Metal Gear Solid 3 Snake Eater HD Edition

METAL GEAR SOLID Master Collection Vol.1 will be locked at 1080p even on PC

Konami has updated the official MC website, revealing that METAL GEAR SOLID Master Collection Vol.1 will be locked at 1080p even on PC.

As we can see, the first Metal Gear Solid will only support 1080p/30fps. The other two Metal Gear Solid games will only support 1080p with 60fps on most major platforms. Additionally, both Metal Gear Solid 2 and Metal Gear Solid 3 won’t support uncapped framerates or 4K resolutions, even on PC.

Metal Gear Solid Collection 1080p

This is ridiculous and shows what this collection really is. A quick cash grab and nothing more. Yes yes, we’ll finally get a native PC version of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater on PC. However, there is no point playing it when a) you can emulate the PS3 version at 4K and b) a remake of it is in development.

At least Konami has reconsidered its stance towards the PC controls. After the PC outrage over the lack of K&M controls, Konami has clarified that Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater will get proper K&M support. The second MGS game will also get some mouse support. And as for the the first Metal Gear Solid game, it will only support keyboard.

Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 will release on PC on October 24th. And, to be honest, I’m not particularly excited about it. As I said, you can already get a way better gaming experience by emulating the PS3/X360 HD Collection. For instance, RPCS3 can already run Metal Gear Solid 2 at 4K with 60fps on a wide range of PC configurations. Similarly, Xenia can run Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater HD in 4K on high-end PC systems. At the end of the article, you can find videos showcasing them.

All in all, this upcoming collection is basically DOA. Or at least it is on PC. Basically, Konami is after the current-gen console owners. On PC, there are alternative ways to experience these classic MGS games. On consoles, however, there won’t be any other way to play them. And that’s what this collection is all about.

It’s really disappointing because Metal Gear fans deserve to be treated better than this!

  1. It was bad enough that Metal Gear Rising was locked to 1080p on PC a decade ago. But simply porting PS1/PS2 era games, locking to a decade old resolution standard, and charging $60?

Konami and Rockstar are competing for laziest, most cash grab ports.

  2. I might as well play the original MGS2 PC port and emulate MGS3 on PCSX2 and put it at 4k. Why would i even bother pay full price for a worse experience than what is already available currently, jesus christ.

    1. because emulation is technically illegal so companies don’t view it as option. Emulation is also extremely unpopular so many people dont even know its a thing for anything other then snes games. Then out of those interested in emulation most doesnt have hardware to run anything… You should look at it from company perspective and casual audience as its all that matters in the end. No one cares what few people using emulators think, in fact no one cares about hardcore gamers browsing gaming boards etc, money is in casuals and masses and they will welcome such re-release. Also look at steam data, 85% of steam users has 1080p screen so they dont even care about resolution lock. You people here think of yourself as some enlightened geniuses yet you lack any real world perspective on subject. You call them stupid for doing that yet its them that earn millions and you live in parents basement crying over it.

Oh btw. obviously supported resolution means if you go over UI may be janky or fonts too small i bet you will be able to set 4k just fine. Supported resolution always means just proper UI scaling.

      1. First of all Emulation is NOT illegal, distrubing copyrighted content is ilegal. If you´re going too try to correct someone you´re should at least have your basic facts right.

Second,.You´re living under a rock if you think that any emulation past SNES is “unknow” by the general public. you´re realize that PPSSPP has almost 2M downloads on the Google Store alone right ? If that is not “mainstream” than what is.

Third. You have incorrect stats and is interpreting the stats wrong. Actually is 60% that uses 1080p as a PRIMARY RESOLUTION DISPLAY, I myself use a 1080p 144hz multi monitor setup, while also hooked up to 4K OLED TV as third screen for some games. So my stats for steam still count as a 1080p user.

Seems to me the one here who “think that is some enlightened geniuses yet lack any real world perspective on subject” is you.

Oh btw, the original MGS 2 came out in November 13, 2001.. and was 60fps on the PS2, THAT IS TWO DECADES ago yet is 30fps on the switch. How can you even attempt to defend this lol.

    1. I remember the days when Jim Sterling popularized that as one of his catchphrases along with “Oh, Ubisoft!”.

The days before Sterling turned into a clown show.

  3. These companies need to look to Night Dive’s Quake 1 & 2 remasters as a template. They include original game plus all DLC/expansions, include new content, restore cut content from existing levels, feature enhanced graphics that maintain the original art style, have a huge array of visual options, are priced reasonably and are a free upgrade to existing owners.

    1. Nightdive Studios went above and beyond the call of duty with their Shadowman Remastered. They added cut bosses, levels, a new difficulty, and a whole bunch of goodies. I’ve never played it back in the day, and having a blast with it right now on the new Horror difficulty.

    1. Fortunately for konami (and unfortunately for us), the world is full of consumerist morons so they’re going to make bank.

      1. why is it unfortunate for you, if people buy it it somehow hurts you? Its just regular rerelase cash grab, doesnt matter if it sells or not it will not influence anything as it costs nothing for companies to release they treat it as bonus money not some core of business model that will decide what they make in future.

    1. Unless there is Denuvo involved, newer version will block modding, any code modding is blocked also with Denuvo.

  4. I can’t emulate MGS3 properly soid rather take the port. Modders will fix the resolution issue in 10 minutes and additional mods will be created as well.

      1. My PC has a weak a*s FX6300… still decent for everything but the most demanding games. But emulation. 6th gen and up? Big no there.

So I’d rather take the port in this case which should run fine unless Konami absolutely screws it up.

  5. Did I read that right? The first metal gear is only Mouse and keyboard? Why? It’s a PlayStation game. Controller support should be standard

    1. Not every one can afford a great card but the point is why buy a 1080 port when you can emulate it 1080p does not take a huge graphics card to emulate it at 1080 but there should be options to go higher resolution if you have a more powerfull gpu.

  6. I can mod that resolution on PC in 15 minutes.
I just hope K+M controlls for MGS2 and 3 are at least ok.
The original PC port of MGS2 was a joke.

    1. You wont know till it is released some will with ini some will with adding res to target some will with dgvoodoo some will modding the hex but some may take a lot longer.

      1. I will hex edit that crap or use IDA pro with cheat engine to change the .exe assembly code. I did it before for some games.

    2. Well, the game is officially playable on controller only, there’s no support for KB/M at all, it’s even mentioned in its Steam page

      1. ” After the PC outrage over the lack of K&M controls, Konami has clarified that Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater will get proper K&M support. The second MGS game will also get some mouse support. And as for the the first Metal Gear Solid game, it will only support keyboard.”

  7. On top of all that crap, it seems the games are emulated, MGS1 won’t even have widescreen support. Fu%# konami and whoever buy this sh*t

  8. It is going to be like Call of Duty gets worse every year get charged insane prices for dlc’s no make your own maps choose your servers make your own rules and every one says im not going to buy it this year but every moron does it will be no different with this game on console at least on pc it may be different we can mod or emulate a game better than a remaster from a company like activision or Konami that says fcuk quality we just want your money.

  9. It also might be just drumming up attention for their MGS3 remake-Delta Snake Eater. But yeah konami must have some other cash cow to not have redone the MGS series in modern graphics, controls etc by now. And many want Silent Hills remade. And yes I know SH2 is being remade. SH3-5 could use remakes or remastering, mods are dodgy headache. Ground Zeroes is still amazing, V is ok but kinda empty world.

  10. One click on the videos reveals that these games have not aged gracefully. Nonetheless, Konami and clearly looking to cash in on nostalgic Steam Deck owners, where >60p or >1080p does not matter.

    1. LOL, why do you single out Steam Deck owners of all people?

You do know that the Steam Deck is not a traditional gaming console, right?

To the contrary, thanks to being Linux-based, running all kinds of emulators is not a problem, such as PCSX2 for PS2 emulation, which performs really great with its Vulkan renderer.

Plus when downscaled from 1080p for the best anti-aliasing results, both MGS2 & MGS3 still look quite servicable on the Steam Deck…

  11. After Kojima left. Who really cares about Konami anymore? I don’t even remember a good game last made by them?

  12. Good. Hopefully the file size will be nice and small since they don’t have to cater to 4k meme.

    “B-but it’s clearer!”

Not clearer enough to deal with performance requirements and bloated file sizes. 1080p is enough. Plus, mod creators will unlock it real quick. Nah, the real problems will show up pretty soon, such as Denuvo, no KB+M support (Already says that on their steam page) or some kind of stutter that will make the games just annoying enough to play but not bad enough to create a big enough backlash.

  13. Those 1080p 30/60 maybe good for N. Switch but for PC and next gen consoles in 2023/24 is just unbelievable misstep!
With such a legendary franchise Konami should have done whatever they could to remaster that collection in the way it deserve!
There is a company called Nightdive studios and they could do with MGS collection a real candy but no!
    Konami as always.

  14. Don’t care!
These games were never about good graphics (but ofc it would be better having it), so it won’t make much of a difference.
Played the original MGS2 PS2 version about 2 years ago and had a blast. Since I’m not planing on pay for this, I don’t give a fück about it being 1080p, which is more than enough.
