Outriders feature

Report: None of the creatives behind the old People Can Fly games is there anymore

Square Enix revealed yesterday the co-op game that People Can Fly is currently working on. Now I’m pretty sure that most of you were disappointed after witnessing the small bits of gameplay from Outriders. However, there is an explanation behind the differences between Outriders and People Can Fly’s previous titles.

According to Adrian Chmielarz, creative director at The Astronauts, none of the creatives behind the old People Can Fly games is there anymore. This new People Can Fly is way different than the team that brought Painkiller or Bulletstorm.

In case you are wondering, Chmielarz founded People Can Fly in 2002. His team was responsible for both Painkiller and Bulletstorm. Painkiller came out in 2004. Epic Games then acquired People Can Fly in 2007, with the latter creating Bulletstorm. Chmielarz left People Can Fly and formed The Astronauts in 2012.

So yeah, this explains why Outriders is nothing like the previous games from People Can Fly.

Square Enix will reveal more gameplay footage for Outriders tomorrow, on February 13th!

  1. Yeah I was already anticipating Witchfire as the proper next shooter by the creators of Painkiller instead of whatever People Can Fly is working on.

      1. Shadow Warrior 2 managed to not be utter sh*t with loot and shoot mechanics, so not all hope is lost. Just most of it.

          1. Enemies get less spongy when you start getting good upgrades and matching them well, and you can skip the bulletspongy underpowered phase with cheatengine.

          2. game is poor piss easy, higher difficulties make them more bulletspongy.

Devs in general needs to drop action rpgs especially shooters, if you gonna put skills in games do it like far cry.

          3. I mean, IMO, shooters are more enjoyable when they are realistic, that rush you get when you pop somebody and get a clean headshot, or double tap your target and see the animation work its magic. (see Max Payne, COD MW)
I got The Division when it came out, I can never forgive myself for talking my friend into buying it so we could play together. at first, we had some fun exploring the city, it was very special, but it wore off rather quickly, then the headaches came and we would
get tired of shooting the same enemy a thousand times and running out of ammo and dying over and over and over again. where’s the fun in playing such games, unless you are too young and carefree with a lot of spare time or perhaps an adult with a lot of disposable income. these games are for people who prefer empty pleasures over a rich experience.

          4. do we really have to settle for that? I mean don’t we deserve to have real games anymore? when we juxtapose Mass Effect with a game like AC Origins, the difference is clear as day but what irks me is that the latter has been given almost the same metacritic while in fact it is not even a true RPG, and not even a real AC for that matter.

        1. Uhm… All hope is lost. Looter shooters are garbage and they will always be. Yes shadow Warrior 2 was my favorite game. But that part of it bothered the hell out of me because all that elemental b.s wasn’t needed, it’s just padding to waste my time. Looter shooters are soulless rubbish.

          1. and every game these days is one….feeling old yet? If you only knew how bad things will get….THIS FREAKING INDUSTRY.

          2. we, as consumers, are to blame to have encouraged such trends as lootboxes and ‘suprise mechanics’. the industry is just reacting and trying to appeal to the consumer’s tastes and needs.
games are not fun anymore, they feel like chores these days and the onus is on us to change that, by informing the younger generation about spending habits and the purpose of gaming.
I once gladly spent 60 dollars on a game that only lasted for 8 hours. but it was never about the money, the rationale behind it was to encourage quality products, to appreciate sutidos with professional integrity, people who did not stoop in front of CEOs to kill their creative passion and vision, it was about supporting your favourite developers’ sincere efforts to push the boundaries of what they thought would bring more joy to gamers rather than to the investors

          3. define ‘we’ !
you and I might have made the right decision but there are an extremely large number of ‘addicted’ young gamers out there who say and act otherwise. it’s sad really

          4. Oh i have an idea of how bad it will get. I’m in the process of picking up Boxing. Bought me a Bag, Stand, Wraps & Gloves. DOing it mostly to get back into shape. I’ve become lazy and a fat azz. But it’s something new i will embark on and hopefully i can fade out of gaming. Sad thing to say, but I’ve fallen out of love with gaming man. Every bloody article nowadays is about Battle Royale & Looter shooters. When COD got hot i use to complain about that. And now COD is the least of the worries. So you are right, “This FREAKING INDUSTRY”. SMH

          5. So it ever was, gaming started as Pay 2 Win, with arcade based games, industry has always been greedy f*kers.

There has never been a “Golden Age”, 99% of games have always been bad sh*t, and we all disagree on which 1% is the good sh*t.

That’s how it is, was and will be forevermore, all that matters is finding the 1% of games that you like each year, and you’ll have more good games than you can find the time to play.

The 99% you consider bad sh*t, doesn’t matter, nor should it, ignore it, and move on to your good sh*t. I’ll stick to playing my good sh*t, even if you think it stinks.

        2. Not being sh*t doesn’t mean it’s good, the 2013 was way better than the loot and shoot sh*t we got and Witchfire which could have done some neat things with it’s great art design and atmosphere is going to ruin that completely over damage numbers and collecting trash instead of having some decent pacing.

      2. The loot/shoot component some of you talk about isn’t really there, in that famous trailer that dropped a while ago, you can only see a couple of things falling on the ground after the player had killed an enemy, nothing like borderlands or similar sh*t, that stuff could be health, could be some XP collection of some sort, or something similar to souls from dark souls, it could be many different things, but you’re 100% sure it’s weapons gadgets and other sh**, well suit yourself.

  2. They should rename the studio into “People Already Fly” because the original team has fly away from the studio…

  3. The trailer was almost saying that in some manner, and there are still people on the internet hyped for this because of Bulletstorm and Painkiller…

  4. RIP People Can Fly, it was nice knowing ye. I know flying wild hog studios is also composed of ex-PCF devs as well.

  5. The original dev must have seen the shi* trailer and bad reaction of the gamers and wanted to wash hands off of it. LOL

  6. ” woke”

the trailer starts with “we awoke”

    Ehmm, in doom 2016 voice:

“WE ARE WOKE AND WITHOUT MERCY, BUT THE FINAL GAME WILL BE WORSE, PREORDER NOW, UNTIL ITS DONE”

  7. I apologise for saying this, I don’t mean to deride or disparage their effort, but the industry needs to know so let this be a lesson

  8. Yep, that explains it. Wasn’t really expecting anything good from the current PCF. However I’m eager to play Witchfire from Chmielarz’s new studio.

  9. Yeah because they’re in Witchfire studio, and you can see it from the trailers, i just hope that doesn’t turn into a looter shooter

  10. Yeah that explains it all. Nothing about this headline should surprise anyone. Pretty much all the big studios that were once celebrated are losing or have already lost a bunch of the key people that made those companies likeable in the first place.
