Modder ‘Safemilk’ is currently working on an RTX Remix Mod for Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines, and has shared the first screenshots for it. This mod will implement full Ray Tracing/Path Tracing to Troika’s RPG. So, let’s take a look at them.
This mod is in a very early development stage. However, Safemilk plans to provide a proper RTX Remix, with all its bells and whistles.
Alongside the Path Tracing effects, the modder also plans to improve the game’s 3D models and textures. And, the following screenshots, give us a taste of this.
Now I’ll be honest here. This sounds like a really ambitious project. Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines has a lot of different 3D objects and textures. As such, it will be really difficult for an individual to update all of them. Yes, there are AI tools so that you can improve the vanilla textures. However, creating new 3D objects is something that might take a lot of work.
So, while this mod looks interesting, I don’t really expect to see it hitting the Internet anytime soon – if at all. Still, it can give us a small glimpse at what a modern-day remaster of this classic RPG could have looked like.
In January 2023, we shared several RTX Remix Mods that are in the works. As such, you can take a look at screenshots and videos for Tomb Raider, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, Manhunt, and Garfield Kart RTX Remix. Last month, we also shared videos for Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas RTX Remix, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, Unreal, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 4 and Midnight Club 2.
Speaking of Path Tracing Mods for older titles, you might also want to check out the following ones. Modders have released early demos for their Path Tracing Mods for Tomb Raider, Max Payne and Call of Duty 4. Do note that the COD4 Mod is a “proof of concept” demo, and it does not look that great. On the other hand, the RTX Remix Mod for Max Payne looks amazing (at least in my opinion). Let’s also not forget the RTX Remix for COD: WoW. And then we have the RTX Remix Mods for the first and the second NFS: Underground games. Oh, and don’t forget to give a go at this RTX Remix for Unreal Tournament 2004. Finally, you can download Path Tracing Mods for Doom 2, Quake, Half-Life and Serious Sam.
Enjoy and stay tuned for more!

Looks like a good start, one of the best GoG’s.
Man, it’s been too long since my last playthrough of this masterpiece.
This got me curious to check whether people are able to play this gem running on Valve’s original Source engine on the Steam Deck:

Honestly, the dedication of the Deck’s community never ceases to amaze me…
💪
its not a masterpiece its a mediocre mess with terrible combat, balancing, awful sewer combat sections and a garbage last chapter, but credit where its due, it does nail the atmosphere and makes you feel like a vampire.
I think when people remember this game, they remember how great the Santa Monica portions of the game are. It definitely starts to lose it’s luster the deeper you go into it. I will always look on it favorably due to nostalgia though! Hopefully you’ll give the Safehouse a try when I can release it just for old time’s sake!
i played for the first time with the unofficial patch and the scary mansion section bugged up on me and the ghost was standing in front of me, i beat it and blood kept coming out but didnt die, then you got the horrible sewer section and the rest of the game sucks and its super linear.
Haha! That’s definitely not the ideal experience… Also yeah the sewer section is a bummer.
Oh nice! I may have to try that as well…
As with every other RTX “mod” I’ve seen, it completely ruins the mood. (the dinner exterior picture) And as usual, it’ll be too contrasted/too dark.
It’ll be an interesting alternative to try, but not a “definitive” experience.
Heya! Mod author here! Definitely well observed! These are some pretty early tests, one of the big things I haven’t done yet is balance the lighting. A few things go into it, one of them is just every individual point light and directional light etc. These are generated by RTX Remix, but you can go in and modify them. The other is materials reflectivity and Albedo, that can play a big factor in light bouncing around. The final is, up until the other day, I didn’t realize the skybox textures were tagged incorrectly! I tagged them as sky textures and they brightened up, I can then balance lighting against that!
To be totally fair to your comment though, I do intend to go for a more contrasted look, where light sources don’t flood fill the space like they do in the original.
Hopefully you can still enjoy it for what it is, even if I don’t hit the target you are imagining! But I’m definitely taking your feedback into account as I move forward! Wish me luck!
Damn, 5090 on pre-order now…
Looks to be a great start. I hope they keep that level of quality throughout.
Mod author here! I’ll do my best! There will be some things I just can’t fix, some models that are actually BSP brushes meaning I can only improve their textures and so on… Long term I’d like to do a full mod where I go in and remove brushes from the level and replace them with models and improve overall visuals.
Big limitation right now is that Remix doesn’t capture full bone hierarchies, so characters are going to be a blocker for now… I have Jeanette fully remodeled and textured from scratch… but Remix can’t import her properly! So she will just have to wait…
damn, seems the best thing about rtx will be using it on old games that are actually good.

Mod author here! Totally happened across this article on accident! Thank you so much for writing something nice about it! Wish me luck, I’ve got to balance this with a few other projects so I’m trying to burn through this proof of concept quick so I can do some bigger production planning around how to tackle the project as a whole! Thanks for looking at my work!
Side note! Just in case anyone is wondering, Remix comes with AI tools, I will NOT be using the AI tools. As a game dev artist, I like making the stuff using things like Zbrush, Substance Designer, Blender etc.
