Modder ‘Hiems’ has released a pretty cool mod for the first Half-Life game. As its title suggests, Half-Life: Coop allows you to play the campaign of Valve’s classic shooter in co-op mode.
Contrary to other co-op mods like Svencoop or DC coop, Half-Life: Coop does not change important aspects about the game. In other words, the objective of this mod is to be compatible with the servers of Half-Life 1 and keep it as vanilla as possible. As such, this is a must-have mod for all purists Half-Life fans out there.
Half-Life: Coop version 1.0 is only 56MB in size and you can download it from here. Do note that this initial version does not contain the final boss (Nihilanth). Still, it’s worth mentioning that the modder aims to add more improvements for cooperative mode via new updates.
The modder has also released a trailer for his co-op mod that you can find below. Needless to say that it looks retro-stunning, and we are pretty sure that this is something that will please a lot of Half-Life fans. As such, we strongly suggest downloading it, especially if you haven’t re-played HL1 for a while.
Have fun everyone!

Half-Life isn’t meant to be co-op…
sven coop dissagrees
sven coop is gae.
what do you prefer, sven coop’s unique designed missions or some coop looter shooter filled with assisted mechanics and repetitive modern gameplay horshesht such as having to hold a button to open the door at the same time with both players.
Which one you prefer?
I mean, i would take sven coop over borderlands any day.
or most coop games today.
someone who finds black mesa to be a mess not faithful to the original and missing entire chapters.
Haven’t kept up on the Black Mesa project. Is it really this bad in accuracy? Missing entire chapters?
just type black mesa surface tension uncut and see for yourself, doesnt feel like the old game, the levels are heavily altered and entire chapters are missing.
The guy who made the uncut version of Surface Tension is now working with Crowbar collective, restoring and helping the team bring back the cut parts of the level, latest version of BM has a very good Surface Tension level, it went from cut and rushed to far better than the OG
You can get back the levels in steam workshop.
shouldnt they be there at release?
They were, but they decided to cut them some reason. I honestly didn’t felt any difference.
i appreciate black mesa. im waiting for xen.
I just did a couple of weeks ago. Still holds up nicely.
Black Mesa is fine but it’s a different animal.
GTA san andreas is free on rockstar games.
“As such, this is a must-have mod for or purists Half-Life fans out there.”
A Half-Life “purist”, wouldn’t touch co-op to begin with. Seriously, the entire appeal of the game, is being alone. Not mowing down everything like a juggernaut in co-op.
Of course, someone had to fistf**k this garbage in to a classic. May as well work co-op in to Atari’s “Adventure” while you’re at it.
i think i’d be fun like HL2 co-op through Synergy
Options are always nice, of course. I just found the line funny, as though “purists” would want this. 🙂
Black Mesa has been imminent for the last ten years…
SvenCoop let’s you play the HL campaign among others in Coop, and i first downloaded it in 2002, the mod itself was released in 1999
I’ll probably check it out with my son tonight, but Im thinking there’s not enough going on to warrant coop mode. I guess it could help during that one level with the little skinny ninja snipers, but not much comes to mind where you’d need another player helping out.
