Crystal Dynamics has released a new artwork for its upcoming Unreal Engine 5-powered Tomb Raider game. This artwork gives us a glimpse at the re-designed model for Lara Croft. So, go ahead and take a look at it.
As we can see, the “new” Lara will wear her iconic outfit. This will definitely please a lot of TR fans. Moreover, she appears to be a mix between the reboot Lara and the Tomb Raider: Legacy Lara. In short, she does look like Lara Croft. And yes, her bazookas were slightly downgraded.
For those wondering, this was a members-only, exclusive artwork wallpaper from the official TR site. So yes, this is legit. Also, if you visit the official website, you’ll get this other artwork.
In 2022, Crystal Dynamics officially revealed this upcoming Tomb Raider game. Sadly, we don’t know much about it. What we do know is that it will be using Unreal Engine 5. We can also assume that it will only target current-gen consoles and PC. And no, there is no ETA on when it will come out. So, don’t expect to be playing it anytime soon.
Finally, I’ve also included below an older artwork from it. This artwork also has the T-Rex, so I had to share it with you. To be honest, this specific artwork feels more like a tribute to the classic game. As such, I don’t expect Lara to be fighting a big T-Rex in this upcoming Tomb Raider game.
A couple of days ago, Aspyr released remastered versions of the first three classic Tomb Raider games. I’ve already shared some comparison screenshots, so be sure to check them out. This remastered collection has been received well by fans. The collection has Very Positive Reviews on Steam, and it had a peak of 7K concurrent players.

Didn’t even pirate the damn games…..the little walkthroughs/reviews that I saw were more then enough to indicate how utterly irritating this new version would be.
The chances of the developers taking her back to her roots seem slim.

Aspyr developed it and embracer gave it the green light so supporting the remaster is actually a vote to not support CD
Money still goes to CD since they published it and are a partner company with Aspyr. Thats why I chose to sail the seas and mod out the stupid disclaimer.

Try reading a thing or two about game design. The original Lara Croft design is ridiculous. Plain and simple. It’s a borderline grotesque over exaggeration of a 13 year old’s wet dream from the ’90s. The ONLY reason that it worked at all was due to the crude nature of 3D rendering at the time. Even if the goal were to make a more realistic human character at the time, they simply could not. On the flip side, if you tried to create a Lara more representative of that original design in a modern game engine and setting, it would look completely preposterous. Even looking at the images you posted, she looks silly. John Carmack had to explain something similar around the time Doom 3 was launching. People were mad that it wasn’t a crazy run and gun human character moving at 60mph experience. He explained that as tech advances and rendering and world building improves, you have to change up your game design. A character that moves at such a high rate of speed in a world that was attempting to match CG movies in quality would create a huge mental disconnect. Same thing here. The Lara design you praise so highly would simply look weird and out of place in a modern game.

start with a fit non muscular woman
– add above medium size boobs
– add extremely small waist
– add an a*s of an athlete that does a lot of squatting, not big, somewhat muscular but still feminine
– add tall legs
– give her a feminine face, curvy looking chin and jaw, gentle eyebrows, feminine defined lips
– give her a brown looking hair with pony tail
and voilà you have lara croft! no matter what her outfit it will still be recognizable as the TOMB RAIDER

Considering the reaction crystal dynamics had and slapped on the front of the remaster that aspyr lovingly developed in order to sandbag the sales I don’t think I care what crystal dynamics is developing
I will however support aspyr and embracer for doing something CD has said time after time they refuse to do which is why I bought myself a copy and gifted another to a friend on steam.
