Persona 3 Reload released, and it’s already the biggest ATLUS launch on Steam

SEGA has just released Persona 3 Reload on PC and it appears that in just a matter of hours, this game became the biggest ATLUS launch on Steam.

In just a few hours, Persona 3 Reload had a peak of 42K concurrent players. That’s the highest number of players that have simultaneously played an ALTUS game. So, this remake of Persona 3 is off to a great start.

Persona 3 Reload is a cool remake of the old RPG from 2016. The developers have jazzed it up for today with better graphics and gameplay. It, more or less, looks identical to Persona 5 Royal. So, you kind of know what you can expect from it visually.

This is also the second game powered by Denuvo that sells well. A few days ago, SEGA also released Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth. This new Yakuza/Like a Dragon game also uses the Denuvo anti-tamper tech. And as we’ve reported, it was the biggest Ryu Ga Gotoku launch on Steam. So, apparently, a lot of PC gamers don’t really care about the DRM that a game uses (provided it’s a good game).

Persona 3 Reload currently has Overwhelmingly Positive Reviews on Steam. Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth also has Very Positive Reviews on Steam.

Persona 3 Reload does not seem to require a high-end PC. For getting 60fps at 1080p/High Settings, SEGA recommends using an Intel Core i7-4790, AMD Ryzen 5 1400 with 8GB of RAM and an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 or AMD Radeon R9 290X. In theory, if you can already run Persona 5 Royal, you’ll be also able enjoy Persona 3 Reload.

We’ll most likely won’t have a PC Performance Analysis for this game. As said, it appears to run smoothly on a wide range of PCs. However, if we get reports about any performance issues, we might take a look at it.

Stay tuned for more!

  1. (TLDR at the bottom)

Let’s see, visually, it’s finally up to speed with a ps4 game at best, while looking inferior to the original in some areas. Like their headquarters for example. In the original it had a dark and moody atmosphere while in the remake they completely ruined it by adding nonsensical lighting to make everything overly bright. But hey, apparently you get ray traced reflections on certain reflective surfaces should your hardware support it. Hooray. Oh, and the menus are full of visual clutter now because apparently it’s stylish to make the UI look overly busy.

They added full voice-overs for pretty much everything, which is nice. Congrats to Atlus for catching up to what western RPG games have been doing for two decades. If only other Japanese studios would do this for their games as well…

Gameplay wise it still looks like it’s turn based, so not much changed there, apart from some extra mechanics maybe. And the main dungeon is still fully procedurally generated, just like the original, so it’ll probably still be a chore to trudge through. Would it have killed them to hand-tailor some sections? They did that for Persona 5 and that was a much better game because of it.

Content-wise, the game neither has the option to pick a female main character like the PSP version did, nor does it include The Answer, which was new story content that was part of Persona 3 FES on PS2. Rumour is, this’ll come as DLC in the future. Cutting out content from an old game to sell it later. Wonderful, greed strikes again.

And then there are changes for “modern audiences.” Considering this is a full-on remake which includes changes to even the 2D animated cutscenes, expect some of that. For example:

I’m sure walking around with those kinds of pins were all the rage amongst high-schoolers in 2009 Japan. 🙄 I bet they compromised the hilarious scene on the beach as well to protect the fee-fees of the suicide squad. Lord knows what other parts of the game they’ve compromised for the thin-skinned.

And as the article states, the game does indeed come with denuvo. I needn’t say more.

TLDR – Yet another completely pointless remake. While the remake has new visuals, fully voiced content, and some gameplay changes, the visuals are still outdated by about a decade, UI is needlessly crowded, gameplay and dungeons are mostly similar to the original, content has been cut to be sold separately, revisions were made for “modern day sensibilities,” and denuvo DRM is included. And they have the gall to charge 70 USD for this. You’re better off just emulating the PS2 version of FES at 4K or whatever and inserting fancy visual effects using Reshade. The original still holds up due to its art style, so no need for this newer version.

The good news is that it is on gamepass, so if any of you have subscribed to that you can at least try the remake out from there to see how it is.

    1. i never played any of these games because they looked gay as sht. If i do which is the best version of each game to emulate?

      1. Yeah I don’t blame you for thinking that way, I’ve more or less outgrown anime myself. I only played Persona 3 FES a long time ago on my PS3, which was the digital copy of the PS2 version. I don’t know much about the PSP version outside the fact that you get to choose between a male and female protagonist, which does have the effect of who you can romance, and I think it also doesn’t include The Answer epilogue. So I would say emulate P3FES. There are HQ texture patches that you can apply to it too.

          1. lol it sure does. Even playing it all those years ago I thought the main character looked an absolute emo bundle-of-sticks.

      2. Persona 2: Eternal Punishment

        Persona 2: Innocent Sin

Do not bother with the 1st, 3 and 4 are boring and geh as you said.
