Interceptor Launches New Countdown Page For Duke Nukem: Mass Destruction

Interceptor Entertainment has launched a new countdown page for its latest Duke Nukem title, Duke Nukem: Mass Destruction. According to the source code, the countdown will most probably end next month (2014-05-15), though that’s not confirmed as of yet.

Those interested can visit the new countdown page here.

Since this page has been launched, we are pretty sure that the legal issues Interceptor faced have been resolved. That, or Interceptor has removed everything related to Duke Nukem.

Duke Nukem: Mass Destruction will be a top-down action RPG that will be powered by Unreal Engine, and targets both PC and Playstation platforms.

Here is the initial image for Duke Nukem: Mass Destruction that was released at the launch of its first countdown page.

    1. Even after they SOLD THE RIGHTS to Gearbox they are still going. I don’t see any legal murkiness here. Like them or not, Gearbox owns Duke. I just hope they make a GOOD Duke game sometime. Forever was basically just 3D Realms work cleaned up a little.

      1. I sincerely doubt that 3DRealms put a two weapon limit and slow player movement in a Duke Nukem game. I believe Gearbox changed quite a few things.

        1. Yeah, 3dRealms also didn’t finish the levels, the missions, the game, either.

So yeah, Gearbox HAD to change more than a few things because otherwise the game wouldn’t actually …you know, play.

  1. Seems pretty obvious by the URL name and the new image on the page that Duke is no longer involved. Sucks for Interceptor since it’s the second time they’ve tried and failed to make a Duke Nukem game.

    1. They should have worked out an agreement with Gearbox, the real owners of the franchise, before they needlessly bought the scraps of 3dRealms and argued they owned Duke Nukem to everyone who knows it ain’t true.

Seems like Broussard is a madman, selling the same company assets twice to two groups and arguing both times it’s the one they’re selling to.

      1. thats not all they did supposedly they worked on it a bit(in reality i heard they just removed all the cool stuff 3drealms had done and left it crappy on purpose)

but if not true why release a crappy game on purpose? they were gonna give us the game duke 4 was supposed to be? why say that and release stripped down garbage.

    1. Gearbox DOES make bad games (and a couple of good ones), but their problem with Duke Nukem Forever was mostly to do with trying to keep any of the pre-existing assets.

They should have remade the game, top to bottom. That way, if you hated it, at least they’d be to blame.

    2. Not very bright are you skippy? Gearbox didn’t do anything to Duke Nukem except polish up the 15 years of work 3D realms did and finally ship it….Here’s a protip genius, You should be blaming 3D realms….Or maybe look at the fact that the game was from 1997

  2. With the new bomb image on the countdown page I wonder if the game now stars Bombshell, a character who was originally supposed to appear in DNF as Duke’s female counterpart. If you Google “Interceptor Bombshell” you’ll find a link to a Facebook post from back in November when they were searching for a female voice actress to portray one of the main characters for their unannounced next-gen game.

    1. We’ll have to see then! I watched their videos carefully on youtube, and you can see the reflections off of their wall Darth Vader poster near the billboard content they “blacked out”, I’m pretty sure it was on purpose though for the wondering eyes. You could make out a lot of their artwork clearly if you paused the youtube video on the poster (The YT video showing their new office location), I could clearly see some of the creature concepts and what looked like to be a female character possibly. Lets see! I wish it could be Duke Nukem.. but I don’t see how it can be done legally thanks to horrible Gearbox, who knows.. I’ll pretend for now, otherwise I hope for a fun, and new introduction of The Duke’s lady counterpart etc.

  3. I’m interested to see what they’ve managed to come up with, a topdown RPG shooter doesn’t sound that bad. It is just sad that we have to wait 30 days before this potentially will happen ._.

  4. @randir14:disqus Nah I don’t think so in this case, cool thought though. They specifically said in the description “The (King) makes (HIS) next generation debut” (Duke Nukem) etc. (Duke Nukem) kicks ass across planets. All of this sounds awesome so long as I can hear Duke’s voice and the gameplay is nostalgic. Top-Down Action RPG sounds interesting and can be done really well. I’m personally excited, I don’t understand other comments negativity, it’s still called DUKE NUKEM, they didn’t abandon anything. It’s not like anyone has to buy the game when it’s shown.. if it looks amazing we’ll all get excited and throw our wallets, if it doesn’t, then.. whatever. No sense in thinking the worst.. that’s no fun, get imaginative because it’s coming.

    1. That description was on the original site. The new URL ‘no gum needed’ sounds like they’re hyping a new hero (ex. “I don’t need gum to kick ass”). Plus the new bomb logo has nothing to do with Duke Nukem. If Duke was still involved I think they would’ve just relaunched the first countdown page.

  5. As long as Randy the Prickford has nothing to do with the game it will probably be great! Interceptor did a bang up job with ROTT, they put regular development teams to shame.
