Watch Dogs is a game we are really looking forward to. Ubisoft’s new open world game will be powered by a new game engine called Disrupt and promises to take advantage of multi-core CPUs. According to various rumors, the release date of Watch Dogs will be announced this week and it seems that Ubisoft is gearing up for ‘something’ as it has released a new screenshot for it. Is this the calm before the storm? Most probably. For the time being, enjoy the screenshot and stay tuned for more!

  1. I must say that I think this is a very disappointing image. I’m really looking forward to Watch Dogs (and am excited to feast on any new media) but this is an ugly and strange image to release (especially on it’s own). I’d almost suggest it’s a fake, though I trust DSOG’s sources.

Look at the lighting which is so flat (where’s the strong saturated directional light from the setting sun?). The skydome lacks depth and the colour seams mismatched. Those windows, which are lit, look far too dim. The headlamps of the vehicles all share a very fake looking frustrum box which just looks jarring. I know this is a far off shot and everything is LOD’d but I expected more (GTA5 on last gen look as good as this). The horizon line to the right just looks odd too (clouds are cut off at a harsh line) and the scene is full of jaggies. Even the composition feels odd with no real focal point except maybe the bottom left corner, separated by value separation and giving emphasis to those replica car beams. Is it me or are the street light bulbs missing? There’s the hotspots on the road but no source.

I feel bad criticizing but it’s only because everything has been of such high quality and they’ve set the benchmark. You’re probably not meant to see the city from this viewpoint but if so then why put out this image? I mean, one image for this game is newsworthy. Can’t wait to see more though.

It’s even worse than that. It’s the cars that are missing. What a huge downgrade from the last E3 videos…

I hope this is a Last Gen screenshot.
