Dragon’s Dogma 2 may run with 60fps only on PC

According to some people who have played a preview build of Dragon’s Dogma 2, this upcoming action title may be locked at 30fps on current-gen consoles. So, if these reports are accurate, Capcom’s latest game will run with 60fps only on the PC.

For those wondering, Capcom hasn’t revealed yet the game’s console performance modes. However, back in November 2023, the team shared its official PC requirements.

These PC specs seemed a bit high, which may explain why the console versions could be locked at 30fps. For gaming at 2160i/30fps, Capcom recommended an Intel Core i7-10700 or AMD Ryzen 5 3600X with 16GB of RAM and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 or AMD Radeon RX 6700. Plus, these requirements were for the non-RT version of the game.

Now while Capcom listed 30fps in its PC specs, we’re certain that the game will have an unlocked framerate on PC. So, if these 30fps console rumors are accurate, PC gamers will be the only ones who will be able to enjoy it at 60fps.

NVIDIA has also revealed that the game will support DLSS 3 Frame Generation at launch. As such, PC gamers will be able to use DLSS (and most likely FSR) in order to boost their performance. The game will also have Ray Tracing effects (though we don’t have any details about them as of yet).

Lastly, the following screenshot has been circulating on the Internet for the past couple of days. These “leaked” PC requirements are fake.

Capcom will release Dragon’s Dogma 2 on March 22nd. The game will be also using the Denuvo anti-tamper tech at launch. Given Capcom’s history, though, we expect the Japanese team to remove it one or two years after the game’s release.

Stay tuned for more!

  1. Wow! 60 fps? That’s twice as fast as the human eye can see anyway according to the console gamers. I don’t know why I ever bothered to buy this 144 Hz monitor anyway?

    1. True, ever since the Steam Deck became my main gaming choice because of time constraints, I’ve adapted to 30 FPS for more demanding games.

The key for an enjoyable experience is framerate consistency.

As long as you can hit those 30 FPS regularly, you’ll get used to it eventually, like with most things in life.

Of course, overall I still prefer higher framerates, which is why I’m mostly playing less demanding titles anyway…

      1. 30 fps looks OK on a small device, but that’s only because it takes up much less of your field of view. If you are playing on a 27″ monitor or larger that is no longer the case and 30 fps is exceptionally jarring.

        1. Definitely, I’m always aiming for at least 60 FPS when gaming on desktop, just can’t really find the time to do so recently, since I usually aim for at least an uninterrupted hour when gaming there.

The Steam Deck allows me to game in quick bursts, which is why it has become my main gaming source over time.

      2. You should aim for 40FPS, which should be achievable for most games. It sits perfectly in between 30 and 60fps in terms of latency, so it’ll feel a lot more responsive and look a lot smoother.

        1. Thanks for taking the time to share that tip, even though I already knew about it.

Still, I’m sure there are others reading here who didn’t, so it’s always a good thing to repeat such knowledge.

And I was mostly thinking about UE5 when writing about demanding games, like Talos Principle 2.

Even though there were parts where I could even hit 60 FPS like the starting area, other places would cause severe stress for the Steam Deck, where even maintaining 30 FPS was a chore for it.

Hopefully AMD can finally get their act together and fix up the firmware of the Steam Deck, because there is one crucial bit that’s currently broken on their end…

          1. Funny you bring up Talos Principle 2, because I played around with a ton of settings before I finally settled on something. I found that in order to maintain 60FPS on my PC (Ryzen 5700X and RTX 3060 Ti) I just had to sacrifice too much in terms of visual fidelity. The foliage-heavy scenes were so demanding that in order to maintain a solid 60FPS I had to put all settings to low and set the render resolution to 720P.

On the other hand I could maintain 30FPS for the most part at 4K with DLSS quality (had to drop it to DLSS performance for some parts) with all settings maxed except global illumination and view distance set to the 2nd highest levels. Given how this is a slower paced game, and how amazing the visuals are at max settings (or even close to max), I decided to go with targeting 30FPS, even though I played the previous game at 120FPS. Playing with a controller also helped.

If I had a display that had adaptive sync I’d have accepted a fluctuating framerate but unfortunately I got my TV a couple of years before adaptive sync became standard in the TV space. In order to prevent screen tearing or stutter I have to maintain frame rates that are factors of 60 (or 120 if I drop the resolution to 1080p).

Anyway, for playing this on the Deck, I think there are INI tweaks that you can do that can drop the settings even further than what the in-game settings menu allows, so that could help you get a frame rate boost.

    2. Left 30fps over a decade ago, will never go back, not even for a slow paced game, it was and still is awful.

    3. Perhaps, but given how this is a faster paced action-oriented game, they really should aim to provide a minimum of 60FPS through both good optimization and good scalability settings for the PC version, i.e. giving the users the ability to change settings to the absolute minimum before it does game-breaking things.

      1. I respect everyone’s opinion here. Whether you play at 30, 60 or 100+ fps given as long as game is enjoyable without any bugs. And Considering Capcom I believe there won’t be any game breaking bugs at these standard fps.

        1. Ehh they’ve done sketchy things, mainly DRM related. Their most recent one is adding a horrible DRM back into a bunch of their old games for absolutely no reason. If I were you I’d wait a few months for patches and sales before picking up DD2.

          1. Yeah, the forced DRM and Mods drama was a bit odd move. Good thing that after backlash it got removed but they need to acknowledge that they should let people have fun instead of forcing unnecessary restrictions of genuine players

          2. If I remember capcom’s memo on the issue right, they only temporarily removed the enigma DRM in particular. They fully intend their older titles to have DRM protection so as soon as they find something else viable they’ll patch it into their games. If a company is already treating their paying customers like pirates, that just gives said customers the incentive to embrace the label and sail for the high seas. These suits are so out of touch it’s almost laughable.

    4. Come on now. 30fps sucks.

I am annoyed if a game menu is 30fps, let alone actual gameplay.

I am fine if a game is 720p or has 2D graphics.

But 30fps? No, get out. Even 16-bit consoles ran at 60 fps.

  2. Ouch.
Still very powerful ryzen 5900x/5950x and intel 12700k/12900ks, only to be able to run 60 fps at 1440p/4K-UHD? Even without ray traced global illumination mentioned.
That smells like bad optimization. Even if it is with ray tracing (cp 2077 path traced global illumination is more taxing and achieves more fps).

I don’t see the point of “demanding NPC-AI”. Much much more games have much more npcs running and an open world too.

    1. Dragon’s Dogma Dark Arisen was poorly optimized also. It has a 150fps lock but in lots of places in can’t even hit that cap because the engine only utilizes 2 cores to the max.

  3. Where are this even from ? There is no real source for the img, Is not on their official twitter, nor on the DD2 website, there is misspelling on performance on the image too lol.

Also the hyperlinks that should lead to the source are redirecting to this page. I’m gonna take this with a grain a salt for now.

  4. Of course it is, it’s Capcom. And fanboys will give the 60fps lock a pass. Just like they are giving Denuvo, Enigma DRM and Capcom’s anti-mod stance a pass.

At this point Capcom could take away these fans their firstborn and they would be like “that’s fair“.

Dragon’s Dogma was a mediocre game with very mediocre reviews.

Capcom makes a sequel that looks almost exactly like the first one except upgraded graphics, and suddenly the media pretends this is the next best thing since sliced bread.

So far 2024 has been a very poor year for gaming outside of Enshrouded which is actually half-decent.

    1. What 60fps lock? on pc? Read again, or just read.
There are plenty reasons to b*tch about Capcom, but there are no news about a capped framerate on pc.

  5. Lets be real, the game will probably have PERFORMANCE issues as it is the first RE Engine open world game; But that BS image, the requirements are already on Steam and the PEFORMANCE should make it obvious, why would anyone believe it is beyond me.

      1. MH Rise is not open world, big open areas sure but not world. Besides Itsuno said that it has no loading between dungeons, open world and cities.

      2. lol MH Rise is not open world, it has large areas sure but its not seamless like DD2, Itsuno already said it has no loading when you get in or off a city/dungeons, not to mention far more complex stuff like npc AI, physics, etc.

  6. If you want to run current games at more than 30 fps, you have to get a pc. It is always going to be this way.
