As I’ve said before, Bloodborne is fully playable on PC right now thanks to the PlayStation 4 emulator, shadPS4. But do you need a high-end GPU to enjoy it? Or is it possible to play it on an ancient AMD Radeon RX 580, which comes with only 4GB? Well, let’s find out.
For those who did not know, shadPS4 is the best PlayStation 4 emulator for PC. This emulator can run a lot of games right now. This whole project started with the desire to run Bloodborne on PC. And just a few weeks ago, they got really close to making Driveclub fully playable too.
Now, the big problem with Bloodborne was its VRAM leak issues. After playing for a while, the game would fill the entire VRAM and would eventually crash. Thankfully, though, a new version just came out that addresses this issue. By using some mods and this latest version of shadPS4, you can now run Bloodborne on an AMD Radeon RX 580 with 60FPS. And no, that’s not a joke.
To prove this, YouTuber ‘ProteinGaming’ shared the following video. In it, we can see Bloodborne running on the AMD Radeon RX 580 with an average of 60FPS. To get those playable framerates, the YouTuber used three mods. Those were the FPS Boost Mod, the Downscale Textures mod, and the No Cloth Physics Mod.
As you’ll see, there are a few small framerate drops. But most of the time, Bloodborne runs at 60FPS on this old graphics card. And remember, this isn’t a real PC version of the game – it’s being emulated from the PS4. The GPU being used came out back in 2017, so this is really impressive, even though the resolution was just 768p.
Now I know what some will say. “Oh, that’s 768p? Meh, it’s not even 1080p“. And, if you say something like that, you have no idea at all about emulation. Need to remind you that we needed an Intel Pentium 2 to emulate SNES?
Again, this is mind-blowing. At least for those who know a thing or two about emulation. And yes, you can download this latest version of shadPS4 from this link.
Right now, shadPS4 can almost fully run Driveclub. It can also launch The Order: 1886, but it still needs more work. It might take some time before we can play that one smoothly. Still, I’m really excited to try both games once they are fully working.
Some other PS4 exclusives that can run on shadPS4 are Fist of the North Star: Lost Paradise, Alienation, and The Witch & The Hundred Knight 2. Plus, the emulator can launch inFAMOUS: Second Son, Killzone: Shadow Fall, and God of War 3 Remastered.
Enjoy and stay tuned for more!

"Need to remind you that we needed an Intel Pentium 2 to emulate SNES?"
This should be pinned on every emulator page because people can be extremely stupid on this subject
That statement is outright wrong.
Im 45 and been emulating since 90s, my first PC was Pentium MMX 100mhz [or 120mhz dont remember]
and back than on Windows 95 i played SNES games, it was the EARLY days of emulation, but i been playing some games, especially JRPGs
Still, the SNES CPU is barely 3mhz at best with 128kb of ram, you get the message…
Yep, sure. but it worked, somewhat, it was great and new
Did you use the zsnes emulator? That was one of the first to be able to run on lower spec systems.. although I think it came out in 1999..? Got lots of memories using zsnes.
Im sure it was Snes96 or Super pasofami [which i think the same thing]
Considering the 1st mmx CPUs released were 1997. They were the 166 and 200 (with 233 added later) which happen to be the same year the zsnes emulator was released (unofficially since version 1.0 was the official release in 2000), I'm going with whether a PI or PII, that's still a lot of CPU to emulate a SNES, especially considering the mmx CPUs has twice the cache of a no-mmx CPU.
Then i think it was my second PC, because first one was defiantly Pentium 100 or 120 or 133 [or one of the above overclocked to 133], I got my first PC in 1995 when i was 15
I remember playing Diablo 1 and thats 1996 and that PC did emulate SNES, i guess using Super Pasofami that came out in 1996
Emulating SNES wasn’t smooth, some games needed frame skip
Eventually I got a SNES + Floppy drive and so i had no need in emulators, i had day1 PS1 and SNES+Floppy [I had sega genesis that i traded for 3Do that i later traded for SNES+Floppy]
PS1 emulation was already at full speed in 1999 using Connectix Virtual Game station and need to remind u the specs of PCs in that era ?
The specs of a 1999 PC ? Bro the average PC of that era was still far better than a PS1, but try running VGS on a 1994 PC…
4K/120 or no game!
Given that he's hitting 60fps with a Ryzen 1600 and an RX 580, 4k/120fps probably is doable with top end hardware
Depends on the quality of the upscaler, Xenia for example can do 60 fps at native res pretty easily, but you turn on internal res to X2 and the framerate goes down to the abyss and that's without mentioning the glitches
Interesting. Well, I'm assuming ShadPS4 isn't being developed by the same team that made Xenia so hopefully the performance falloff with increased rendering resolutions isn't so bad.
Old game runs well. Riveting
Relatively old PS4 game runs well on PC via emulation. Riveting.
Here you got corrected, you're welcome
Emulation isn't the same as running a game natively.
thousands of games would have been lost to time if it wasn't for emulation, i'm happy that bloodborne will be preserved for future when no OG hardware available anymore
Glory to the RX 580 that refuses to die against all odds
A lot of fans: We want this game on Steam!
Sony: No! We like leaving money on the table!
Guess I will wait 2 more years. I waited all these times, whats a few more years. By then hopefully we get no more bugs and resolution scale would work nicely. Or maybe even the official remaster will come out just like Half life 3

Wow, it's almost like they barely need to do any work for it anymore. Just hire this guy and make money Sony, what the f*k are you even doing with your lives?
