The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered Patch 1.2 Is Now Available on All Platforms

Bethesda has just released Title Update 1.2 for The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered on all platforms. This patch came out on PC in the form of a Beta Update on July 9th. And now, one week later, it has been fully released to everyone.

The devs added some new difficulty settings. Now, players can change how much damage they inflict and receive in combat. In the Gameplay menu, you can choose from these options: Novice, Apprentice, Adept, Journeyman, Expert, and Master.

Update 1.2 also makes the game more stable. From what we can see, the devs have fixed numerous crashes. For instance, they have fixed crashes that could occur during auto saves. They have also fixed crashes that could occur while fighting Jyggalag. Plus, they have addressed various GPU crashes.

Bethesda has fixed frame rate drops that could happen in various areas. They also claimed that they reduced how often the game stutters while exploring the open world. On top of that, they improved the weather system and made character animations smoother.

And that’s not all. The devs have fixed a cursor slowdown when enabling high frame rate V-Sync. Weather VFX flashing while outside has also been fixed. Plus, there was a bug that could cause the shaders to not preload due to cloud save replication. This issue has been fixed. Water will no longer disappear while you fast travel. And, for those who wanted to use Intel XeSS, the devs have fixed some flickering shadows that could appear with it.

Since I’ve tried the patch, I can say that this is mostly a nothing-burger. Oblivion Remastered still stutters, though those traversal stutters have been somewhat reduced. Still, this update won’t turn the game into a stutter-free experience. And, to be honest, I don’t really think this will ever happen.

The good news is that the patch is compatible with most of the mods we’ve shared. As such, you can use it with this mod that brings a true first-person camera to the game. This mod will immediately remind you of Trespasser. It’s a cool mod, though I can’t classify it as a must-have. So, you can skip it if you are happy with the game’s default first-person camera viewpoint.

There are also mods that bring back the game’s original colors, make lights shine farther, and give female characters their own unique walking and running animations. So, it’s a good idea to check them out.

Let’s also not forget the first 4K Texture Pack for the game. This pack improved the textures of armors, weapons, clothing, and jewelry. To upscale the vanilla textures, its creator used AI tools. As such, the new textures retained the art style of the original ones.

We also have a mod that aims to improve the behavior of all animals. Plus, the creator of the amazing HD Reworked mods for The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077 has released his first mods. So, make sure to check them out.

Another must-have mod is this one. Ultra Combat UE4SS – Physical Combat Overhaul will significantly improve the game’s combat system. This mod brings to Oblivion Remastered a few modern mechanics like Perfect Dodge, Perfect Guard, and slowmo for headshots. I’ve been playing the game with this mod, and I cannot stress enough how amazing it is. With this mod, all combat encounters feel much better than before. Let’s also not forget this mod that adds 43 travelers to the roads of Cyrodiil.

Finally, there is a mod that adds over 500+ hand-placed light sources to the Imperial City. We’ve also shared a Witcher-inspired DLC-sized Mod. So, be sure to check them out.

Like always, Steam will download this update the next time you launch its client. Below, you can also find its complete changelog.

    1. It actually does something… Makes some heavier areas lighter, but sprinkles some additional stuttering all around.

  1. About two-thirds of this article is all about mods what you can download and which ones work together.

A lot of articles are like that. They barely talk about the game or any updates, just a couple lines, and then it’s all mod talk from there.

  2. It really is crazy how these companies like Bethesda treat their cult classic IPs. They had one chance at making an actually good remaster of Oblivion, but they chose to make it a piece of Unreal Engine 5 slop.. This "remaster" is an unquantifiably much worse way to play the game compared to the original.

  3. I'm so glad I kept the original Oblivion on my hard drive (Magipack version).
