New Rumor: Resident Evil 4 Remake probably in development, might release in 2022

Numerous anonymous sources have disclosed to Videogameschronicle.com that a remake of Resident Evil 4 seems to be in the pipeline. Much like the last two Resident Evil games, the fourth entry is rumored to receive the full, next-gen makeover, and aims to be released in 2022.

According to the article, the primary development of the revamped Resident Evil 4 is being lead by M-Two, a studio founded by Tatsuya Minami from PlatinumGames fame. However, various internal teams from Capcom itself will likely lend a hand to the overall development process as well.

M-Two have apparently been working on the project in secret since 2018 once they received a blessing from none other than Shinji Mikami himself. Shinji Mikami is basically Capcom’s golden boy having directed classics like God Hand, Vanquish (for Platinum Games), and of course the classic Resident Evil 4 in 2005.

Sadly, he seems to be directing Ghostwire Tokyo at the moment, and thus couldn’t lead the remake himself.

This rumor is hardly surprising given that Capcom has steadily been giving out beauty treatments on its way down the Resident Evil chronology. What does make this case unique is that Resident Evil 4 has not just been released on multiple platforms, but also received an HD remaster for modern consoles.

Moreover, Resident Evil 4  is an extremely influential game, and helped to lay the groundwork for how modern, 3rd-person shooter games should play. A remake of such a fan favorite is always a big undertaking, but fortunately M-Two have experience with giving games a modern upgrade as they helped with the development of the 3rd Resident Evil remake.

As always, we would advise taking this rumour with a hearty pinch of salt as Capcom have issued no official, public confirmation that this game is in development. The leak does not mention what platforms will receive the release, but given the modus operandi of Capcom both in general and with regards to their other games, a PC port is a safe assumption.

Also, Pushsquare.com writes that Videogameschronical have shown themselves to be a reliable source for leaks lately, so watch this space!

    1. Since they got their own specialized engine now for those kind of games and not only (RE Engine) they can pump them very fast i guess. Plus it been over 15 years since the original which is the perfect timeframe for a Remake, in 2022 when RE4R releases the generation of 2005 (RE4 release year) will be ~17y

      1. While I agree that it will probably be not as grand in scope as the original I think they really should remake it. It is one of the best games of all time and would be f*cking sweet with raytracing and all the new tech that is going to be everywhere in 2022.

  1. Not a surprise, they won’t stop…all the way up to 6 (and they can’t make a worse RE 6, can’t they?)

      1. But original WC3 was great, original RE6 is a fun and dumb third person shooter in coop that shouldn’t have the RE name on it…call it The Corona Enforcers and would be fine.

      1. Instead of RE2 remake they should have done a reboot to the series, then start over with the RE engine, then they wouldn’t be hearing all this noise from “fans” complaining about remakes…

  2. I’m all for it IF they do a good job. Thankfully classic RE4 is available on digital stores, unlike RE2 & 3, so I can always go back to the original if the remake sucks.

  3. I don’t think RE4 is in desperate need of a remake, but if it’s of the same quality that REmake 1 & 2 are, I’m certainly not opposed to it.

    1. That’s why I said if the quality is as good as those other remakes. Capcom can be very hit or miss, but they’ve done good work on many entries in this series.

    2. I would actually expect a higher quality in terms of the visuals, of course it would need next-gen exclusivity(not cross-gen)

  4. Y’know Capcom, ya’ll could do with giving so much needed love to Code V and Outbreak, instead of trying to top Todd’s record of “how many times can I port skyrim?” game.

    1. For some reason it feels like they hate CVX while it has lots of potential. I doubt that they won’t work on it but probably not now since RE4 is a goldmine compared to CVX so rip.

      1. This is just the old Capcom coming back, always flip flopping back n’ forth between classic RE, and heavy gun ho action based RE.

I know what they want, and it’s not much of the former either. These remakes of 2-3 are just to keep some OG fans on board. The real focus is on the group they fostered from 4-6, as they want that crowd and money, not the OG fans. It’s been written on their wall for nearly 20 years now.

  5. Um…. I sure hope not. At least, not yet. Would be a colossally wasted chance to FINALLY give Code Veronica some attention with a proper remake.

Not sure why Capcom hates the game so much. Bad voice acting and script aside (yes, you Steve and Alfred), it’s a pretty decent story, with some good set piece events.

    1. Probably they are gonna remake the main games, while rebooting the story line (they are taking this new direction in story, like if most people care about the story of RE games) so it fits with 7 and the next 8 (i wouldn’t be surprise if they make major connections between this new 4 and 8, Remake 3 already has a major conection to 4 that ends up messing with the original 4, is all over the place now)

  7. They will obviously change Ashley skirt with jeans or pants because its not suitable for “today standard”. And If its true this remake developed since 2018,i hope there’s no cut content like RE3..plus for God sake,no nemesis/Mr X type enemy please. The original doesnt have that kind of enemy but its tense and exciting..

    1. At least this time they will actually work on it i guess instead of just porting it on anything that it has a CPU lol

  9. I love RE4. Probably my favourite action game of all time (if not my most played) — but I don’t really want or see a need to remake it.

But that’s the thing: RE4 is an action game so what resonates with me is the mechanics and the set pieces (unlike the older games where the atmosphere is a key factor in my enjoyment — and something that can be recaptured/enhanced by remaking it).

If they remake the game then they either have to change the way it plays… which makes it a different game, or keep it the same but only improve the graphics… which strikes me as kind of pointless (especially given the HD texture mod exists).

Yeah, I just don’t care for this game to be remade: it’s already on PC (and every other platform available to man) in higher resolutions and framerates.

  10. Resident evil 4 is amazing on its own, plus resident evil 3 red flag gonna cut content and ruin something more.

    1. I hope this one, because fvck that camera. That’s the reason i never fully finished that game. I really hope they will remake it with the new engine and gameplay.

  11. I wound’t mind a REmake4 as long as:

-the visuals are at least twice better than REmake3
-there’s a clear and distinctive aesthetic direction
-the story is told with grit and seriousness
-the atmosphere is dark and gloomy
-It is at least as scary as the original RE4
-they change Leon’s model,I really liked his looks in RE4

  12. Haters gonna hate but RE:4 is the best in the series and it deserves the make over no matter what anyone says.!

    1. very few people have said otherwise. people’s main concern is that they may not put as much effort into it like they did the first time and that they may not be able to top RE4.

  14. im not against this, but if i can choose i rather take a RE 1 Remake Remake with the same polish and care of the RE2, or and i Know they wont do it cause it looks like capcom hate this one a Remake of RE: Code Veronica. If we continue with this path we will see RE 5 Remake, RE 6 Remake and why not RE 7 Remake.
