A couple of days ago, CD Projekt RED announced that Cyberpunk 2077 has been delayed until December 10th. Apparently, though, this has forced two studios to delay their upcoming projects. These projects are: Path of Exile’s December Expansion and EVERSPACE 2’s Early Access.
As Grinding Gear stated:
“Yesterday, CD Projekt Red announced that Cyberpunk 2077 will now be released on December 10. We do not want to put our players in a position of having to choose between these two games, so we have decided to step out of the way and delay the release of Path of Exile 3.13 until January.
We still expect to finish 3.13 by early/mid-December. The scope of this expansion will remain unchanged. During the month of delay before release, we will start work on the 3.14 expansion.”
Rockfish Games added:
“We know from our community that there is quite an audience overlap between the two titles, so we decided to get out of the way and push back our release to January. We are aware that EVERSPACE 2 fans will be unhappy, but competing with the arguably most anticipated video game in history isn’t the best idea.”

This situation is rediculous but it’s the most honest thing ever said by a studio. And that couldn’t be easy to admit. We all know that do it, but to admit it is tough. Can’t blame them, they are right. Blame CDPR, these people had their date picked & ready; then CdPR had to come and sh*t all over it. Smh ?????

remember when videogame companies competed with each other?
Yeah but you’re asking this studio with their tiny game in early access to compete with a massive AAA open world/immersive sim/rpg. Most people out there will be playing Cyberpunk for the remainder of December.
There only thing is that. Who says it wont get delayed again. :DDDDDD
no, what i am telling you is that the industry is so trash nowadays that not only game releases in a broken state, but the devs delay their games so another game that everyone is convinced wont be another trashy mess can get the spotlight. Its not like people dont have enough money to buy games, there is barely anything coming out and yet people preorder next gen consoles with no games.
There is no competition or effort being put into gaming these days, its like the entire hobby or industry is a clique of middle upper class beggars who are not passionate about their jobs and they sell their games as “please spare some change and buy our games” and then epic comes in and secures a exclusivity deal.
This has nothing to do with money mate. There isn’t enough free time to play everything for most people. And I’d wager most people will look at Cyberpunk and then look at Everspace 2 and think to themselves… “Well Everspace is in early access. So I can wait for it to be a bit more polished while I enjoy this game here”
It’s just common sense.
which is why there is no point in delaying a early access release.
I just gave you one. There is only so much time in a day. If people have to choose which game to play and you give them choice of a finished one or an unfinished one, most people who are interested in both, assuming that money isn’t a factor will play the finished one first and get the unfinished one later with the idea that it will be better of later.
Everspace would have been overlooked entirely and missed out on their time in the spotlight because. All that missed revenue because of a poor choice of a launch window.
Anyways. I just disagree. That was a good call on their part.
“There is only so much time in a day. If people have to choose which game to play”
i do this every day.

But a huge example of why not to compete with a known winner would be Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines which released on the same day as Half Life 2.
whose fault is that? Valve game them the engine before it was finished and for whatever reason be it publisher or stupidity they decided to release the game on the same day as hl2 which had a newer version of the engine.
But in this case we are talking about a freaking early access update godamn it.
Vampire TMBL was ready months before HL2, but it couldn’t be released because at this point Valve and Sierra were battling at court thus halting Source engine from being used by 3rd party devs. The version of Source they used was also terrible and had major security problems among many other issues
lol vale wtf
The year prior to HL2 release was without any doubt the worst in Valve’s history, even the devs that were on any form of contact with them suffered…
Yeah but small indie devs didn’t exist back then, not in their current form, it’s seems understandable for me that an indie studio is avoiding the biggest release of the year, that would be ridiculous if it was a big publisher/dev though
Weren’t pretty much all teams before videogames became mainstream (more or less in the early to mid 90s?) indie (small budget and number of people working on it) ?.
Nowadays teams can compete with movies productions size wise, is kinda ridiculous.
Not really because all of them had publishers
A key point i forgot, fair enough.
Come on, people, games being delayed is nothing new, far from it. I recall waiting in eager anticipation for the release of Doom 3, or Half-Life 2. Both those games were delayed at least a couple of times, for different reasons, and that was almost 20 years ago.
It bothered me a bit back then, but nowadays I don’t mind waiting longer, even for a year or two. And that’s why waiting for all those EGS captives to be freed doesn’t really bother me anymore.
Good for you, Budha.
I wish I were a Buddha, unfortunately I was a lousy meditator.
More to your point, look how much “damage” a delay does even to third party companies (the excuse of moving the game because they dont want players to be in a dilemma is absurd, specially on how niche those games are…but of course most people would choose CP77 since is the most anticipated thing since a long time, they should admit that they dont want to lose sells”.
They are games yes, but there’s a whole bussiness and people’s work on the line.
Yes, because you care so much about other people’s work…
Of course i do, who will make the games i like then?
OK, now I know why you never wait for sales, why you always buy games at full price (right?). Because you care a lot about the devs, and you want to support them.
I myself have to admit I’m not that generous, I care about my limited finances first.
The devs get pay regardless of me buying the game…they aren’t slaves, they have a contract. Some twisted reality makes you think that the only way to support devs is buying day 1? LOL
Nope, i pirate most stuff and buy only the things i like or are deserving of the price on a sale, you know this already
“…i pirate most stuff…
There you are. LOL
“…they should admit that they don’t want to lose sells”.
They actually very clearly state that they don’t want to lose sales: “…competing with the arguably most anticipated video game in history isn’t the best idea.”
“We do not want to put our players in a position of having to choose between these two games”
Lol, at least the EVERSPACE guys were honest about not wanting to release next to a massive game and being outshadowed, POE just couldn’t admit it.
