The Borderlands Movie Trailer Is as Generic and Boring as It Can Get

Lionsgate has just released the first trailer for the upcoming Borderlands movie. And, to be honest, I was really disappointed by it. While the movie appears to have some big actors and actresses, it looks as generic and boring as it can get.

First things first. Lionsgate has miscast pretty much everyone. Don’t get me wrong. Cate Blanchett and Jamie Lee Curtis are incredible actresses. However, they look nothing like Lilith or Patricia Tannis. And look. I like Ariana Greenblatt. But, she doesn’t look anything like Tiny Tina. Fun fact. When I first saw her I was like “Okay, what character is this?

Then we have the awful writing and humor scenes. I’ve played Borderlands and I enjoyed most of the games. However, the “pisswash” scene made me cringe. The jokes in the trailer were those you’d expect to see 10 years ago. They feel old, dated, and – to be honest – they are not that funny. This feels so formulaic. In a way, it feels like a bad reskinned Marvel movie. And no, that’s not a good thing in my opinion.

The entire trailer felt so boring and generic. It was like I’ve seen this movie with a different cast. And let’s be real here. Did this make you go “Okay, this looks interesting. I’ll go to watch it at the cinema?” Because it didn’t for me. Sure thing, I might watch it when it hits streaming services. But that’s it.

Anyway, if you haven’t watched it yet, you can do so below. And now tell me that this got you excited!

    1. yes you mean the girlw witht he red her in the game Lilith is around 20 years old, right? But now i saw that the actress who will play in the movie is 50+. The others we will see.

  1. Your first mistake, was not going straight to the assumption that it was going to be hot garbage from the get-go.

Who honestly thought this movie was going to be handled even remotely properly? Well, I guess maybe John did. 😆

        1. I wouldn’t play borderlands by myself or for the story. it’s the 1st two games that are fun if you trying them with some buddies though durka durka.

          1. i hate the “its fun with friends” everything is fun with friends waiting at a bus station at night while raining kicking a plastic bottle on the ground is fun with friends, if story doesnt matter why does it have so many dialogues in it?

      1. wait… borderlands 2 is great but you think borderlands 3 is “””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””good””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””???
        WHAT???

  2. Yes, strip away the gameplay part from a series with cancer writing so that we’re left with the writing part.
    What a great idea

  3. The game itself was always generic and boring as far as I am concerned. Why would the movie be any different?

  4. but at least they didn’t gender / race swap or turned anyone of them characters into a LGBTQIA+++ Alphabet character…..right…….right??

  5. I honestly don’t get the hate for Borderlands (the game not the movie). I had a blast with friends when it came out. The DLC for it (especially Moxie’s hoard mode one) was so much fun to hang out online and just play games with my friends in the late evening.

While the writing became awful in the sequels (I can’t stand basing your entire identity around memes) the gameplay still remained enjoyable.

  6. Borderlands 1 is a terrible adaption and was a awful game. IMO they should’ve adapted Borderlands 2 with Handsome Jack as the main baddie

Everyone knows borderlands 2 was the best one. Sorry to say, this movie is gonna flop.

    1. might as well adapt the pre sequel first than. also I think borderlands would make a better cg movie. get the same group that made the mario movie to make it.

  7. This is just the game, so if this is bad.. so is the game or well, games. Borderlands 3 was… total cringe and trash, story wise at least. Fun to shoot around stuff.

  8. Antiquated actresses for a declining gaming franchise. Fits perfectly if you think about it. All of them trying to cash in on as much leftover fanfare before the rapidly arriving best before date, that many would argue has already arrived.

  9. >”As a man of culture, I like Ariana Greenblatt.”
    >Greenblatt is 16 years old

You got some explaining to do John.

    Also,
    >”However, the “p1sswash” scene made me cringe.”
Not surprising at all, given that it’s written and directed by a j3wish man and half the main cast are j3wish. They have a fixation with urin3 and f3c3s.

      1. Looks like you’ve revised what you wrote, good. “Man of culture” is a cope term that c00mers to upsell their disgusting themselves, so be wary when using that term.

        1. Meaning of “Man of Culture” -> A man of culture is one who appreciates art, music, fine food, and speaks well.

The reason I removed it from the sentence is because A LOT are using it in a different way. So yeah, they’d take it out of context to push their own narrative.

          1. Words take on new meanings pretty regularly as the years roll by. The generation before mine used the word “gay” to mean lighthearted and merry. I remember as a child my parents playing records with some Christmas
songs about being gay at Christmastime. It didn’t mean a*s bandit like it does now. Funny to think that I still hear those songs around Christmas even today but pretty rarely.

          2. lets all be honest here, on the internet “man of culture” is never used that way, lets not kid ourselves here, the term means you find said person sexy. Millions online use this comment every time there is a sexy youtube video or something sexy pops up in a video. its usually the highest rated comment too lol.

            john you fu**ed up.

  10. Cast is the worst I’ve ever seen, maybe except for the black guy, he looks fun. I don’t like Borderlands too much, just played the B3 (I don’t remember anything from it), but it’s interesting world and with fun’n’crazy scenario it can be great movie. I must admit, that the trailer made me laugh.

  11. Seems pretty desperate move to make a movie off a game thats last installment was years ago and pretty cringey at that, although they’ve milked it with all these side games etc I liked the first two but haven’t played them for years prob doesn’t stackup too well with all the better games in between. I mean in their day they were well loved and huge 1-2, easy to shoot holes in hindsight now, yeah SMB duck hunt is boring and generic NOW but not THEN.

    1. And talk about cheaping out, they could have done cel shading one of the series most distinctive things. Remember that old phillip k dick-steinberg book movie adaptation Scanner Darkly and it’s cel type shading etc

  12. Does anyone actually care what dumfuq John actually thinks? The brainless sh17 posting incel has proven time and again that he should just be ignored… much like how women ignore him.

  13. Ive played all 3 main games in SP mode, and while the movie is clearly set in the BL universe, only 3 of the characters have a passing resemlance to Claptrap, Firehawk and TinyTina. With Kate Blanchets character being the closest to the game. WTF are the others supposed to be..?

Thats said it will be something to watch when it hits streeming, so there is that. Beer and fast food here we come 🙂
