Project CARS – Unofficial FAQ Sheds Some Light On WiiU Delay, Unveils Pre-Release Demo

Project CARS’ Authorized Facebook Fan Page has posted a new FAQ regarding the release date of Slightly Mad Studios’ racer. According to this FAQ, Project CARS will hit PC, PS4 and Xbox One this November, with a WiiU version coming in 2015.

According to the FAQ, the WiiU delay is due to the different architecture of this console.

“WiiU uses a substantially different architecture to other consoles and the PC, meaning it takes more time to code to the same quality of the other releases.

Moreover, Namco Bandai will only be the distributor of this game and not its publisher. As the FAQ and the FB page note, Namco Bandai has no control over the content of the game nor the release date.

This unofficial FAQ also stated that a demo will be coming prior to the game’s release. Although it did not specify the platforms, we can expect this demo to hit the Internet before November.

Last but not least, YouTube’s member ‘Darren White’ has shared a new video, showing off some WIP rain ripples.

Enjoy!

  1. So…basically they’re saying screw Wii U owners, your console isn’t as important as the PS4/X1 even though Wii U development started before the former consoles. Not even gonna buy the game anymore.

    1. Let’s see what the final specs of the Wii U are when closer to release. IF by the specs, they clearly didn’t push it as far as they could, THEN I’m giving up on it. Otherwise, I look forward to hopefully getting a demo so I see how it plays, and see if it holds up well in reviews and footage.

    2. I like Nintendo, but this is why I stay away from Nintendo consoles until they have more+great 3rd party support (not sure if the Wii U will even reach that point). You can’t release a game system without great 3rd party support, even if you’re a great first party dev like Nintendo. Not to mention that Nintendo is far behind in the online gaming scene.

  2. Their reasoning behind the architecture, is BS.

The Xbox 360 uses architecture similar to the PowerPC IBM architecture that the Wii U does.
They shouldn’t be struggling with something like that, that’s been around since ’92, and thus should have some experience with already.
If they could code quickly for the PC build, let alone the 360 build, before they dropped it, they could code quickly for the Wii U.

It’s not exactly unfamiliar technology, so the reasons are a straight-out lie.

On top of that, they’re releasing the games for other consoles, around the same time as at least 3 other big-name racing games, which is going to cannibalize their sales.

Slightly Mad, you need to face facts; The only way this delay won’t be a detriment to your project, is if it’s applied to ALL VERSIONS of the game.

Otherwise, you risk having your game’s sales destroyed by both similar-game-cannibalism, and the loss of support by the people on the Wii U who were one of the only two systems the game was originally coming out for.

    Don’t be foolish about this.

    1. I agree with you on the delay. They should delay the game OVERALL, for ALL platforms. With both DRIVECLUB and The Crew coming out Oct. 7th and Nov. 11th, and now Project CARS slated for November as well, it’s making me have to choose between at least 2 of the 3 total Holiday 2014 racing games. So far, my money is on The Crew and DRIVECLUB and Project CARS is 3rd. I’m sure there are other racing games coming out this year that I am forgetting or that just haven’t been advertised a lot (or there are just ones that I’ve not heard of), but not sure on definite release dates or even which ones they may be, if any others aside from the “big three” I just mentioned… 😉

    2. right..unlike other title that hastly released on wii u like cod ghost and ac4,hope this late due to use the console capabilities
no lazy port this time please

  3. BS. Not saying this is official BS because this is Fan Page and not controlled by SMS… so who knows.

BUT, Wii U is closer to PS4 and X1 than it was to PS360 in dev terms (all are GPGPU focused over CPU focused PS360 and all have DSPs) and the wii U was been worked on 12 months before ps4 or x1 were… come-on, wii u is 12 months + the extra time they’re asking for beyond that more difficult of dev time worth over ps4 or x1???? Yeah, exactly, of course it isn’t.

Let’s entertain this ludicrous notion for a moment and you’ll still see that SMS would have still have been throwing Wii U under the bus by not dividing development up equally so all versions get released at the same time.

It’s BS on top of BS with BS for desert.

  4. stop the discrimination on us nintendo fans. we are the actual gamers, not those dushbag fps asswholes on xbox and playstaton.

    1. It’s fine to be pissed and say that the discrimination needs to stop, but please, keep things clean, bro.
Don’t go around bashing Sony and Microsoft fans.
I know there’s a lot of trolls in both those camps that do exactly what I’ve asked you not to do, but you’ve gotta be above that.
There are good people in both those camps, and there’s no reason to throw a blanket statement on all of them because of a lot of bad trolls.
The console wars don’t need more fuel.

  5. i was soo exited about this title when it was first announced, but seeing how you guys are giving the middle finger to us nintendo fan and putting your game on systems that have well known racing games. well good luck selling your games there cause all xbox people play are fps and ps gamers play random 3rd party trash. you had a chance to build your game to be something unique with the nintendo crowd. but now im not gonna support you guys

  6. If you’re saying CARS should be delayed so it can be launched during a period with less Car Games, meh.

If you’re saying CARS should be delayed across ALL Platforms because of an issue with ONE Platform, GTFO. GTA V PC was just delayed because of some issues with the New-Gen Consoles Port & that caused a lot of ragefesting, but you want to delay the entire thing, across ALL Platforms, FOR NO REASON AT ALL? Seriously? Get real, & get over yourself. If you want to be a “Special Bunny” stick to Platform-Exclusive Games.

It’s easy to port a Game from PC to PS/Xbox, especially the New-Gen, the Controls need tweaking, stuff needs to be toned down, but overall, it’s easy. Porting to the Wii U (especially needing to design Controls specifically around the Wii U’s unique controller) is always something completely unto itself however.

You should also keep in mind that perhaps they simply ran out of manpower & resources, so they opted to prioritize the easiest versions first. If nothing else, take the delay as proof that they won’t be making a lazy port, as otherwise they could have simply rushed it to release it alongside the other versions.

Seriously, I’d expect this level of whining on an Xbox Forum from 12 year olds complaining their latest CoD Clone was delayed, not from Nintendo’s supposed “True Console Gamers.”

  7. I wouldn’t say that ‘a lot’ of the backers were in solely for Wii U, the port wasn’t even announced until a long way into the funding. I would be surprised if less than 90% of the backers are in primarily for PC.

  8. For reference, Darren White is actually one of SMS’ staff, that video is showing off what he and the rest of the art and render teams are up to. They normally don’t get linked outside of the development forum, but this one is public for a glimpse into what WMD members get to see every day.
