Now here is something really cool. A team of indie developers, led by Soapy, has created an unofficial PC port of the Playstation exclusive game, Driver 2. As such, PC gamers can now enjoy this classic Driver game on modern-day PC systems and with 60fps.
In case you’re wondering, Soapy and his team have basically reversed engineered the whole game. So yeah, this isn’t an emulated version of Driver 2; this is a native PC port, similar to the unofficial PC port of Super Mario 64.
Going into more details, the REDRIVER2 project builds all source code from assembly, and compile a native version for PC. This unofficial PC port makes the game playable from start to finish. However, do note that the port uses the original PSX levels and assets, so you’ll have to create an ISO from your PSX game in order to play it.
The project also aims to fix all reverse-engineering bugs, as well as some existing critical bugs and performance issues. It also plans to implement various cool stuff, PC rendering and audio engine, and get rid of hard-coded stuff.
You can download the latest version of this unofficial PC port of Driver 2 from here. Once you have compiled the most recent code, copy DRIVER2 folder from your game CD to the location where the compiled EXE is located.
Have fun!

there is also some fanmade driver game i dont remember the name right now
The Driver Syndicate
Cool!
Good stuff
share the mario 64 pc port next john.
Already done
Eventhough been a PC-only gamer always, and never owned a console, I still think PS2 is the greatest console in my gaming life! The amount of amazing games that came out for it is too many!
OMG NO WOBBLE POLYS!!!!
Please do this with gran turismo 2!!!
I wanted the wobble, Ballistic.NG for example has an option to turn it on in the settings
BallisticNG. Now there’s a true hidden gem of a game with great support from modders via the Steam Workshop.
You can do that since a long time in emulators now, use mednafen or pcsxr emulators. You have an option to “fix” the wobble polys.
It looks like dated aaaaaaaaaaass. Why bother, I don’t get it.
Zoomer.
I’m 43 years old. How old are you fk wit? I said it looks like dated a*s and I don’t see the appeal. There are plenty of old games that still ahve appeal. This isn’t one of them.
“i don’t like it so nobody should like it”
thats a typical zoomer answer lul
I’m 58 and have been active online since the mid 80s.
Having said that Buddydudeguy doesn’t act like a 43 year old that I have ever known of.
Then stop commenting like a zoomer mate. You are telling stupid obvious things (and then you complain about the obvious answers you get…), but then you dare to ask why bother? wtf is that…the comments here should give you an idea for why. Don’t be such a fa**ot about it.
A wut now about it? Are you even capable of making sense? F*k you kid.
It looks dated because it is dated, 20 years to be exact. Ain’t you smart? lmao
hur dur, what a fking brainless reply.
Thanks
Lots of potential here, one of them maybe better texture like Mario 64 port can provide
Thanks for sharing, very good stuff
EDIT : Doesn’t run at 60 fps, it’s a locked 30 and there’s no option for that in the INI file, it’s still enjoyable though
How do you know the people behind this project was reverse engineering this specific game for the past 20 years?
Needs to fix the view distance asap.
I like projects like this. Do i need Visual Studio for this or there is a free alternative to compile code ?
Nevermind, I figured it out.
Don’t know where John got that ‘running at 60fps’ from. Just downloaded it, and it runs at 30fps and low internal resolution (no matter what resolution you set at .ini file).
The internal res is ok, it works at 1080p for real, it’s just the assets that are very low res, didn’t find a solution for the 30 fps lock though
Sir the video link is dead.
Cuba, here i go again, 60fps this time.
Driver 3 also need improvement. Especially texture and gameplay…
It’s called Driver 4.
Driver San Francisco don’t have the same charm as Driv3r.
Driver 3 aged like wine, that game is really good.
I remember having my mind blown when the game allowed you to switch cars by leaving them and taking a walk (way before GTA 3 did). Shame it was more of a gimmick since the campaign barely use it…still amazing.
Project started in 28 March 2019.
Next time at least try to read the article and/or visit official page 😉
Problem with god of war ports is not reverse engineering, problem are possible sony lawsuits.
Never thought I’d see a new PS1 to PC port. How about Gran Turismo 2 next?
Sorry, it is not a PC port if you still need the original game’s ISO. It is just a mod.
Don’t get me wrong, this is fantastic news, but we have to call things what they really are.
Technically REDRIVER2 is not a mod, it is a complete re-implementation of the game (a recreation). REDRIVER2 just requires the assets that the original game uses, you can just paste in some images/textures into the game, add your own music etc and you wouldn’t need to own Driver 2 in order to play it.
o yeah? where can i download the native binaries to apply this “mod”?
stop talking out of your a*s pls
Anything for the superior first game? I know it has a PC version but any way to increase the draw distance on that version? The draw distance on Driver 2 was even worse than the first game on PS1, and I know it was to improve the visuals in other areas, but it hurts the game so bad.
The draw distance on this PC port of Driver 2 actually has hacked in 3x draw distance over the PSX release, so there is that.
Why don’t get a fukking compiled exe?!
https://ciDOTappveyor.com/project/SoapyMan/redriver2-10jm8/branch/master/job/wy0de8m33emaf707/artifacts
This above is the compiled exe
https://githubDOTcom/OpenDriver2/REDRIVER2/wiki/Installation-instructions
And these are the full instructions for install and config (not for the compilation), keep in mind that you have to get the ISOs (and extract them) from the 2 discs of the game if you own it, otherwise use your imagination
I remember the original driver was nice
