Larian Studios have today presented new gameplay footage of Baldur’s Gate 3. Just ahead of the D&D Live event, Game Director Swen Vincke presented the results of months of iteration and fresh gameplay, showing off some of the improvements and content additions that the team have been working on since the last gameplay presentation at PAX East 2020.
During the presentation, the stream viewers could decide which path to take – venture into the underdark or kill the hobgoblin Dror Ragzlin.
Between the original announcement a year ago, and what was shown today prior to D&D Live, Baldur’s Gate 3 is starting to take shape, and that shape will continue to evolve as Larian works directly with the community during its Early Access campaign. Some of the iterations Game Director Swen Vincke presented during the stream were the direct result of community feedback.
Baldur’s Gate 3 One Hour of Gameplay Footage
Here are some of the changes and new content shown in the Baldur’s Gate 3 gameplay stream:
- The narrator that will lead players through the game has changed to present tense/second person narration.
- Changes to the initiative system. Previous gameplay showed the side initiative, which has evolved over the past month. You can group together characters with similar individual initiative automatically, allowing the player to try out combinations and align their attack in a group initiative system. Other characters and enemies will have individual initiative
- Vincke showed the inspiration system for the first time. Inspiration points will allow the player to reroll one of their dice. This is a very valuable asset as the roll of the dice decides over life and death. Players receive these points as a reward for finding special solutions during the playthrough.
- Reactivity to the player character: During the gameplay, Vincke played as a custom character elf, which showcased how the world reacts to who you are and – more importantly – which decision you have made in the past.
Back in February, Hasbro hinted at the game coming to Early Access in 2020. And today, Larian Studios stated that it aims to launch game’s Early Access phase in August 2020.
Enjoy and stay tuned for more!

I scrolled down to see the “waaa waaaa waaa it’s not baldurs gate!” comment, but that works too.
dsog’s famous shill cuckold back at it again.
You’re upsetting the incels.
But they are right, it’s not.
not interested in divinity original sin 3. show me baldur’s gate 3 then i’ll click on their gameplay videos.
I’m glad people are starting to say this. Like what’s with the bloody turn based. The market is flooded with turn base these days.
It may be flooded but for every turn based game out there only a turn based game from Larian is good. The rest are cheap Xcom clones, and to be frank, Xcom isn’t that good either as there are far more better games, even mmos that are more feature rich.
EXACTLY… that’s the first thing i thought. Like why did they have to make the bloody game turned based. It’s now at a point where there are more turned based on the market than FPS. I use to complain about FPS saturation now it’s Turn based. C’mon man.
That’s like asking why Dice doesn’t make a third person rpg.
Turn based is their bread and butter. Its what they are good at and its what they’ll keep making.
Its called finding a market Niche and working to satisfy that niche not the entire market.
Uhmmm, Nice try. No it’s not. All the Divinity’s before were third person. Turn Base is their “LAZY”. They already have the map from the last 2 turn based games they make, hence why this sh*t looks copy and paste. And baldurs Gate was never TURN BASED. C’mon dude are you serious right now?
I was talking about Dice making third person not Larian studios.
Larian studios built their studio on the foundation of turn based gameplay.
Plus you also have to remember that this time they are working based on the instructions of the D& D company and im sure combat was the first thing that was discussed.
Yes I knew that you many Dice making TPS. I don’t know what have you the idea that I didn’t know you meant dice. You were clear as day about dice. I just don’t agree, because it’s not the same thing. Larian have been making Third person games way before they started making turn based. the original divinity games were Real time, third person games.
And before that, isometric with RTwP system 😉
It’s sad how a lot of people think that Larian didn’t exist before the Original Sin games.
RTS sucks. Long live turn based combat.
At least give us 2 options dont force us to play turn based
I don’t know about you guys but in BG1 and 2 I was pressing that space button for turn base mode all the time. I like what they are doing in BG3.
Me too! I wasn’t even a fan of pause-based system.
This is going in the right direction.
I’m not a fan of turn based, but I know many people are and that’s fine. I just wish they also had the option for real time pause because that’s what Baldur’s Gate was. Pillars of Eternity 2 had both options, I don’t see why this couldn’t as well.
Just plan your actions quicker and you’ll have a damn RTS.
boring as hell. lul
Haha roll light attack repeat estus flask
It’s awsome how much better this looks over DOS2. Facian animations as well as animations in general are much better. Hopefully the world is huge. Can’t wait to sink my time into this game with my partner.
