SEGA today announced that Total War: ROME REMASTERED will release on April 29th. Created in collaboration with Feral Interactive, this comprehensive remaster allows players to relive this strategy game thanks to a suite of visual and gameplay improvements.
Total War: ROME REMASTERED aims to deliver a modern gaming experience all whilst maintaining the original Total War formula. The game will have new and improved features. For instance, it will pack fully overhauled visuals, ultra-high-definition resolution support, an expanded faction roster and improved accessibility.
Rob Bartholomew, Chief Product Officer at Creative Assembly, said:
“What better excuse than the 20th year of Total War to revisit a grand master? The original release of Rome marks a special time for us as our first major break-out title; it’s amazing to get the opportunity to Remaster it with our friends at Feral.”
David Stephen, Managing Director of Feral Interactive, added:
“Working to remaster a classic such as Rome, has been an exhilarating challenge: a bit like recutting the crown jewels. We are happy with the result and hope that fans of this fantastic franchise will be too.”
Here are the key features of Total War: ROME REMASTERED.
Total War: ROME REMASTERED Key Features
- Improved Visuals. Total War: ROME REMASTERED ushers the classic strategy title into the modern gaming era with full 4K visuals, native support for ultra-high-definition resolution and overhauled environment, battlefield, and character models.
- New Gameplay Content. Wage war across new fronts with 16 previously unplayable factions to play on top of the original 22, and send the new Merchant agents on missions to establish lucrative trade networks across the map, buy out rival Merchants, and assert your empire’s economic power.
- Modernised Features. Players can exercise more control than ever with new features such as a tactical map during battles, plus heat maps and icon overlays in campaign mode. Existing mechanics have also been improved, including an overhauled diplomacy system, wider camera zoom levels throughout the game, and camera rotation on the campaign map.
- Improved Help Systems. A swathe of improved support has been added, including a redesigned tutorial, a new in-game Wiki, expansive advice and tooltips, and improved accessibility for colour blind players.
- Cross-platform Multiplayer. Players can enjoy cross-platform PVP multiplayer between Windows, macOS and Linux, a first for the Total War franchise.
- Complete Original Content. Total War: ROME REMASTERED includes the Barbarian Invasion and Alexander expansions in glorious new detail, and players will also gain access to the original ROME: Total War Collection (only playable on Windows).

The original ROME is no longer available for purchase, now it available only on pare with this remaster. This is literally more soft version of Warcraft III: Reforged bullshit.
So you can’t exploit the sale meant for the people who already had the game.
Be honest, that’s the only reason you suddenly after all the years want the original
Even the EA didn`t ban the purchase of the original Mass Effects after the announcement of remaster.
IT’s entirely available for purchase. Learn to use Google.
Or buy the actual game.
RTW pre-dates the sale of third party games on Steam. I guarantee you you can find a retail copy somewhere online or in a store.
You’re just trying to get the $15 discount for pretending you own the game already.
Rome 1 was and still is my favorite Total War Game.
For the love of god do not F@ck this up CA.
That gives me hope for Medieval 2 remaster.
Nice. Very interesting. Let’s hope for a Medieval and Shogun TW Remastered.
TW Rome was the best Total war game of all in my opinion. Hopefully they ditch the godawful engine they’ve been using since Shogan 2 which is focused on one-on-one combat in battles and simply doesn’t make any sense in Rome or Medieval Total War games.
EDIT: Just checked out the Steam page – so this is basically the same old engine but with facelifts, well that negates my concerns about the combat. But the UI is kinda aweful and too busy compared to the original. What’s with the little icons on regions of the world map?!
Well its a remaster of Rome 1, so they’ll be using the same engine. Which is good, because the Rome 1 and Medieval 2 engine actually simulated individual unit physics, as opposed to the blob crap they have now.
Yep, just looked at the steampage screenshots. And it appears you’re right but the UI in my opinion got worse.
Yeah I’m mixed about the new UI. I don’t think it is necessarily bad now, but it’s one of those “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” things. The original UI was fine. We’ll see. Either way the new UI isn’t a make or break issue for me.
Hopefully those icons can be toggled on and off. Rome does desperately need facelifts and Rome 2 sucked hard.
Empire had it first, total mess
You do realize this is a retexture of a 16 year old game, right?
They aren’t remaking Rome 1 in a new engine.
If you bothered to read my post in its entirety you wouldn’t go acting all smartass. Treat people better and you just might make more friends.
One of the features Rome 1 had was that you could explore your cities on the battle map, without actually having to get into a battle. It’s asinine to me that they took this feature out in all later games – especially Rome 2 – when they focused so much in promotional material for Rome 2 on how they improved the cities, and even used all these bullshots in cities to promote the game.
Hope they leave the real game intact, stupid four Rome factions and all.
