Ex-Rockstar dev miserably fails at explaining why GTA6 can’t come out on PC alongside PS5 & Xbox Series X

Mike York, a former Rockstar employee who has worked on both Grand Theft Auto 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2, has tried to explain why GTA6 cannot come out on PC alongside its console versions. And his explanation is what everyone has already predicted. A pile of mere excuses and nothing more.

York claims that Rockstar needs more time to polish the PC version because there are a lot of different PC configs in comparison to consoles. He also claimed that since the PC is more powerful, it will allow Rockstar to add more stuff to it.

Let’s start with the first part of this. A few days ago, Ubisoft released Avatar: Frontier of Pandora on multiple platforms. This game features a huge world to explore, is one of the best-looking games, and runs incredibly well on PC. Let that sink in. Ubisoft can release a polished game on consoles and the PC but somehow Rockstar can’t?

Hell, here is a better example. Earlier this year, Deep Silver released Dead Island 2. Dead Island 2 was in development hell for a few years. However, Dambuster Studios was able to develop old-gen and current-gen versions of it. And yes, the PC version came out alongside its console cousins. Dambuster basically developed five versions simultaneously. You’re telling me that Rockstar, with all its resources, can’t compete with Dambuster? Come oooooooon.

As for Rockstar adding new features to the PC version… what happened to the Ray Tracing effects of GTA5? Why they aren’t available on PC? PCs are more powerful than consoles yet we don’t have Ray Tracing. What’s the excuse for that? Riiiiiiiiiiight.

And I get it. York is being a diplomate here, trying to praise his former studio. After all, he won’t bite the hand that fed him. However, we’re so fed up with PR statements and lies. No dear York, Rockstar is not delaying the game on PC to further polish it. They’re delaying it so that they can increase their revenue. They are delaying it to have another marketing campaign in two years. Because they know people will double dip. That’s the truth, whether you like it or not.

So dear devs, if you don’t want us to call out on your lies, then please keep your mouth shut. We all know how things work. The excuse for the “complicated PC configs” would fly in the 90s. It’s not valid in today’s age though. A lot of smaller studios have developed and released games on consoles and PC, and they run great on PC.  If those studios can, then surely Rockstar can. Unless there is another reason preventing them. And we all know that reason (money money money money).

Finally, don’t even dare to bring up the games that came out this year on PC with performance issues. These games were EVEN WORSE on consoles. Star Wars: Jedi Survivor, Immortals of Aveum and The Lord of the Rings: Gollum were awful on PS5 and Xbox Series X at launch. So, you can’t use them as examples. Not when their console versions look and run worse than their PC versions!

Why Does the PC version of a game take so long to come out?

      1. if i come to your house and pull my pants down over your food and started taking a sht, would you be “hey why are you taking a sht on my food?” No? Yes? Then i am gonna be like “how do you know its sht, its not even out yet?

      2. There are a lot of countries where woman can’t go to university or work because it is forbidden by religion. People from those countries don’t understand that woman can work at IT.

Those girls are smarter than anyone from those countries where education is based on religion instead science

        1. in tech finding women who are actually good at their job and are not hired as affirmative action is really hard. There is a reason why twitter looks so male after elon musk hired all the dead weight. Most of the jobs in tech are fake. Not an insignificant amount of those women in tech are trans, which is why they crashed a con that was meant to promote women in tech and get them jobs by having men identifying as non binary.

          1. I mentor STEM students in 3 local high schools and a community college and the girls are much easier to teach, more focused, and considerably more mature than the boys. They are much better at abstract thinking and that gives you an edge in both engineering and computer programming especially at the early learning stages (12-18)

          2. By teaching them about electronics and computers at the hardware level.

Arduinos and STM32 MCUs and Raspberry Pi SOCs are excellent teaching tools because they have so much documentation and are extremely affordable

One of the biggest problems we have and why bugs are so prevalent in software is we stopped teaching programmers how CPUs and MCUs work at the hardware/register level.

          1. I don’t know if she counts tbh, she is a decent writer but i was thinking in terms of programmers and people who make code in general.

    1. tranees mostly probably. They could have done that shot a lot closer but you know probably too easy to see for those who can.

    2. That pic looks weird, like those gals where photoshopped. In any case, It’s been 20 years of Rockstar doing the same thing with PC ports, so you can’t really blame wokeness for this time.

  1. Although the PC version of GTA 6 will be the foundation for a 10th-gen console release, the primary purpose is to get players to double dip.

    1. Yep this is why. They got me with GTA V but I am not falling for that sh*t again. I can wait. I have so much other stuff to play. Hell I bought GTAV at release and never finished it on PS4 or PC.

          1. I have a lot of my steam library installed, maybe 350~ of my 500+ steam games (I have over 150 games in a custom steam category called Useless, those I don’t bother installing) and that doesn’t count my massive collection of non-steam games I put on my steam for easy access, some 200+ games, probably more than that. I had to buy a console priced extremely fast and large external drive and it’s TB got filled up to the point that I had to buy more external drives, I’m up to 7 medium to extra large external drives now, am considering an 8th extra large one, and they are all mostly filled up (granted most are not all are used for gaming.) I almost never have to wait for a download to play any game (exception is updates,) plus it’s awesome having entire series of games on Steam at the quick click of a button. And the best part is that the drives are so fast that the games load just as quick as they do when installed on drive c. lol

          2. So let me get this straight, jack asks me how many gigabytes and you go ahead and downvote me for sth i replied to another guy and you go on a TLDR rant about ur steam library? What kind of fked mentality is that lmao

            Holy sht that’s stpd af

          3. as someone who used to download and store games I took a look at what I was doing and started asking why. literally no reason as you can download games at any time as many times as you want. all you’re doing is giving someone money so you can store data that someone is doing for you, for free…

you have a sickness and need help.

          1. You’re assuming things bud. One of them is “buying”.

The word you’re looking for is collection.

          2. i knew you’re gonna be one of those idiots, hahaha! I’m not stealing from anyone you mron, they are available for the public to take with no repercussions.

          3. sounds to me like you have a problem with ppl and assuming things no matter what they say. You’re one of those trolls that has to say sth just for the heck of it. Give it a break averagejoe. Just go about your business and let sleeping dogs lie.

The proverb means avoid interfering in a situation that is currently causing no problems but may well do so as a result of such interference, meaning you!

    2. ..and to cash in on current gen consoles. let some time pass, ppl forget about it and they’ll double down on PC as well. Some will be just curious to see what their graphic card can pull. Capitalism.

    3. Not me hell no, I’ll just torrent it like I did GTA V as I don’t give a sh*t about the online part. Rockstar along with Take-Two can shove buying it twice up their asses🤣

  2. Sounds like a typical cope found on steam forums.
Why are you triggered by this guy if he’s an ex developer anyway?

    1. I don’t think that’s what it is, he just told the truth. Nowadays, these excuses without any logic are no longer valid. The only thing stopping Rockstar from launching simultaneously across platforms is the money involved. However, people prefer to believe the former Rockstar employee who clearly wouldn’t tell the truth about this part. Anyway, if Rockstar doesn’t have the financial resources to develop a PC version alongside the consoles, then the other companies/developers are gods, as they have less resources than Rockstar and yet they launch simultaneously.

  3. Here’s a screenshot from the leaked alpha build I found online which hasn’t been compressed to total garbage:

    https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/e9a0953ec19d8bc4022750e7aca6ac9601282e9a677af03377aa95d3fd68c4c9.png

If you look closely into the top right corner, you can see that it’s running on a NVIDIA RTX 2080 Super via DX12, so of course a PC build is their very first target platform, like every other game out there.

Once they got it up and running on PC, the really hard part of the development process is to get the game performing somewhat decently on the consoles.

I’d imagine the Xbox Series S platform is the one Rockstar will enjoy working on the most! :-]

  4. The consoles are basically PC’s now anyway, Using the same sort of hardware and not some complicated chip like we seen with Cell processor in the PS3.
I don’t see how it would take so long to optimise for PC, But I’ll take their word if they are indeed adding more eye candy to the PC version, Making use of higher end hardware even if it is only for small percentage of market.
I think it’s more of a double dip approach and see if they can sell multiple copies to the same people.

    1. Nah, they would have had about 10 years plus 2 more from now till 2025 to implement anything extra, it’s not that.

  5. Double dip or not, but you can’t compare R*’s newer PC ports up with others like ubisoft. The sheer scale and amount of details it boasts with lower requirements & without any bugs surpasses consoles already. I’m sure the PC version will look great and run great in 2026

  6. Honestly now that I have seen the trailer… and it fed my curiosity. I don’t even care when the pc version comes. Considering the game isn’t even out till 2025… i can easily just shut my mind off about the thing. In the end, it’s just another open world game doing the same things you have done in countless other open world games. Sure there will be lots of extra most games don’t have. But in the end… it’s still the same drive somewhere, do mission and drive to the next one game we have all played countless times but with a new coat of paint. whatever

  7. Its all in the business plan which is really how sad Rockstar has become.

Sell console version (PC gamers will buy it) – sell PC version 12-16 months later and get double sales – Release on PS6 and get some more sales.

    1. It’s also a business cost decision, they can use 200 people instead of needing 300 people to develop concurrently.

Remember a bunch of old greedy White Guys run Rockstar and Take Two Interactive and they don’t care about anything but mo’ money …..

If you want to know what a company is really all about then research who their CEO’s and Presidents are …. 9 times out of 10 you’ll find an over 50 White Guy ……

99% of business failures are caused by bad management NOT bad workers

          1. Reducing it to just the colour of skin is beyond stupid because then you’re also making the argument that East Asians are the same as White people. Black people and Australian aboriginals have dark skin, but they’re very different genetically. Same goes for jews and Whites. Sure, some look white because they have European admixture but they still have jewish blood. Not to mention they get rhinoplasty and dye their hair to blend in even more. I’ve met several jews IRL over the years and almost all of them have physical features (mainly facial features) that give away the fact that they are unmistakably jewish. Their behaviour and manner of speaking follow certain trends that also give away their jewishness.

          2. All humans are 99.9% genetically similar and the remaining 0.1% is mathematically and realistically irrelevant ……

Blood and bloodlines are archaic and superstitious thinking and really need to be abandoned in the 21st Century. Your blood or bloodline makes you no different from everyone else and it’s delusional thinking to believe otherwise

It’s your thought and actions that make you who you are and nothing else. If you act like a sh*tty person then you are a sh*tty human being no matter your blood or bloodline

          3. Ethnic Iranians (Persians) are considered to be Caucasian. In fact the Caucasus region where the name Caucasian comes from is right across the northern border of Iran/Persia

          4. You are 100% Right. They don’t identify as white because they want special treatment. That’s why they stole a religion and culture. I find it quite funny because none of them are of Hebrew blood. Instead they are jew-ish:(sorta jew) haha. The Israelis are currently blowing up the real Jews in Palestine. They can identify all they want, the truth is it’s basically like stolen valor. It’s like me being black saying, “I’m not black, I’m Christian”. Better yet, Christian-ish. Gods chosen Lunatics is what they are.

      1. That’s the point though, they’re not working against different architectures now, just x86.
You don’t need 100 more devs to work on another iteration of the game because they’re all the same build effectively with graphics settings tweaked.

Ultimately they’re working from a PC build backwards for console this time around.

This is pure greed from T2.

        1. My point (which most people missed because they let their emotions get in the way of their reason) is it is just a way to increase profits and the amount saved in manpower costs far exceeds the “double dipping” sales profits …..

The double dipping argument is only a fraction of the true story. Labor is your single largest cost of producing nearly everything. Cut your labor costs by 50% and you increase your profits by nearly as much. No where close to 50% of consoles users are going to also buy the PC version so those profits will pale in comparison.

        2. That argument clearly doesn’t exactly stand up though. If that were the case then we’d be looking at a majority of A+ PC ports that run well from day one. Instead it’s been an all time low the last couple years of games launching on PC in anywhere NEAR acceptable quality. Saying the consoles are x86 architecture just like PCs so cross development is easy is the same as saying iPhones and Android devices both run on 64 bit chips so cross app development should be easy. As most people know, that could not be further from the case. And considering Rockstar’s pretty strong track record of releasing games in a MOSTLY “ready to go” state even in the era of “launch now, patch later” it’s not really a surprise to me that they’d continue to adopt a sequential all hands on deck approach to finalizing the console builds then finalizing the PC build. Rather than potentially sabotaging one build or the other by splitting the workforce. It comes off as odd today because it really is an old school approach to game development but it’s worked for them. Their products are quality on day one so I dunno…

    1. Reminds me of the division and watchdog case where console manufacturers paid Ubisoft to keep the PC version “in line” with the consoles so it won’t overshadow them

    2. Nah, no one would be surprised if PC has some extra flair for top end hardware next to 5 y/o consoles by then.
It’s just their business plan of dodging losses to PC piracy and double dipping.

    3. The average PC gamer is still using a 1060 or 1050Ti according to Steam.

Most PC gamers have been completely priced out of the market and are not upgrading. This also partially explains the rise in popularity of games that run on potato PC. Indie, 2D, cozy games, etc.

The new PS5 Pro leaks show it will have performance similar to a 4070. This easily destroys 99% of gaming PC on Steam’s hardware survey.

Unless PC hardware becomes drastically cheaper next year, and a 4070 becomes a $200 card instead of a $600 card, the average PC gamer will be 2 to 3 generations behind console performance and will be lucky if their PC can keep up with the Switch 2.

        1. “Low” settings on many modern games (especially Unreal Engine 4 and 5 games) don’t actually get you a huge boost in FPS. That’s why the minimum required these days is often an RTX 3060, and that’s with temporal upscalers like DLSS and FSR 2. Game developers these days are mostly out of touch, and have no idea what they are doing.

          1. That “criteria” is usually if they know that person or if they’re related to someone they know.
Cronism and nepotism is rampant in these companies.
It’s how people like Sam Maggs get a job.

          2. This might be true for Unreal Engine, but Rockstar has their own in-house engine called RAGE (Rockstar Advanced Game Engine).

And at least their latest title, namely Red Dead Redemption 2, can scale quite well.

For example, here’s how it ran on the Steam Deck with an older SteamOS 3.4 branch with optimized settings:

            https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/b9a143e006c42e972a5fcde66d3b93729b62d614cafb823b6d6f01c44c0b1bd8.jpg

Keep in mind that the Steam Deck is actually slower than most low-end PCs, hardware-wise.

Granted, it’s running on the more performant Vulkan renderer, which GTA6 will most likely lack, but at least on Linux we will be able to translate the DX12 API calls to Vulkan, thanks to VKD3D-Proton.

So we will have to wait to see how well GTA6 is going to scale on different configurations, but at least their track-record so far is pretty solid.

(Of course, except for that infamous GTA4 PC port, but that one is also fixed thanks to the work Valve is putting into DXVK.)

          3. Shilling for Vulkan again I see. D3D12 is better in most games BTW. RDR2 is just an odd case where it performs better in Vulkan, probably due to differences in shaders (the two API’s have their own shader languages).

As for RDR2, I’ve never perceived it as running extremely well, so I don’t consider it a good example of Rockstar’s ability to get a modern game running well on low end hardware (especially since the PC version is more than 4 years old at this point). Maybe they can pull it off, but I doubt it. Game devs these days seem to think that DLSS and FSR 2 are a replacement for low graphics settings that allow games to run at reasonable FPS on medium to low-end systems.

          4. Depends on the dev’s really, many good dev’s get insane scaling across the entire range from toasters with a display to smoking high end rigs while some don’t know or bother to do it properly.

Already knew scalers would be used as an excuse to drop the bar lower. Frame generation will do the same yet again… with the added input latency it creates as well. Immersive high fps gaming with low input latency is something the kids at this rate will ever know…

Heck some of the m0r0ns even defended 30 fps as good enough in fast paced shooters lmao

      1. The average PC gamer will be 2 to 3 generations behind console performance and will be lucky if their PC can keep up with the Switch 2.

        About the Switch 2:

I’ve heard it will feature 1536 CUDA cores from the Ampere generation.

For comparison, even a RTX 3050 has 2048 CUDA cores, so don’t expect any miracles from the next Switch generation.

        1. And the 1536 CUDA cores on a Switch will be weaker than 1536 CUDA cores on a dedicated graphics card because of TDP limitations of an APU plus these will need to be even more power efficient so will be nerfed even more so you get decent battery life

Nothing trumps the Laws of Physics, especially not Wishful Thinking ……

      2. No, the average pc gamer doesn’t use 1050 or 1060. Almost half of the entire population of steam uses Turing/Ampere/Lovelace. Half. 50% The other half who shows with low end cards are not participating in purchasing AAA games and all that stuff, they’re asian net caffees or people playing dota/counter.

        1. And here we go, do you think me, or my friends buy AAA games to our work puters etc? They do count when you log into steam.

Hint – Some analytical clarity would do you good when interpreting the numbers and what they represent!

          1. You probably thought you’re saying something here, but you’re not. We’re not talking about the computers woldwide, from office buildings. Clearly we’re talking about what’s available on steam, because that’s what your stats are from as well. Instead of talking back nonsense, admit you havent been keeping up to date with the latest steam surveys, nothing wrong with that, and learn something new. Its a good thing. So no, most people dont have a 1060, hat was always a single digit percent ownership anyway. Near half of steam has RT and DLSS capable cards. They’re the ones buying new games anyway, not the ones with 1050s and 1650s. So the AAA consuming PC audience is well equiped and in massive quantities

      3. Yeah, got an 90 and also an work laptop with steam installed – Guess what both count and i know several peeps who have several puters tied to their steam account and they all count so to not take the steam hw survey seriously is just a sign of an analytical mind – Take it at face value is the direct opposite…

  8. Holy ****. Epic just beat Google in court and Google was called a monopoly by a Jury.

This will have far reaching consequences for other app and game stores.

Jury decides Google has illegal monopoly in app store.

Epic Games said, “Today’s verdict is a win for all app developers and consumers around the world. It proves that Google’s app store practices are illegal and they abuse their monopoly to extract exorbitant fees, stifle competition and reduce innovation.”

    1. Yeah, it will affect Apple, too.

But if you are hoping that this is going to break Steam:

No, it won’t, because Steam doesn’t actively block any competitor from its platform.

      1. Epic started EGS store in the first place because they were feeling threatened by the encroachment of the Microsoft with the windows store, not because of steam.

        1. And Valve made SteamOS because of fear of MS becoming a walled garden. People are right to be leery of what MS intentions are. Back in 1998 they were called before a Congressional Hearing on charges of being a monopoly by the US Dept of Justice. The judge ruled against MS but the verdict was later overturned in appeals.

MS has a corporate culture of anti-competitive business practices that goes back for decades and that is why regulators fought their acquisition of Activision Blizzard. I think this will be MS last attempt at really large acquisitions but I don’t trust them for a second to not try some more sh*t somehow.

          1. Or the Sony money bags in their pockets weighting the decision. Nobody can really tell, only speculate

          2. Yeah, on consoles the MS monopoly situation is basically reversed yet Sony that have a greater market share got the preferred treatment. It’s a hard case thoo due to double (almost) monopolistic companies meet on different markets.

Wouldn’t be that surprised if Sony actually put some under the table considering they are the market leader in consoles and can buy companies left and right without even a question from the so-called law but when the competition does its stonewalling. Don’t get me wrong – MS are yet another scummy company just like Sony… just strange one got green light for everything…

      2. Yeah, it will affect Apple, too.

Yep. I don’t know how much Apple now makes from services (ie. app purchases, games, microtransactions, etc), but it is a large part of their revenue stream nowadays.

No, it won’t, because Steam doesn’t actively block any competitor from its platform.

No, but this ruling will protect DRM-free alternatives like GoG.

        1. No, but this ruling will protect DRM alternatives like GoG.

Which I agree with that it’s a very good thing!

Even I prefer to buy from GOG whenever possible.

        2. We will see, there is a key difference between Google and Apple (+Console makers) thoo that could save them from a similar verdict. They make their own hardware to use exclusively with their software where google doesn’t.

That said I think 30% is scummy from any online store with todays transaction and cdn cost. And sadly, even worse from my preferred Steam… why? Because how much hardware / os costs etc does steam foot the bill toward? On consoles part of that cut goes to lower the hardware prices… in googles case some goes to the os development. What does steam do beside a great store and count the money?

    2. Nothing will change, at least not for the near future as this will be appealed, and the verdict stayed until the appeal which will be likely 2 years for now …..

    3. Google has a monopoly in more than app stores.
If anything it has less of a monopoly than Apple there due to third party stores being avaiable on Android out of the box.

Google had a monopoly with Youtube for example and search engines as well since the majority of search engines use their results.
A big exception to this is the Russian search engine Yandex.

  9. The real reason that the PC version will be delayed is the same reason that Rockstar delayed the PC version of GTA V. To rake in hundreds of millions of USD more from double dippers.

Their reasons of needing time to add more stuff to the PC version and polish it more are only to tempt gamers that own a PC gaming rig and a console that have already bought GTA VI and played it on console to buy it again on PC for the superior gaming experience. This was all planned in advance years ago and even the PR horse sh*t today was scripted back then.

This game release plan is designed to snare tens of millions of double dippers and they won’t all be PC gamers. Many will be console only gamers that will buy it a second time when the nextgen consoles arrive and the upgraded GTA VI arrives for those consoles.

It will work again for Rockstar but it’s going to have to be something really special to reach GTA V revenue of around 8 billion USD and around 190 million units sold. Time will tell.

  10. Don’t care if I have to wait a decade, I just want a good port (no stutters).
If avatar frontiers of pandora can do it, along with its graphical fidelity and open world, every other game no longer has any excuse.

  11. Real reason is piracy. Everyone like free games

There are no piracy on consoles. But humans are just humans. Every owner of console also own PC. If game is released only on console then everyone will buy original copy. If game is released on both PC and console then half of console owners won’t buy original copy on console but download pirated copy on PC

    1. The problem with your idea is that every console gamer may also own a PC also but not necessarily a PC capable of even playing GTA.

Not every PC gamer is pirating instead of paying either. Look at the biggest whiner about PC pirates Ubisoft. They claimed in 2012 that 95% of PC gamers were pirates but year after year they report hundreds of millions of Euros from PC gaming revenue. They’ve never backed up that claim with any actual proof about the percentage of PC pirates btw.

  12. I wouldn’t even use Gollum as a statement of anything including optimization, that game was doomed from the start.

    1. Turd Of The Year Award. I haven’t played it and I never will but I feel confident it deserves that award. It was so bad that even Developers that also turned out a turd game this year could look down on Gollum and shake their heads in disgust.

The turd is on sale on Steam right now for 60% off and judging from the lack of reviews there I would imagine that even then no one is wanting it.

      1. Played for 10 minutes, it was hilarious. They ran out of money when they were like 20 % in development, so no wonder.

  13. Good points there john. I think it’s just profits, double dipping etc Consoles are a lot easier to do for devs since you’re working with a closed final system you can design to but yeah modern consoles are close to what most people have on pc’s by now. 2060 average, ssd, nvme, 16gb etc so yeah. Get online money printing going on in place.
The trick would be designing for next gen consoles but I’m not sure when those come out, don’t follow them much. And console ecosystems are largely closed so it’s more guaranteed profit there too although much smaller install base than PC by far. No real piracy there so they get the initial BANK, denuvo is just for first six months then drops off I bet. This game would be immediate target 1 for crackers. No or much less pesky modders on console either, maximum profits. The big boys sony and M$ are partners here for their consoles cha-ching.
Then later on after a lot of bugs are dealt with release on pc make another killing it’s a guaranteed second huge boost to sales they can forecast to, earnings forecasts etc

I don’t have much interest in this game tbh, with all the ones available think I have all the GTA I want so don’t care too much. I haven’t played 5 in years as a main game and longer for 4 which I need to do a replay of. I did replays of the original 3d series couple years ago and had a blast, six axis mod for SA worked great and a mod for a form of 6 axis cam for Vice City too though not as complete for it. Too many other gazillion games out there and genres and NO interest in online gaming at all. I would be MUCH more interested in an RDR3 than this game.

  14. I’m okay with the delay if the PC version offers some serious RT options.

Don’t they simply stagger the release to encourage the weak minded to purchase on console and then again PC? If so then it’s the consumer that needs a kicking.

    1. Rockstar even scoops up the console only crowd to buy it a second time when the next gen consoles come out and the updated version is released. Then there will be the online GTA VI cash cow to generate billions of USD more. Rockstar are experts at milking a game to damn death for years after initial release.

Not everyone double dips but it can go to extremes with GTA fans. Ten years ago I saw several PC gamers say that they were going to buy a console just to play GTA V right away and either sell the console or return it after playing.

    2. Why? Just release the game and add RT later. If you think a graphic feature is a gamebreaker, you can wait your turn, no need to drag other people down.

    3. There won’t be mate it will be all sw rt driven crap which appears to becoming a trend.

Looks like sw rtgi anyway with that weird over brightened bloom effect like sw lumen or avatar which has gimped rt

  15. Its simple, (a) they get backhanders from Console manufacturers for exclusivity and (b) its easier to code for fixed hardware than the myriad of differing PC configurations. Shame because I will have to wait for the PC version but so be it.

  16. Agree completely, shame some peeps are too itchy making scummy tactics like this pay off – The itching gamers make the junkies appear balanced in comparison. The itcher’s simply can’t wait to see what version is superior (hint usually the PC with a descent rug and the game in the hands of competent developers) and thus want it again later on.

  17. He did stumble over his words a bit. BUT, I gotta say, it’s been a decade and GTA V still features probably the most intricate open world ever crafted for a video game. I’ve been recently watching bits and pieces of it being played on a let’s play and the quality of that world is still staggering to me. Now let’s remind ourselves that this staggering achievement released on the PLAYSTATION 3. I cannot imagine the effort and focus needed to get this thing up and going on that ancient generation of hardware. While I’d be willing to bet that Rockstar totally could deliver a perfectly functional PC product at the same time as their console launch, I think it’s just their preferred method to completely focus on delivering a polished (or as polished as they can get it) product to the fixed platforms first and then focus as equally and heavily on delivering a (relatively) polished and feature enhanced PC build. And hey, just look at how their launches come out generally in much stronger states, unlike seemingly every other major release that comes out 85% complet and we need to wait for patches to fill in the additional 15%

TLDR: It seems Rockstar prefers an all hands on deck approach to development

  18. 86 comments. on DSOG. Damn. Are we getting invaded by plebbit? or maybe you people have terrible taste, f#ck this normie game

  19. I do not understand the outrage at all. Things are very simple.

A game studio, however large they are have a finite number of people.

So if they want to release 3 products at once they can split the people so that:
    a. All the products will be ready at the same time (let’s say for GTA a release date for consoles and PC at 2026)
    b. Prioritize (what really happened) so consoles 2025 and pc 2027.
    c. Just rush everything and release consoles and pc at 2025, which in that case there will be a DSOgaming article with title “RTX 5090 cannot run GTA6 above 60FPS at 4k” and 100s of comments complaining that the game is unoptimized.

So I don’t think option (b) is so much worse that option (a) and (c) for people to complain

  20. First of all, of course the purpose of making games is to make money. This guy said nonsense.
Secondly, compare Avatar with GTA6? Compare Dead Island 2 with GTA6? These two dogsh*t a*s combined are not qualified to compare with GTA6 LMAOOOOO
