ARK Survival Ascended feature

First screenshot for the Unreal Engine 5-powered ARK: Survival Ascended

Studio Wildcard has released the first screenshot for the Unreal Engine 5 remaster of ARK: Survival Evolved, ARK: Survival Ascended.

As Studio Wildcard noted, this is an in-game screenshot using the game’s Photo Mode. So, while these appear to be in-game assets, the actual game may not look like this. After all, we’ve seen numerous games that look noticeably better in their Photo Mode than during gameplay. Still, if Studio Wildcard manages to come anywhere close to this, then we can safely say that this ARK Remaster will be one of the best-looking games of 2023. Now imagine a Jurassic Park horror game with this kind of graphics.

ARK Survival Ascended feature

ARK: Survival Ascended was originally meant to come out in August 2023. However, in July 2023, the developers decided to delay it until October 2023. Ironically, we’re in the middle of October and we still don’t know when this game will come out. But hey, at least we have a screenshot so that’s something, right?

From what we know so far, ARK: Survival Ascended will be using UE5’s Nanite, Lumen and RTXDI. Thus, it will be interesting to see how it will fare against its original version. It will also be interesting to see how costly these features will be.

Games that are currently using both Nanite and Lumen require a lot of PC hardware power. Immortals of Aveum, Lords of the Fallen and Fort Solis require high-end GPUs, especially for gaming at resolutions higher than 1440p. Let’s also not forget that the original ARK had numerous performance and optimization issues. So yeah, I don’t really know whether Studio Wildcard will be able to deliver a solid PC product.

We’ll be sure to benchmark and test ARK: Survival Ascended when it comes out. Until then, enjoy its first screenshot!

  1. looks great but will run terrible.. this will be the ultimate stutterfest and poor performance “game” for centuries! StarCitizen eat your heart out !

  2. Lets hope they optimise this one a little, it took years to get the
original to a playable state on reasonable hardware and you can still
shave 90GB off by just using file compression. I fully expect to need a
mortage for the kind of GFX Card and Storage this will need.

    1. And ASE is in a playable state now not because they optimized it, but because mainstream GPUs are now better than anything that existed when the game first went into early access.

  4. Knowing how well wildcard optimizes their games, this isn’t a screenshot, it’s the first gameplay video
