Hello Games has just released a new major update for No Man’s Sky. According to the release notes, the Exo Mech Update adds a fully controllable mechanical walker. Moreover, it brings new Exocraft technologies, improvements to base building, and much more.
Going into more details, this patch adds the Minotaur Heavy Exocraft Hybrid. This walker is an all-new way to explore planets. According to the developers, this advanced mechanical walker dominates the landscape and offers unique new technologies.
The Minotaur has also a powerful jetpack that allows it to soar and slide with power and grace, bringing speed and excitement to planetary traversal. Not only that, but the Minotaur is immune to all planetary hazards and is able to directly collect valuable materials, keeping its pilot safe at all times. Furthermore, its mining laser can be upgraded to a Terrain Manipulator, allowing it to bore directly through the earth.
Players will also be able now to upgrade Exocraft with solar panels to recharge their engines during daylight. Additionally, all Exocraft equipped with the Signal Booster necessary to perform scans will now find that their scan reveals all nearby points of interest.
As always, Steam will download this patch the next time you launch its client. You can also find its complete changelog here.
Have fun!

Pretty awesome to see this game turn into something more than the shoddy product it was at launch.
Gotta give credit to the devs for sticking with this game.
Absolutely. If it would have launched like this I can only image how well it would have been received.
“Gotta give credit to the devs for sticking with this game.”
If they hadn’t have stuck with the game then it wouldn’t have continued to sell as it did. Also, not sure why should devs be credited for producing a nearly-finished game 3 and half years AFTER its full release.
Is that how low the standards are for devs these days?
Congratulations, you lied repeateadly, scammed your own customers, and made tens of millions of dollars in the process, but hey at least you stuck by your own product so you could continue to sell it.
Lmao did you even read what I said.
I never excused them of any of the sh**ty things they’ve done. Its just that many other dev’s in their position would have just abandoned the game moved on.
You tell me what’s worse: A- a dev releases a sh**ty game, makes a buttload of money from the initial launch and then abandons it leaving the owners of the game empty handed.
B- the dev realizes they made a sh**ty game and tries to make a game at least worth the cost their initial customers paid for.
All I’m saying is that at least they went with option B, when many other dev’s would have went with A.
Lmao did you even read what I said.
I never excused them of any of the terrible things they’ve done. Its just that many other dev’s in their position would have just abandoned the game moved on.
You tell me what’s worse: A- a dev releases a crappy game, makes a buttload of money from the initial launch and then abandons it leaving the owners of the game empty handed.
B- the dev realizes they made a terrible game and tries to make a game at least worth the cost their initial customers paid for.
All I’m saying is that at least they went with option B, when many other dev’s would have went with A.
Yeah that might be a sign of how awful a condition the game industry is in right now, and that’s why I was relatively speaking.
Did you read what I wrote, because I copy and pasted from your own comment. Forget that, did you even read what you wrote?
“I never excused them of any of the terrible things they’ve done.”
Nope, you glossed over it saying it was “pretty awesome” to see what had happened to it 3 and half years later. Then you said the devs should be given credit for that.
Not once did you mention how the devs lied and, given their E3 presentation alone, scammed.
“All I’m saying is that at least they went with option B, when many other dev’s would have went with A.”
So surely the answer is to pillory B more, not give credit to A.
A did bad things. B did worse things. While C, the devs who actually produced the product they promised, deserve credit – and even that’s a stretch. When was the last time you credited someone for simply doing what they are supposed to do?
Neither A nor B deserve any credit whatsoever.
“the dev realizes they made a terrible game and tries to make a game at least worth the cost their initial customers paid for.”
Except, that’s an overly simplistic argument – only taking into account the most immediate repercussions.
The dev also has interest in the game continuing to sell.
The dev also has interest in future games selling.
The dev also has interest in repairing its relationship with Sony.
The dev also has interest in repairing its now toxic repuation.
The dev also might have a smidgeon of profesional pride.
All of which add up quite the self-interest into continuing to develop the game – which also, clearly, didn’t stop them developing another game at the same time.
“Nope, you glossed over it saying it was “pretty awesome” to see what had happened to it 3 and half years later. Then you said the devs should be given credit for that.
Not once did you mention how the devs lied and, given their E3 presentation alone, scammed.”
Wait wait wait. So if I don’t explicitly call them out on every bad thing they’ve done, I can’t also mention a better thing that they’ve done?
Also, you’re conflating two things I said. I said it was awesome that the game has improved so much since launch. Obviously it’d be better if it was this good at launch but I’m saying the observable growth was awesome to see. I’m not saying the dev’s did an awesome job.
And again, I’m saying that the dev’s should be given credit for sticking with the game. Credit =/= praise. This is why I’m wondering if you read my comment correctly. You’re extrapolating so much that simply isn’t there.
“When was the last time you credited someone for simply doing what they are supposed to do?” All the time. When someone does their job, we (at least where I work) acknowledge them for it. And by acknowledge, I don’t mean some shiny medal. I mean their name is associated with the thing they did. Credit in the context I said it means “publicly acknowledge someone as a participant in the production of”. Crediting doesn’t mean they did a good job. Its an acknowledgement. Saying both option A and B deserve zero credit is the same as saying there is no difference between the two options. Obviously option B requires more effort than A. And that effort is what’s being acknowledged.
Lastly, is self-interest not reason enough to improve a game? I never suggested that the ONLY reason HG improved NMS was out of some moral compulsion. It’s almost as if having a vested interest in your game is a good thing, for both you and the customers.
“Obviously it’d be better if it was this good at launch but I’m saying the observable growth was awesome to see. I’m not saying the dev’s did an awesome job.”
Why is it awesome to see a dev trying to fix their mistakes? Why isn’t that just expected? You seem to have a problem with me calling out your exceptionally low standards which wouldn’t be tolerated in almost any other industry.
“And again, I’m saying that the dev’s should be given credit for sticking with the game.”
They should be given credit for sticking with their own product????? Jeez…they clearly have a self-interest as I detailed in my other reply. A business should be credited for doing things in their own self-interest? Lol.
“Saying both option A and B deserve zero credit is the same as saying there is no difference between the two options.”
Nope. And now you’re resorting to doing exactly what you accused me of. I explicitly stated:
“So surely the answer is to pillory B more, not give credit to A.”
Most definitely stating there WAS and IS a difference between the two. Please try actually reading and processing my comments before replying.
“I never suggested that the ONLY reason HG improved NMS was out of some moral compulsion.”
Except that was the ONLY reason you gave.
You wrote:
“Gotta give credit to the devs for sticking with this game.”
Which completely ignored the self-interest the devs had in “sticking with their game.”
See above.
“Players will also be able now to upgrade Exocraft with solar panels to recharge their engines during daylight. Additionally, all Exocraft equipped with the Signal Booster necessary to perform scans will now find that their scan reveals all nearby points of interest.”
So its the same game loop that it always was but now you make loud walking noises.
Does this game have any story at all? not interest in any games that don’t have story, even if it looks interesting
no unless your definition of story is finding cryptic texts of one sentence saying nonsense.
pass then, thanks for saving me the trouble
Be nice if they added some better gameplay. All you ever do ion this game is gather materials so that you can recharge something every 2 mins.
It tries to appeal to everyone, ends up appealing nobody (not true, maybe autists). Every big update on this game was like a meh for me, and that’s just the nature of this game..is rotten on its core.
This is one of those games I like watching a 2 minute long video highlighting a few things – but playing it myself would be boring. There seems to be a huge amount of walking and jogging.
Not knocking it, there’s something for everyone out there – but I cant help think some of these types of games would be better if there was a little more to do without having to walk or jog slowly across big territories (this goes for a lot of those open platform fps online games).
Amazing update, The new mech is great in VR ?
Now what they really need to add is a little campaign… And female chars lol
