    1. Jesus christ… people complaining that too little is fixed, now it’s too much but where’s fix for X. In software development you tend to fix the low hanging fruit more easily than memory leaks… If they really have a memory leak and can reproduce it. I’ve played for hours on end and haven’t had any problems so if it’s hard to reproduce, you can’t fix it without data. You need memory profilers which show you which objects are getting leaked so if you can’t get that data from your users, and you can’t reproduce it, you’re not likely going to fix it quickly.

      1. Agreed on the double edged sword. The problem is telemetry data usually won’t help you identify memory leaks and unless the game crashes because of an OOM (out of memory) based memory leak, you won’t get that data. Additionally, troubleshooting a memory leak even if you know which object is leaking can be difficult if it’s a common object or structure like a string, because you need to identify the patterns in the objects to help you narrow down what code allocated it but didn’t de-alloc. Usually you end up taking a profiler of the issue and can help narrow it down, or you turn on GFLAG options like pageheap verification to assist finding the ALLOCs that aren’t getting de-alloc’d. It’s a hard thing to narrow down unless you can reproduce the issue. My point above is, while rather anecdotal, I haven’t seen any memory leaks myself… so it could be that they aren’t aware. Good points though!

  1. So it’s the first rather big patch, not because of the new items/aspects but because it strangely enough shifts the overall balance to a slower game, hopefully slowing down the lawnmower pace especially against crowds, elites and bosses, and there are some level scaling balance and endgame tweaks too.

BUT it’s still them working on the ‘easy, low hanging fruit’ work, just editing numbers, which is reasonable this early, but for a game 8 years in the making from a huge company and so shallow, it’s keeping everyone nervous about their capability to actually do something substantial about the game in terms of adding and revamping features.

I’ll be waiting to the more extensive changes reserved for Season 2 in 3 months to gauge if this game has any chance of living up to the Diablo name, but I’m not holding my breath knowing that it’s the carcass of Blizzard.
