3dSen feature

After 10 years of development, the emulator that lets you play NES games in full 3D has been fully released

3dSen, the amazing emulator that lets you play all the NES games in full 3D, has left Early Access and has been fully released. Created by a single dev over 10 years, this is a must for all NES fans. This will let you re-experience your favourite NES games in a new way. So, don’t sleep on it.

3dSen started with a simple idea. What if you could play classic NES games, not just emulated, but reimagined, rebuilt, and experienced in full 3D? Not just parallax or just layers. But true 3D environments. And now, after ten years of hard work, this emulator has reached Version 1.0.

Right now, 3dSen has 100 NES game profiles. It does not support the entire NES library. Still, you can find profiles for almost all of the NES classics. In other words, Punch Out, Zelda, Ninja Gaiden, Tetris, Super Mario Bros, Contra, Metroid, and more are supported.

3dSen comes with real-time lighting and shadows. The emulator adds depth and drama to every scene with dynamic visuals. Not only that, but it packs animated skyboxes, making every level feel alive with immersive skies and backgrounds. It also has custom camera controls. Players can zoom, rotate, and frame the action just the way they like.

And that’s not all. Its creator has implemented a couple of cool QoL improvements. For instance, you can quick save and load anytime and anywhere. There are also rollback and fast-forward mechanics. Plus, there is support for VR.

I cannot stress enough how amazing this emulator is. And, to be honest, I’d love to see a similar emulator for the 16-bit consoles. Just imagine a similar emulator for SNES or Genesis. Now that would be mind-blowing.

3dSen comes with a 40% discount until June 26th. So, if you are a die-hard NES fan, I suggest checking it out. Below, you can also find its latest trailer. Be sure to watch it as it highlights all of its features.

Enjoy and stay tuned for more!

    1. Honestly, this is one of the very few things that I actually aid them in doing so. You know why? Because this s󠀀hi󠀀t is literally a paid emulator! Yeah, paid emulators. FML.

          1. That’s what i mean. It’s not like Nintendo is making any money from NES anymore. It’s a retired platform.
If Nintendo was clever, they could ask for royalties, or, the best thing for its reputation would be to announce that they’re fine with the emulator and all the emulators of retired platforms in general.

  1. The dude seriously expects us to purchase his amateur emulator?

passion project are just projects when there is no suffering.

  2. Cool concept, but I'd never pay for it. Any paid emulator I've ever seen always ends up getting shut down or in massive legal issues, and Nintendo is so trigger happy with lawsuits that I'm honestly surpised anyone still makes new emulators for their products.

    1. Incorrect. Emulation is protected by law. You're confusing developers of emulators being contributors of piracy with emulation itself.

      1. I'm not confusing anything, I'm aware of the "protections" emulation has. I also specified "I've seen" as a specific ground for my argument to not pay for it myself, but thank you for letting me know what I was thinking.

That aside, what I see as becoming an issue that Nintendo will shut this down for is not only the fact that anyone new to emulation will be driven to download copies of the roms needed, i.e. promoting piracy, but also the concept of protected assests being modified in an unauthorized manner.

Bottom line, it's a cool gimmick, but it's never worth paying for an emulator.

    2. You do realize that the 3dSen has been available for purchase on Steam for FIVE YEARS in its Early Access phase, right? 😛 . Nintendo won't take it down because: a) it does not circumvent any encrypted protection (which is the solely reason why they were able to take down the Switch emulators) and b) it has clean code, without featuring any in-game assets/ROMs.

      1. To be fair, I honestly didn’t know it had been available prior to this, had it not been for this article I’d still be unaware it even exists. I get the whole protected code such as the Switch emulators, but I’m actually surpised it only supports a portion of the games while maintaining no assests. The limited library support for this gimmick is what lead me to believe something incorrect, given that basically every NES game is playable on most emulators available.

So yeah, I stand corrected. Still can’t convince me it’s worth spending money on though lol

        1. The reason the library is limited is because the dev is manually tuning the 3D voxel effects per title. This is time-consuming. In short, it's not a universal trick that works flawlessly in every game. To get great results, he had to fine-tune it per game.

      2. switch emulators got shafted because idiots shred encryption keys, that's sole reason, its not that they broke encryption its that they shared keys.
normally such keys are hosted off site and emulator devs don't provide links for them but switch guys got sloppy and paid price for it.

    3. "Any paid emulator I've ever seen always ends up getting shut down or in massive legal issues"

You meant to say any switch emulators.

  3. Too busy creating false 3D information to ask whether this should have been done at all.

The actual 3D representations would be much more intricate and deep. This is just some garbage based on layers. Better to leave it 2D and imagine for yourself what the 3D would be. Do they use shading on sprites to define subtle differences in backgrounds and shapes? Doubt it.

  4. Cool but charging for a emulator (that's already of questionable legality by definition) is not the way to get people to use it

  5. NO WAY! You're telling me that now I can play the worst games ever made by the worst gaming company ever in 3D??😍😍😍 AAAAWESOOOOOME!

But you know what, instead I'll go download the enhanced Megadrive Roms packs on InternetArchive, and enjoy Road Rash with improved frame rate and Dean Harris improved OSTs.😃👍

    1. I hate people that barf meme responses without even checking if they are talking out of their a$$es.

  6. 3dSen, the amazing emulator that lets you play all the NES games in full 3D

It does not support the entire NES library.

    So which one is it?
