half-life 2 feature 2

Here is a brief gameplay clip from Arkane’s cancelled Half-Life game, Half-Life 2: Episode 4

Noclip has shared a GIF, showing some brief gameplay footage from Arkane’s cancelled Half-Life game, Half-Life 2: Episode 4. This clip showcases a WIP build of the game and in case you’re wondering, this is actually legit.

In case you weren’t aware of, Arkane worked on a Half-Life 2 game in 2007. This game was codenamed Half-Life 2: Episode Four (also known as Half-Life Return to Ravenholm). From what we know, this wouldn’t be a direct sequel to Half-Life 2: Episode 3.

As Marc Laidlaw said a while ago:

“We are big fans of Arkane and wanted to come up with a project we could work on together. We threw ideas around, they built some cool stuff, but we eventually decided that it didn’t make sense to pursue it at the time.”

My guess is that the following clip showcases some of the stuff that Arkane developed for this Half-Life 2 game. As we can see, there would be a zombie-like enemy in the game. The game would have scripted events, and the player would be able to use melee attacks.

Noclip’s documentary about Arkane will go live next week. As such, we may get more details about this cancelled Half-Life 2 game shortly. Naturally, we’ll be make sure to share any additional videos or important details.

Enjoy the GIF and stay tuned for more!

  1. The way he knocks the zombie and impales it ont hose pallets in that .gif reminds me of another Arcane game that I am surprised never got a sequel. Dark Messiah of Might and Magic.

    1. Yep, and Junction Point (Warren Spector’s studio after Deus Ex) started working on another episode too, such a bummer none of these projects saw the light of day

        1. Square Enix is not that interested in the series anymore sadly, but i hope someday, at least for the 1st one

    2. If you played DIshonored, you can tell. Both games feel the same in terms of architecture and other visuals aesthetic, same level designer AFAIK

        1. Antonov (Bulgarian) did design Dishonored 1/HL2 and the east European influence does show.

    3. I heard that 1 before. I think there was a picture or something too but never a video? This is actually really cool to finally see. Dishonored 1 gave me some serious Half-Life 2 vibes to be honest (the city)

  2. That zombie without a headcrab feels out of place on the HL universe, must be just a concept.

“Half-Life 2: Episode Four (also known as Half-Life Return to Ravenholm).”

So they where trying to cash in hard on the zombie craze from that era, makes sense how they scrapped this to focus on Left4Ded
