Piranha Games has just announced that Mechwarrior 5: Mercenaries will be released on December 10th, exclusively on the Epic Games Store. Now I know that a lot of gamers were looking forward to this, so it will be interesting to see how they react now that the game will not be initially launch on Steam.
Like most Epic Games Store exclusives, Mechwarrior 5: Mercenaries will be timed-exclusive, meaning that it will come out on Steam a year later.
Piranha Games stated that its partnership with Epic made it possible to further optimize the game, and that the game has a greater chance of market success on the Epic Games store.
“Partnering with Epic gave us the ability to delay our release to early December so that we could make the quality of game we desired as well as the financial footing to make sure MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries could be properly localized with a significant marketing effort.
We also feel very strongly about discoverability and believe that MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries has a greater chance of market success on the Epic Games store.”
Regarding mods, Piranha Games stated that upon the game release, mod makers will be able to download the editor and everything they need to create full mods. Then early in 2020, the team will integrate the end user experience for mod makers to share their creations with the community.
Last but not least, the team stated that those looking to obtain refunds from their pre-order of any tier are able to do so by September 1st, and pre-order refunds of any tier will be refunded in full.
“Additionally, those seeking refunds will be able to keep all bonus MechWarrior Online content from the Standard, Collector and Ultimate Editions of the pre-order, which amount to $100, $180, and $300 dollars worth of in-game currency and content for MechWarrior Online including all bonus items like XP, premium time, badges, decals, cockpit items and more, depending on which pre-order tier purchased. “

= they can shove this rotten pile of sh*t deep in their a**, greedy scums
Yep.
What a weird time in gaming. This should’ve been a time to celebrate the launching of a long awaited game. Instead, game devs are ready to roll out refunds and brace themselves for the negative backlash.
Thanks a lot, Tim!
God f*king damnit!!!
Not very surprised considering this is Piranha
If it is really good, then I will buy it on Steam.
they’re willing to cull their fan base over this… d*ck move, I’ll ensure the surprise investment of obtaining the scene release caries through.
Jordan Weisman has always been willing to piss his entire audience off. First it was Microsoft and FASA interactive which ended in disaster – a total screwup of the franchise and 75+ books and 20 years of TTG lore, games, sourcbeooks, etc when the rights changed hands to WizKids. Then WizKids screwed the pooch again and it went to CGL again before he finally got the rights back.
And now the first move since is to KickStart a new expansion to the TTG – something they could easily have afforded on their own – and make MechWarrior 5, the first title in 15 years, epic exclusive.
GTFO forever Jordan.
Another swing and a miss.
Battletech die-hard since 1994 here. That’s the last straw.
Such mental deficiency. Steam doesn’t HAVE ANY MECH GAMES. What does it have? Heavy Gear Assault? Heavy Gear was NEVER a competitor to MechWarrior, not in the early 90s and not now, not to mention it’s a poorly reviewed game and has no story mode.
MechWarrior Online? An online only game by the same developer that’s free********
Hawken? Again, no.
Battletech turn based? Basically the same game but turn based roguelike instead of first person shooter roguelike.
a die hard battletech fan that doesn’t like HBS battletech game? let me just LMAO.
Every day that goes by makes me less and less reticent to second-guess my decision to just flat out stop buying video games and playing video games.
Greedy publisers= Bad Games.
Can someone tell to Epic they are pissing off the big community of gamers? at least me
This guy is really a pathetic person. He thinks he will win it ppsssss
How? I don’t know that he is thinking but for sure I will ever buy nothing from Epic’s Store.
So the developers gonna lose too
Refund time. I was looking forward to this too. Oh well, Epic claims another victim. I will never give that cancer store a dime.
It’s hilarious that they actually believe MW5 will do better on EGS than on Steam. But whatever, both MW5 and Piranha Games will get a permanent spot on my blacklist. I’m so tired of these idiots making up nonsense for accepting Epic’s bag of money.
