UnrealHD v3.0-2

UnrealHD v3.0 is now available, overhauls all classic Unreal & Unreal Tournament skins

Unreal and Unreal Tournament fans, here is something special for you today. Lightning_Hunter has released a new version of his high-resolution skins pack for Unreal and Unreal Tournament, UnrealHD.

As you may have guessed, UnrealHD is a mutator that replaces all the old and blurry Unreal/RTNP skins with detailed, high-resolution versions. Do note that this pack only overhauls the skins of enemies, NPCs and weapons; it does not replace any of the environmental textures.

According to the modder, UnrealHD v3.0 comes with enhanced skins for Unreal Tournament, Unreal, and UT99. In addition to this, it includes many custom skins from popular single-player maps. Furthermore, it fixes the longstanding FOV issue of the weapons in widescreen.

You can download UnrealHD v3.0 from here. The modder also suggests using HD4k Extreme Resolution V3 for the DirectX11 Renderer for the best results.

Lastly, you can find below some screenshots, showcasing these new high-quality skins.

  1. damn the textures are so hd you can see how bad the models are, check the screenshot with the rocker launcher.

  2. I think the new textures are a little too sharp; as if the ‘sharpen’ feature was used a bit too much. Could just be an issue with the screenshots provided. But still looks excellent!

  3. I think I am one of a few that like to play vanilla games. Not much time ago I finished Unreal and Return to Napali without any mod and had a great time. Same for Morrowind. But for those who like, is good that exist. Cheers.

    1. I like replaying most older games as they were too. It reminds me of how good they were back in the day. Unreal was incredible. I was hooked from the intro.

I never got a chance to play Return to Na Pali. Not enough hours in the day back then but I’m retired now. Is Na Pali pretty good? Worth a play?

      1. If you liked the base game and want more, sure. Though I began frustrated by the fact the all the work I done to escape the planet was in vain in the first time. I played as soon as finished Unreal and it has many levels. Took me about 44 hours (Unreal + Return) to finish it (Unreal Gold) on Unreal difficulty.

    2. I can understand what you mean for textures, but i personally can’t avoid community patches, Unreal is unplayable for me without 227i and DX10 renderer, i wont refuse widescreen and QoL improvements if they’re available

    3. I love how people replay all these old games and are still surprised by the quality. Especially when they look at recent times and wonder: What happened?

The answer should be: it wasn’t as cynical back in the day. Devs cared about quality first. They wanted to push boundaries.

We all know what it’s all about these days. Corporate suits took the helm.

    4. I’m an originalist (except in the case of Baz Luhrmann’s William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet — they kept the original language — and The Last of the Mohicans — I can’t get into the original texts, but the Daniel Day-Lewis film is great), but in the case of old PC games, I like mouse look and sharper textures.

If they can add better lighting, higher resolutions/widescreen, etc., then that’s great, but it has to have the same aesthetic.

  4. Ahh facing worlds, arguably one of the best multiplayer insane carnage maps ever made – Makes today’s games seem like prechewed childfood in comparison hehe

  5. The weapon models are really great but no need for better textures for those square shaped characters, it’s a bit too much… The real issue tho comes from the custom DX11 renderer which makes every texture reflect like it was coated with jelly, and by everything i mean every goddamn surface, use the DX10 renderer instead

  6. Unreal was a really great game for 1998 (kinda got forgotten after Unreal Tournament came out). And Unreal II:Awakening massacred the single player Unreal prospects.
And Unreal Tournament III did the same for the multiplayer side of things.
Still … Unreal Tournament 2017 was still happening …
And then Fortnite happened …. Goddamit !

    1. If anything, an UE4 remake/remaster of Unreal I would be great.
Or if Epic decides to reboot Unreal in the same vain as id’s Doom, that’d be even better.

  7. HAWT DAYUM!
So happy to see this…will definitely install it! I need to update my Unreal and UT99 installs with newer version of other mods as well, like the DX11 Renderer + the Extreme Textures (fully reelased few months back).
These will forever be golder games!

  8. I usually agree with people saying that HD textures in old games completely destroy the aesthetics, but in this case, I think it works well.
This + Patch 227 + HD maps textures, and it looks really great!
Personally, I can’t play without these anymore. ??
