First details for Obsidian’s Avowed; mod support, real-time weather, fully open world & more

Twitter user “Joe Sinister” has apparently leaked the first details for Obsidian’s upcoming RPG, Avowed. And, from the looks of it, this leak is legit as industry insider “Klobrille” has vouched for his credibility.

According to Joe Sinister, Avowed will be a fully open-world game. Its map will be “denser” and “more contrasted” at the same time than the one for Skyrim. Moreover, the game will have real-time weather and very advanced character creation tool.

Additionally, Avowed will come have a big focus on world-reactivity. Not only that, but it will have advanced lighting, as well as next-gen AI systems and physics.

What’s also great – at least for PC gamers – is that the game will support mods. This is a huge deal as modders have supported Skyrim for years.

Avowed will be fully respecting POE creatures lore with new additions, and will have dynamic presentation of dialogue. It will also have bosses, very large number of fractions, and will allow you to have companions.

Avowed was one of the most interesting new games that were announced during Microsoft’s Xbox July event. And, according to the leaker, Obsidian plans to release Avowed in late 2022/early 2023.

Below you can find all the details that Joe Sinister has shared.

Avowed First Details Leaked

  • fully open world, much much larger than Skyrim (very differently “larger”, more proper word would be “denser” and “more contrasted” at the same time)
  • primarily set in the The Living Lands region of Eora (not sure if it’ll go like that as explicit later on, but that was starting point)
  • big focus on world-reactivity, lighting and next-gen AI systems and physics (special focus on physics with magic systems – have no clue what would that mean)
  • real-time weather system (don’t have full details but fog is very important as realtime element, rivers will have specific micro physics systems regarding this)
  • very advanced character creation tool (didn’t get more info)
  • mod support (for now PC is/will be very dominant as creation tool, but I’ll be playable fully on Xbox)
  • very large number of fractions but very different approach than with Skyrim
  • you’ll be able to have companions (different than Outer Worlds)
  • storyset: fight against incoming threat of tyranny (independent from previous stories)
  • game has bosses planned and some of them are very very large
  • Gods will have special say in the game
  • great focus on iconic landmarks, statues and buildings
  • two large cities planned with many smaller ones with strong focus on contrasting wild-areas, rivers, mountains and desolated areas (yes, you’ll be able to swim)
  • fully respecting POE creatures lore with new additions
  • dynamic presentation of dialogue
  • for now idea is to keep “you can kill everyone in the game” option
  • around 100 people are on the project for 2y (smaller number for 7m of preproduction), in total 2y 7m
  • full production is already a thing
  • team will still grow
  • target date: late 2022/early 2023

    late 2022/2023?
    c`mon,c`mon…

    1. I do not count it as a game until I see actual gameplay. Besides, Microcuk could always cancel it based on past behavior.

    1. Did the same team that made outer worlds make pillars of eternity? No they didn’t alot of the pillars of eternity team left after and hence why pillars of eternity 2 didn’t do as good and the decline continued and led to outer worlds cause the team had changed sooo much they suck balls now!

    2. Yeah, but the world is changing extremely fast, these days.
Pillars of Eternity is already old, considering how fast gaming is “evolving”.

Just look at what’s happening with BLM.
Fascist liberals have recently decided to accelerate the end of the western world, and even in video games, the change has been incredibly drastic in the past 5 years. They’re taking over everything and nothing can stop them, god knows why.

At this rate, 100% of video games characters will be gay or “non-binary”? and non-white in 5 years.

I wonder in what way they’re going to announce to people that they’re deciding to build extermination camps for white straight men. I won’t even be surprised when this happens. I guess they’ll manage to convince people they’re a threat to humanity or something like this.

  2. So going by its release window, it’s gonna be build using UE5?
If the mod support for this becomes a success, somehow then the Creation Engine for Bethesda will have a hard time sustaining.

    1. Advanced character creator is just another way of saying tran knees will be present in the game.

    2. But you can probably pick the size of the penis of your “female” character, good job (thanks CDPR too)

  3. Welp, they tried to make their own “Fallout” with The Outer Worlds and failed (a game that felt from 5 years ago, it didnt improve nor add anything to the genre)
And now what is this? their try at Skyrim…hah.
These kind of games (ancient in design, imho) are dead, Bethesda is too and seems like Obsidian follows the same fate, a shame cause it used to be so good.

    1. I’d say The Outer Worlds was a solid double A venture by Obsidian. However, the team size looks bigger this time around so expecting good things!

      1. It was fine for people that wanted another experience similar to Fallout (a sandbox game mostly), it was absolute crap for those that expected something new from Obsidian…seems like they didnt improve from New Vegas days…they got worse even.

    2. exactly and the writing and characters are milennial feminist cringe with post ironic humor.

      obsidian is dead.

    3. It’s okay, we’re still the majority and the upvotes win!
And by the way, Trump is SO going to be re-elected easily, thanks to these nutjobs. ?

  4. The fact that they’re advertising it as dense and not “big empty map with nothing but padding” gives me some hope.
I expect nothing though, release date is far away and this is NuObsidian.

  5. had a full blast playing outer worlds last month (through egs) completed in 4 days all 100% & it was great it was a proper rpg with just amazing voice acting & facial animations open world exploring was great + one most imp thing atleast obsidian has the guts to make new ip with different ideas with a completely new game, avowed will be great to becasue obsidian team has some talent in making a rpg games with different ideas & differnet setting not just like ubsioft team who makes worst & likes to milking their same series over & over over…………

    1. Exactly what’s it gonna be. Did no one notice in the trailer it said something like “making heroes into queens and kings” it sounded weird and out of place, king should of come before queen like everyone else on the planet would say it. But ya know obsidian is all woke now so they gotta put queen before king. I am not buying this sh*t. outer worlds was hot garbage, you had missions where you had to travel to different planets and risk your life to get a dress and a stupid f*king cake for some lesbian and her dumb*s dinner date. The enemy variety was pathetic no matter how many planets you went to, it was always just outlaws and marauders or primals and maybe a couple of other enemie types but that’s it like 12 enemy types and your going around to at least 8 different planet’s. It was a f*king joke and the story was clearly written by r**ards. Every woman in a slave mining colony had multi colored hair(cause that makes sense) and some d*ke looking shaved sides of their head haircut. If anyone thinks this is gonna challenge bethesda and the elder scrolls games is smoking crack, cause the team that made Fallout new vegas is not the same team that obsidian is today, as a matter of fact I don’t think a single original member of the fallout new vegas team is working with obsidian today and if there are any it’s like one or two tops. People need to quit getting a hard on for certain developers, the teams change constantly from game to game so just cause some developer made a classic over 10 years ago doesn’t mean it’s the same team making a different game today.

  6. “Realtime weather” so? We’ve had that since Ultima 7, so for around 30 years.. am i supposed to be hyped up about that?
“differently larger” what the hell is that? Either it’s larger or it’s not. “more dense”? Skyrim is super dense, to the degree that it does not feel like a very realistic world. Open world games is about travel, density is not something you should expect and it’s not what we want.
Also, the title is absolutely terrible.
They sound very clueless and I *highly* doubt they even play games any more, it sure doesn’t sound like it, it sounds like boomers who are trying to figure out what “these young people like” and they took a quick peak at Skyrim. lol.

    1. The day boomers moved out of game business we lost the good games. Now games are being made by millenials and zoomers and results show truly. Simple homogenized games where its more important to look ugly and have tattoos than have unique gameplay and stories

      1. we surely don’t need the boombers who’s now not interested in games but still makes them because its all they can do. That does not make good games. i much rather have an indie from a fresh, inspired young person than a boomer who’s only in it for the money.

  7. Wonder what the thought process was behind the terrible title name?
    – “Let’s make the title sound like something you want to buy.. how about AVOID!”
    – “Great choice but we are still just on A in the dictionary after all.. Oh-oh! I see it – Avowed!”
    – “YEEAH, that’s awesome, it has kind of a “”wow!”-touch” to it! What does it mean though?”
    – “who cares, sounds cool.”

  8. I don’t trust this new Obsidian to deliver like old Obsidian did a decade ago. New Obsidian is tarnished by identity politics people who prioritize that instead of creating a good game.

If i knew New Vegas team and management was making this i would be super hyped. Now it’s just MEEEH

  9. if you plan for a SIX YEAR dev cycle from the start, how many years do you actually take? I thought the point was to strike when TES is asleep. By 2023 there will be hype for the next TES again.

  10. Get back to us when it’s a month before release and all gameplay mechanics are set in stone. At this point in time any speculation is just treading water.

    1. its means nothing. next-gen AI is something Todd from Bethesda would say too, and what you get it something very similar to Pac-Man in terms of AI.
