As promised, modder ‘PunishedWolf’ has released Update 1.1 for Gears of War: Redux. This is a major update for this community overhaul of Gears of War 1. Additionally, the modder has shared some more details about it. So, let’s dive in.
For those who did not know, Gears of War Redux is a community overhaul of Gears of War 1 on PC that adds the content and quality-of-life improvements the original release never got.
Gears of War Redux adds maps from GW2 and custom community maps to the rotation and custom community maps. It also adds Horde mode, Horde+, KOTH, Guardian, and TDM.
What’s also cool here is that the mod adds split-screen co-op support. As such, you can play the entire campaign mode with a friend on one PC. Not only that, but we get split-screen local multiplayer support for every multiplayer mode.
Bots now have adjustable difficulty in every multiplayer mode. Plus, there is a Last Stand Horde toggle. When you enable it, the wave ends when the last human dies. There is also an in-game chat system. And, in case you’re wondering, yes. We also have support for full keyboard rebinding with split cover/evade keys.
Furthermore, there are some tech improvements. For instance, we get support for DirectX 10 and DirectX 11. We also get ultra-wide support (21:9 / 32:9) with proper FOV.
I should also note that this overhaul is for the original PC version of Gears of War. It’s not for the Reloaded Edition. So, make sure to keep that in mind. The visual enhancements that came with the Reloaded Edition are nowhere to be found.
Update 1.1 will add three new weapons. These are the Sawed-off Shotgun, Sawed-off Bayonet, and Breechshot. We’ll also get a new Launcher and new Executions.
Not only that, but we’ll get some new mutators for both the campaign and the horde modes. As such, the campaign will now have enemies from Gears of War 2. Plus, we’ll get some bug fixes and a number of QoL improvements.
It’s also worth noting that we get some new tech features. For instance, we now have fluid surfaces. Water will now react to what happens in it. Update 1.1 also brings fractured static meshes. Geometry will now shatter into real pieces under fire. Moreover, we get the destructible props from Gears of War 2. Cars, trucks, gas pumps, desks, cabinets, and more will now be breakable.
And there is more. Gears of War: Redux now supports NVIDIA’s RTX Remix. NVIDIA owners can now enable it from the launcher. From what I’ve seen, though, there aren’t any PBR materials. So, it may take a while until we get a proper path-traced version of it.
All in all, this is a huge update for Gears of War: Redux. You can download it from this link. You can also find its full changelog here.
Have fun!
