The team behind the Duke Nukem Forever: Restoration Project has released the “Duke It Out” Update for it. This update brings significant performance improvements, as well as new content.
Going into more details, the team has managed to improve performance on both the DX8 and DX9 renderers. Furthermore, it was able to enable high-resolution rendering. Not only that, but the game’s OpenGL renderer is now closer to parity with the DirectX renderers.
The Duke It Out Update also adds nine maps for multiplayer action. The team has also made a number of other enhancements and improvements to the multiplayer as well. For instance, it has fixed the alternative game modes like Bomb and Team Deathmatch. It has also packed a number of new Mutators to play with as well such as Shotgun Start and Instagib.

John, or anyone here: Has it been mentioned when will the full 2001 game be fully restored? I mean is there kind of like a roadmap for this restoration project?
there is no roadmap because there is no plan. There are many stuff missing story and level wise, there are levels that are connected to nothing, because those levels were not made yet, there is no ending or ending bossfight, alot of this is cryptic, we dont know what they were thinking or if they even had an idea of what to make. So the restoration project has to decide if its only going to restore existing half finished stuff and fix bugs or if they gonna finish the game themselves .But until they get there, they have to repair the broken scripts, fix the engine, make it run on modern systems without constantly crashing and awful performance since this is a modified version of the original engine that was not designed to work on modern systems. In the original release you had a level select menu that had p*rn in the preview pictures. They also removed the confederate flags from casinos, so they changing things as well. Many of the features of the game did not work, the freeze ray weapon was broken and they just fixed multiplayer. Many people cant play the game, it just crashes, so there is alot of work to make it work until they can figure out if they gonna finish it.
“They also removed the confederate flags from casinos”
Here we go again. I’m going to completely ignore this project now that I know the creators are political activists.
to be fair mod sites are the problem.
Since nobody else is going to say it, the problem is, this simply isn’t true and is an uninformed opinion. They didn’t remove anything and have repeated said in contrast to this that things like “The Plantation” which is the confederate flag these people are worried so much about, is just being repurposed at another location.
Anyone tried this mod yet?
Yes, and it’s great for what it is! Feels like a classic duke game
This is awesome, great job to the guys doing it
