THIEF feature

The Outer Worlds: Spacer’s Choice Edition and Thief are free to keep on Epic Games Store

Epic Games is currently offering for free The Outer Worlds: Spacer’s Choice Edition and the 2014 remake of Thief. Until April 11th, PC gamers can visit their EGS pages and acquire their free copies.

The Outer Worlds is a first-person RPG from Obsidian. Its Spacer’s Choice Edition features the base game and all DLCs. Private Division released the Spacer’s Choice Edition in March 2023, and at launch, that version had major performance issues. Not only that but the game suffered from both shader and traversal stutters.

For what it’s worth, Private Division did release some patches to improve performance. However, I haven’t really tested that version. But hey, you can now get it for free so you can see for yourselves whether or not it runs and looks better than its original version.

On the other hand, EIDOS Montreal reimagined the classic Thief game. Contrary to its take on the Deus Ex franchise, though, the Thief remake wasn’t that successful. The game had some performance issues at launch, and its enemy AI was not that great. Personally, I never really bothered with it. Something didn’t click with me when I tried it back in 2014.

Anyway, you can acquire your free copies from here and here.

Enjoy and stay tuned for more!

  1. Oh, Thief, too bad it was a spit in the face of consolized trash for the franchise. (heartbroken)
And i always wanted to try The Outer W0kes, will take the chance.

          1. I asked because I’m blocked by whoever you’re talking to and I had a feeling you’re talking to a black person.
Blacks love to steal other people’s stuff.

          2. Indeed, Im just pointing out you need the base game in order to play this fan made campaign.

          3. I just finished the campaign yesterday. Great stuff, rekindled my passion for the franchise, but at the same time dread because the original won’t measure to the raw quality of this mod. Ironic in a sense.

          4. I played some missions in Darkmod, but i don’t know if that’s my thing to be honest.

          5. Yeah its not everyones cup of tea. It was born out of the issue a lot of players had with the lackluster outing that was Deadly shadows. And when T4 came out it just further renforced TDM’s status. There was even a contest of sorts a long time ago by the T4 dev/publisher that included TDM, showing that they knew that wer knew how rubbish T4 in fact was.

        1. I might play it just to see what the fuss is all about. Always was a Thief 1 fan, didn’t like Thief 2 much tbh, and the 3rd one i have yet to play it.

  2. TOW was pretty forgettable though despite having some good systems and a smarter way for worlds that were smaller and more handcrafted then the procgen filler of SF. The intended message there in SF by bethesda as stated by them is to give the impression that space is boring and a waste, this is a message the ptb HAVE to push for reasons i won’t go into but suffice to say the lack of any real space exploration of any kind has a reason, similar to a whole continent likely full of resources, antarctica, that is somehow totally ignorned by nations, megacorps and such who can’t help their greedster shysterism normally.

These games are only free if you give them your info or data making them not really free just close to it. They could just put these up on trrents.

  3. Like most people I already own both of the above games, both on steam. TOW its dirt cheap and T4 was a joke of a game thats basically worthless, the “some perf issues” is an understatement, Eidos took a beloved game with well know control and gameplay mechaics and utterly f*ked it.

T1/2 are the versions to own and play, even T3 is better than T4 if your a diehard Thief fan. If you want a thief life experience on a modern engine, than go and download The Darkmod. Its completely free.

If you must have either TOW/T4, just pay the few £3 for T4 on GoG. And TOW:SC steam keys can be found for around £7. Imho we should NOT hand any money to Epic/Tencent telemetry infested platform.

    1. Are you high? Both of those games are being offered for free. Why are you suggesting we pay a single cent for those games when it is being offered for free?

      1. You not factoring the hidden cost/s of getting a game/s for free. And where possible and if I have the choice, I would prefer to own games in perpetuity and that don’t need an internet connection to work.

        1. “You not factoring the hidden cost/s of getting a game/s for free.”

Please enlighten me on the hidden cost of getting a free product.

“And where possible and if I have the choice, I would prefer to own games in perpetuity and that don’t need an internet connection to work.”

I know that there are risks with digital stores going under and uncertainty that you will keep your games, but that’s a problem with most online stores. I see my EGS “purchases” more as a means of backup in case of the game not being easily available in piracy sites, but they also offers multiplayer games for free, so that’s definitely an advantage if that’s your thing.

          1. Fair points, but Im still uncomfortable with the amount of EGS services that need to run in the BG and that need access to the internet.

          2. I’m not gonna pretend to know if EGS or any other app is sketchy or not towards my PC, because i really don’t know. If you have tangible examples of people screwed over because of it, let me know and i make a risk assessment.

        3. “I would prefer to own games in perpetuity”

Well, we will all die one day, and surely even hardware such as cartridges, hard drives will eventually fail, so ultimately there is no way to own things in perpetuity. Don’t read this as a defence of digital stores, just a bit of perspective.

          1. I have a lot of original physical copies of games, and those that are digital, I have archived to Bluray, they will last as long as they last.

          2. I used to archive on DVD’s, but those are less durable than hard disk and my PC’s don’t come with DVD drivers no more.

  4. lool

Hellblade 2 Confirmed to Run at 30 FPS on Xbox.

Aside from running on Unreal Engine 5, Slater-Tunstill, director for Hellblade 2, explained that locking the console versions of Hellblade 2 to 30 FPS made the experience feel more cinematic.

He did not specify if it was due to anything else, such as technical limitations of Xbox.”

  5. One of the few useful things John could do in this website, to announce free games. I said “could” because he is quite selective about it, for him it’s not about being useful for the people who visit this site everyday, just “how much clicks will i get”. Even when the same store announces 2 games for free, John often just makes a story about the most famous game, shameful.

    1. He knows what the majority wants and isn’t bullsh*ting around. Most people will pick AAA games for free over indie anytime. Few care about platformer#2585 or roguelike#5790 going free.

At least he doesn’t click bait his titles.

      1. lol, screw the majority, i’m not a pleb. Obscure games are better free offers precisely because it is more likely to disappear from pirate sites. That, or online games that are impossible to pirate.

“At least he doesn’t click bait his titles.”

You just said earlier that he only posts what the “majority wants” that’s click bait 101.

      2. I have yet to see the logic behind those that constantly complain about this site and the way it’s run yet they keep coming back here and participating and yes, contributing to the clicks in doing so.

        1. There is no logic really, i’ll just speak in the best interest of this website, for free. Don’t like tough love? Don’t care.

          1. That’s BS. I’ve explained this to you before. Your complaining has no effect on John in any way and doesn’t change anything that he does. What you do isn’t in the best interest of this site.

Also you’re confusing tough love with being a pest.

          2. It’s his choice if he doesn’t want to improve his site. And why should i be polite for someone who don’t want to improve? Would his site go under if he was more consistent in announcing free giveaways? At least i gave you my reasons, now you can continue complaining to me or gossiping to other users like the hypocrite you are.

          3. You finally admit that your constant complaining is pointless. That’s a step in becoming useful.

          4. I did? You mistook pointless with “on point”. You complaining about someone legit complaints that would improve the website is pointless, however.

        2. The only logic behind it is to keep on throwing mud at the site and owner.

I have a feeling that its part of a warfare companies sharing the same sector (pc /console/game news) are waging.

Many times its just uninspired slanderous defamation.

          It’s not working though.

          1. Are you accusing me of slander and being a shill for other companies? Show me the proof, liar!

    2. if you dont like how he runs the site why don’t you set up your own site and run it your own way instead of b*ching and moaning about the dumbest things.

      1. Anti-criticism criticism, ironic. If you don’t like my comment why don’t you make your own comment? So the logic goes.

  6. My brother suggested I might like this blog He was totally right This post actually made my day You can not imagine simply how much time I had spent for this info Thanks
