Here’s another look at the Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell RTX Remix Path Tracing Mod

In May 2024, we shared the first WIP video for an upcoming RTX Remix Mod for Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell. And, a few days ago, modder ‘skurtyyskirts’ shared another video for it, showcasing its WIP Path Tracing effects.

As I said, this is still a WIP video. This means that there are still numerous graphical glitches and issues. So, be sure to keep that in mind while watching the video.

Now the good news here is that once – and if – the mod is complete, this may be the best way to re-experience this classic Splinter Cell game. Yes, Ubisoft is working on an official remake of it. However, the team aims to make changes to it for a modern audience. We can also expect some gameplay changes. So, for all die-hard Splinter Cell fans, this mod may turn out to be a better “remake” than the official one.

It’s also worth noting that Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell had a lot of dynamic lights that players could destroy. In the original game, Ubisoft also used fake lights to keep the environments lit. So, I’m curious to see how the modder will address this. My guess is that he might need to place some new lights to the environments (something that RTX Remix allows you to do).

Anyway, there is a lot of potential here. So, let’s hope that skurtyyskirts will keep working on it.

These past few months we’ve shared a lot of RTX Remix Mods for various games. In January 2023, we shared several RTX Remix Mods that are in the works. As such, you can take a look at screenshots and videos for Tomb Raider 2,  Grand Theft Auto: Vice CityManhunt, and Garfield Kart RTX Remix. Then, in February 2024, we shared videos for Need for Speed: Most WantedUnrealTony Hawk’s Pro Skater 4 and Midnight Club 2. In March 2024, we also shared the first screenshots from the RTX Remix Mod for Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines. Finally, you can check out some early RTX Remix videos for Fallout: New Vegas and Half-Life.

Speaking of Path Tracing Mods for older titles, you might also want to check out the following ones. Modders released demos for their Path Tracing Mods for Deus ExTomb RaiderMax Payne, Nerf Arena Blast and Call of Duty 4. Do note that the COD4 Mod is a “proof of concept” demo, and it does not look that great. On the other hand, the RTX Remix Mod for Max Payne looks amazing (at least in my opinion). Let’s also not forget the RTX Remix for COD: WoW. And then we have the RTX Remix Mods for the first and the second NFS: Underground games. Oh, and don’t forget to give a go at this RTX Remix for Unreal Tournament 2004. Finally, you can download Path Tracing Mods for Doom 2Quake, and Serious Sam.

Enjoy!

  1. Too dark at some scenes, need obvious readjustments. Never played old Tom Clancy games. Maybe after the mod is finished I will give it a try

    1. the mod's not for new players … its for players who has already beaten the game with default design

  2. It looks really cool. the problem is that a game that relies so much in light and shadows, changing theme would make incongruent moments. like in the reception area, where it is supposed to be pitch dark, but with path tracing the room is totally lit.

  3. I double down in my opinion about this mod, without adapting the stealth meter you are fcking up the gameplay. It maybe WIP but is also a Waste Of Time.

  4. "and if – the mod is complete, this may be the best way to re-experience this classic Splinter Cell game"

If you were not the biggest RT simp in the entire internet and if you had a bit of game design knowledge you'll know that baked lighting in SC is directly tied to gameplay mechanics and level design, any variation in the lighting system can lead to serious issues with AI's visibility, tweaking the lighting alone is absolutely not sufficient and will just break the game.

    1. nobody's forcing anyone to use this mod … but its an interesting one, adding to the game's revisit/re-experience value …
comparing the dev's vision vs simulated real life lighting and experimenting whilst you replay the game one more time … certainly ain't a bad idea and is certainly aimed at existing fans/players

      1. That’s not a matter of preference, the lighting in this game has a big influence on gameplay, for example if a dark area becomes bright because of new -potentially- more realistic lighting system the enemies won’t be able to see you because the game still thinks you’re in a dark area, which can create awkward situations, same goes for a bright area becoming dark.
That will be a matter of preference if the lighting had no effect on gameplay, this is not the case for any Splinter Cell game as dark environments are also “programmed” to hide your character, adding RTX on top of it without changing the game’s code will be pointless

        1. yea .. I know & get it … hence saying its more of an experimental mod for veteran players than for newcomers …
Like for example, me who was impressed with the lightning during its launch … I might revisit the game to check how much the then “realistic” lighting (according to me, when I was a kid) differs from an actual simulated lighting keeping in mind the awkward gameplay that may ensue

          1. I agree with you for the experimenting thing, i think in the end of the day that's what it's intended for.
In my OG comment i quoted this : "and if – the mod is complete, this may be the best way to re-experience this classic Splinter Cell game" which i ultimately disagree with because it's not "The best way" to replay the game with all the visibility issues, the author saw better lighting and immediately thought "dUh REmAsTeR" without thinking about for second about something else but graphics, which he does often

  5. aaahhh to experience splinter cell again for the first time….well at least we have ubisoft pulling it out of the dusty bin slapping some cheap make up on it and proceeding to violate it in every imaginable way to look forward to!!!…can't wait.

  6. I mod, in some way, pretty much every old game I can get my hands on, and I have yet to see any of these RTX mods other than the Max Payne demo that actually add anything of value to the game being modded. Most seem to just degrade the overall visual quality, and the ones that do manage to not make the game look worse don't really look much different than a decent reshade preset.
