Tomb Raider 2 RTX Remix Path Tracing-1

Tomb Raider 2 looks insane with RTX Remix Path Tracing

Last week, we shared some RTX Remix screenshots from the first Tomb Raider game. And today, we have some new screenshots to share from Tomb Raider 2 with full Ray Tracing/Path Tracing effects.

Created by YouTube’s ‘skurtyyskirts’, these screenshots will give you a glimpse at what its upcoming RTX Remix promises to deliver. And, like the screenshots for the first Tomb Raider game, these are based on the NVIDIA RTX Remix Runtime that came out last year. So, in theory, the game will get even better once NVIDIA releases RTX Remix in Open Beta. That will happen tomorrow, and we can’t wait for it.

In these screenshots, the modder showcased the Global Illumination effects that Path Tracing brings to the table. We can also easily spot the improved reflections and shadows. And the way the advanced lighting interacts with Lara is truly amazing.

Aspyr Media will release next month remastered versions of the first three Tomb Raider games. These remasters will not use any Ray Tracing or Path Tracing effects. However, Aspyr has made some improvements to their graphics. So, gamers will be able to enjoy these classic Tomb Raider games in two completely different ways in 2024. One will be via a paid remastered collection that is closer to the original games. The other will be via these free RTX Remix Mods that will bring major lighting improvements to them.

Now as with most of the RTX Remix Mods we’ve shared, this mod is not yet available to the public. So no, you can’t mod Tomb Raider 2 to make it look like this. At least not yet. As soon as these mods hit the Net, we’ll be sure to let you know.

Speaking of Path Tracing Mods for older titles, you might also want to check out the following ones. Earlier this month, we shared some incredible RTX Remix screenshots for Dark Messiah of Might and Magic and GTA Vice City. Modders have also released early demos for their Path Tracing Mods for Max Payne and Call of Duty 4. And then we have these Path Tracing Mods for Doom 2QuakeHalf-Life and Serious Sam.

Have fun and stay tuned for more!

  1. im so excited for this new version of rtx remix .if it works i dont need new games for a while .old games with path tracing and polishing is better than new games to me .

  2. Wow superb blog layout How long have you been blogging for you make blogging look easy The overall look of your site is magnificent as well as the content

  3. The official Tomb Raider I-III Remaster without raytracing looks great.

But this raytracing modder garbage, looks terrible.

Every raytraced game looks like it’s a damp rainforest with harsh oversaturated light bleeding and bloom everywhere.

Raytracing and HDR sucks. It just looks horrendous.

  4. There’s going to be so many versions of these old Tomb Raider games…
I feel like the RTX technology is really unneeded though.
I’ve seen screenshots of the upcoming remasters and it looks way better than this.
Not everybody wants realistic lighting, or anything realistic, in fact.
Lots of these old games had charm thanks to their unique aesthetics, which will be completely ruined by RTX.

RTX is great on NEW games.
So far, I have never kept any RTX “add-on” for any old game.
For example, the one for Half-Life. If I want something more realistic, I’d rather play Black Mesa then.

Besides, I hate so much the mix of old low-poly models with realistic lighting, like that stupid Minecraft thing.
If you want realistic TR2, the unfinished “The Dagger of Xian” is still the best choice.

But personally, except for those who are very nostalgic, I think the remasters will be the ultimate versions. If they can be modded, so much the better. Can’t wait for the release.

      1. Ha! That picture is older than time, but it was from a time when seemingly only blind clueless degenerates would do awful HD texture mods. It’s no longer the case for years, and especially now with AI upscaling.
Though I’m 100% with you in that you just can’t slap “too HD” textures to “too low” poly games. I’m still waiting for higher poly mods or a remaster/remake for Thief 1-2 and Soul Reaver for example for that reason.

  5. The official Tomb Raider I-III Remaster without raytracing looks great.

But this raytracing/HDR looks terrible. The incredibly harsh lighting literally makes it look like some bomb went off. Raytracing and HDR makes everything look ridiculous.

People with these HDR TV blinding themselves have a mental disease.

Why do some people think this looks good? Can we do some psychological evaluations on the large cohort of weirdos thinking this looks good.

    1. I also would like to know if there is an overlap between people who think raytracing and HDR looks good and people who wear crocs.

      1. I actually love RT on old games (never had HDR monitor though, so didnt have anby comment on that), there is some ecstatic feeling of seeing old low polygonal model and texture with a realistic lighting, its like toys come to life. But of course Im not wearing crocs btw ( its too expensive for me ..lol), sandal or cheap regular flip flop are the way to go …

  6. These old games are more about art style, at this point, then anything and any updated versions are usually unoptimized hw hogs, the only thing that they offer is the modern cameras and controls. They’re so old they’ve got tons of mods that do better what they want to charge you for by the companies. I don’t see much that’s amazing here just some fancy overdone lighting just to show it for screenshots and articles so nah. It’s been a while since I’ve even played the reboots from the last decade which are still decent looking games with mostly modern qol etc, looks like an ip cash grab to me similar to justar and others.

  7. It was great seeing how much work you put into it. Even though the design is nice and the writing is stylish, you seem to be having trouble with it. I think you should really try sending the next article. I’ll definitely be back for more of the same if you protect this hike.

  8. I loved even more than you will get done right here. The picture is nice, and your writing is stylish, but you seem to be rushing through it, and I think you should give it again soon. I’ll probably do that again and again if you protect this hike.
