotesque lie unless they admit that all their games were running on PC. Ghost Recon will not look like that on consoles. I doubt it will look like that on PC even but that’s at least debatable.
Now they gonna work on 10 games and none of them will be finished at all
STFU and give Massive Entertainment the money to make World in Conflict 2 or sell the IP to SEGA/Relic.
its their IP, and also i recommend giving world in conflict to dice, not to atlus
“Assassin’s Creed: Unity and Watch_Dogs”
hate is not only related to these games from 2014, it older than a decade now. from nasty DRM/malwares to crippled pc version of their games to “ghost recon advanced warfighter”ing PC version of their games to always online to downgrades to vertical slices to parity to optimizations to “it’s pc who cares” to firing and then chasing and then firing AC creator again… and it will not stop in years to come.
“OK, let’s make sure the games are playable”
ha ha ha ha, funny.
“That’s what we learned from the Watch Dogs experience”
so AC Unity teached them nothing ? btw if they learned from washdogs why they released ACU after that ? washdogs was more playable than ACU.
“they can make all the decisions they need to to make it happen”
unless it sell less than 4m copies then we are going to shut them down and throw them in street.
And The Division already got a downgrade 😛 ; so what have they learned from E3 ? (Don’t get me wrong, if a ”little” downgrade helps with performance , then i really don’t mind it, but as we’ve seen from Ubisoft , that is not the case).
there is no downgrade
Very true. Dark Messiah of Might and Magic remains crippled because they wouldn’t support it after launch. Despite that Arkane did a good job on the game and it became one of my favorites- albeit flawed. However after that I never bought another Ubisoft title.
Ubisoft will release more optimized products and EA is listening t their costumers. Different day, same bulls#ite.
Damage control I think is what they call this.
ubisoft is awesome
indie games suck, half life sucks
Ubisoft, Ubisoft… I totally their next scandal in September when they release Heroes VII before it’s done.
The last good PC game from ubisoft was Far Cry 3 (AMD Title 😉 )
I disagree, quite a few of there games are good games, they just run like complete sh*t, FarCry 3 included, it still runs pretty sh*t today. If I look at the frame rates I get in FC4 and FC3, FC3 runs even worse taking graphics into consideration.
On the positive side their new games have already dropped Physx for the new Havok so that should help quite a bit.
I mean if you are Linus Tech tips fanboy you can hate them and blame them for everything that has ever gone wrong in gaming. Make sure to have your mom buy you a LTT shirt, to give that sellout clown more money as well.
Not that I totally believe Ubisoft and will go out and buy their game right away. I will give them a chance though. More actions less words. Put some more effort into the PC ports, consider Vulkan or DX 12 API sooner rather than later, invest in Uplay if you want us to use it (Origin was horrible at first and got much better).
Far Cry 4 would have been a good port with a low level API. The CPU threading was just horrible. How about going back and fixing that? Give the game either a Vulkan/DX 12 port. Something like that would earn some good will back with PC Gamers. That game could potentially sell well for years (look at Far Cry 3). It would be worth the upgrade.
Just don’t buy their games on day one and Ubi ain’t that bad. Sure, Uplay is the awful and their PC ports are often poor, but damnit if they don’t release a lot of my favourite games (in the past at least).
“That’s what we learned from the Watch Dogs experience – if it can’t be played on the target machine, it can be a risk.” Ubisoft you’re just afraid of the refund system. These guys didn’t care before, they’re changing their attitude now because they’re afraid. It seems they only respond when they lose money which most PC gamers can do now.
It’s pretty significant for a publisher, especially a AAA publisher, to make a concerted move away from vertical slice presentation. That presentation is nothing new in the industry, but we had less information on games in the past and the end products tended to look better, rather than worse so fewer people felt burnt.
But I think ultimately pre-order culture has a part to play in the negativity surrounding vertical slices: Publishers are now asking for your money months in advance on a promise made based on vertical slice footage (that gamers don’t consider representative of the actual game they’ll get). And to my knowledge, no other medium works that way.
Once they take your money publishers have an obligation to make good on whatever promise they make.
This is great in theory, but I’ll believe it when I see it. And if these games use UPlay, I ain’t touching them, regardless of how good they are.
