Let’s be honest here; if the following screenshots were not coming from the new Dark Souls 2 game, most of you would be calling it a graphical disgrace. And you would be right as these latest screenshots from this upcoming RPG look really, really, REALLY bad. We are certain that as a game, Dark Souls 2 will be great. But when it comes to its IQ, we have to admit that everything – from its lighting system to its low-res textures – looks as old-gen as it can get.

I was just going to say WTF happened to what I saw in the trailer 2 days ago which I was under the impression was from the in-game engine or was I totally mistaken? Because this looks like garbage!

Sometimes it´s as if the japanese video game developers live in a vacuum. Graphics are not everything but they are nonetheless, an important aspect of a game.
Too bad the PC version won’t end up much better :/

these are not PC version screenshots, hopefully the delay will be worth the wait.
Wow , this indeed look very bad . Don’t get me wrong but some screens (specially few last ones) look like a PS2 game . They said PC version was built from ground up to be a PC Game . I hope they were right and delay of it was to boost console version sales because PC version looks a lot better .

I doubt that they revealed lower quality screen shots while having better ones. Usually assets, such as textures, are created with high resolution and then scaled to the target platform if necessary and not the other way around. So I’m afraid this is what the game will look like and I’m not surprised unless they decide to improve them… although, in this case, why show them to the public if they will be better? If this game had a modern visuals, it would be so much more inviting to invest more playtime into it.
Ouch, these screens have AWFUL image quality…Didn’t expect this to be honest. Hell, even TES IV: Oblivion from 2006 looks much better than this. I’m not a graphics whore at all but this game (at least the console version) is one of the worst looking 7th gen titles I’ve ever seen.
This is definitely NOT screenshots from the PC version. The IGN gameplay reveal looks way better than this.

no that was demon’s souls. Cant say it has gone too far since then.
My experiance with the first game was that it looks like a 2005 game, the sound is bad, the animations are horrible, the controls are also bad and the voice acting/dialogues are horrible, i mean “YOU DEFEATED” come on, thats horrible translation.
So wherever you like the game or not it is blatantly clear this is not a AAA game, but it has low production values (thus they were happy with fewer sales) and the game manged to be sucessfull with a cult audience.
Therefore…it was to be expected, dark souls isnt highly quality super polish uber budget game.
Not that any of you fans care, what it matters is the game being hard, right?
Be honest you would rather play this than something like say dragon age or skyrim with simplistic gameplay that holds your hand despite being more polished.
Ps i dont care wherver you love or hate this game, i am making a point here. I still play old games despite their old graphics and bad controls and outdated techonology because they are good games. You shouldnt demand graphics up to current standards from a game with specific cult audience.
Also is it me or the characters look more generic, more like your standard medieval rpg?

Hope you won´t need to mod the hell out of it again to make it look average and play it better with keyboard and mouse.
I’m pretty sure these are from the console versions. I ran Dark souls 1 at 2560 x 1440 and it looked a lot better than this.
When we talk about Dark Souls we talk about the gameplay cause it’s not Crysis or Battlefield… game made by fans for fans… All the effort is going to be put on the new Demon’s souls II basically going to be ps4 exclusive…
I think we might be in luck guys, they’re not uber downsampled screenshots so they will better on our PC at 1080 and over. Doesn’t look like it has AA as well judging from that tree which means the game will look better when you get it.
Usually it’s the other way around, uber screenshots and looks worse when you get the game so all is not lost. BTW, Dark Souls downsampled looks awesome and more than playable on a GTX560, that’s 3200×1800 downsampled plus DSfix features.
