MechWarrior and MechCommander fans, here is something special for you today. A team of modders has released a must-have mod for MechWarrior 5, Mechcommander: Mercenaries. Mechcommander: Mercenaries basically turns MechWarrior 5 into a real-time strategy game.
Players will be able to select and issue orders to their lance and other friendly units throughout Mechwarrior 5’s campaign mode. As the team noted, phase 1 of the project is a limited RTS experience that works with most of the base game’s story missions and procedurally generated levels. Additional RTS features, features from previous Mechcommander titles, and compatibility with Instant Action and Co-op will be added later.
This mod uses an isometric camera viewpoint. Players can use the “W-A-S-D” keys to pan the camera around the level. By mouse scrolling to the edge of the screen, you will pan the camera in that direction. On the other hand, by holding the middle mouse button, you will rotate/tilt the camera with mouse movement. Naturally, you can zoom in or out via mouse scroll. Also, you can pan the camera to a unit by double clicking on it.
Since this is a beta release, this mod has some issues. For instance, there is no option to change keybinding (though the team aims to add one). Furthermore, the Tutorial mission in campaign does not work with this mod. Also, the minimap will sometimes fail to load the base map, and the mnimap icons are missing or are all black.
Still, and despite its issues, I’m certain that most strategy fans will find this mod interesting. After all, the last mech strategy game we got was BattleTech in 2018, and that was a turn-based strategy. So, go ahead and download MechCommander Mercenaries from here.

why? We already got a rts mech game, how about a mod that centers the third person camera like lost planet?
Thrid person camera on a Mechwarrior game LOL!! There are actually some nice mods wich improves the 1st person, the only one should be used.
The mod itself has a good concept, but the awful teammates AI takes too much time to react to orders and so dumb to completing them, i don’t see how this can be “playable” with such an stupid AI
Such a shame to hear MW5 still is not playing well as it should.
Glad Epic kept this game to themselves for a year to allow time for it to get repaired.
Hopefully that will be enough time!
And thats the real problem, EPIC. their obsessive greed is killing the gaming market. But once this game hits steam, that will change. Steam to the rescue!
